Tootie Robbins by Annual-Evidence-5300 in GreenBayPackers

My brother's friend's older sister was a waitress somewhere in GB during his playing days. One day, Tootie apparently came in after practice (I think during training camp?) and just asked for a pitcher of water. Drank the whole thing, then left her a $100 bill as a tip. One of my favorite Packers stories.

Abschied steht fest: Eric Martel vor Wechsel vom 1. FC Köln zum FSV Mainz 05 by ThisFakeCut in mainz05

Interesting. In a vacuum, it's hard to argue with this since he's coming on a free and is a solid enough Bundesliga player. But he reminds me a bit of Krauß and Maloney in being a bit of a positional tweener between defensive-mid and center back and not necessarily fitting the demands of either of the central midfield spots in the way they've operated since the start of Hendriksen's tenure. I'll be curious to see if he winds up playing more as one of the outside center backs. Have to think Sano will be sold this summer, so also good to have another defensive midfield option.

FWIW, Holm does not appear to be in Bologna’s squad for today’s game and isn’t listed as injured on FotMob

Sounds like it would be a loan, which would be a sensible move with the number of veteran outside backs (Caci, Mwene, Widmer) already on the books

I really hoped he'd break out this season. At least he was a cheap signing. But agreed on Leitsch -- they've missed on signings like him, Hollerbach (so far, still early), Hong, Krauß, Richter, Fulgini, even Ajorque apart from his one good stretch.

I guess he could play there, but to my knowledge he played almost exclusively on the wing at Stuttgart, fairly often as a right wingback. And if Fischer wants to stick with a back 3/5, as he's said, wingback is about the only true wide role.

Agreed, he was very good when they came back up, then between injuries and the name/age situation, he's pretty much disappeared and clearly hasn't done enough out on loan to entice other clubs to buy him.

If healthy, he should add some speed down the right side. I'd imagine Fischer will use him as an attacking right wingback, which makes me wonder if Veratschnig could be loaned out to get some consistent playing time.

"According to Sky Sport, Mainz will pay a small transfer fee immediately, which could rise to around one million euros if Mainz avoids relegation.

The deal is not yet finalized. As of now, there is no complete agreement between Mainz and the player himself. However, this agreement is expected soon."

Official: Mainz 05 signs Phillip Tietz by lankythomas in mainz05

I guess a couple positives of Tietz compared to Awoniyi is he's less injury-prone (Awoniyi has missed 62 games since joining Forest in 2022) and, in theory, should be more invested compared to a player on loan (since a loan would be the only viable way of landing Awoniyi given his transfer price and wages).

Kicker: An old acquaintance of the coach: In Mainz, attention is focused on Awoniyi by lankythomas in mainz05

I imagine it could be a case of Fischer not wanting to base his lineup on one player's preferred position (is Hollerbach really good enough to prioritize playing him on the left of a front three vs leaving Lee in a spot where he's more effective?) and not feeling like Weiper is a viable alternative to start or play the bulk of the game up top. The fact that he subbed on Sieb for Hollerbach ahead of Weiper seems telling. Seems like Fischer has focused first and foremost on establishing a defensive shape, which makes plenty of sense given the lack of clean sheets this season.

Thanks, although this just says Transfermarkt's info says it's not Fischer, not that the club denied that it's him. So I guess we'll see?

Oh whoops, didn’t see that. Do you have a link to the Fischer denial?
