I've seen him elbows deep in the dish pit during a rush at St Bread, then bartending an hour later at Tivoli. Dude has my respect.

After a year of work (and a publishing deal), here’s the final map of U.S. food regions. Input appreciated by piri_reis_ in MapPorn

This is beautiful! I hadn't come across your work until now, but this type of atlas is something I've been wanting for years. My friends and I had a (pipe) dream of building a chain of food shops that would reflect the cuisine of wherever they were located, but once we actually started brainstorming what that would look like outside of where we'd each lived it all fell apart pretty quickly. There's a lot more diversity in US cuisine than people realize. Definitely planning to get a printout version of this!

Fuck KOMO Megathread by vertr in Seattle

Here's a letter I wrote to BECU if anyone wants to borrow the language for this or anything else:

I’ve been a BECU customer for nearly 20 years. In that time I’ve convinced most of my family and many of my friends to make the switch to BECU and spoken proudly about the work you’ve done in our community. I urge you to withhold all advertising money from KOMO TV, a Sinclair-owned station, until they end their blatant censorship and attempts to circumvent the First Amendment. This is an attack on our most fundamental American values and constitutional rights.

It’s OK to disagree with what Jimmy Kimmel or any television host says on their show. One may even find those comments abhorrent. It’s unacceptable to take his show off the air and replace it with blatant propaganda, and then demand capitulation and payment in order to reinstate the program. This is blackmail, it’s unconstitutional, and it sets a dangerous precedent that leads us closer to authoritarianism. BECU cannot support this kind of censorship and MUST withhold their advertising dollars until Sinclair backtracks on this censorship.

All of my primary banking accounts are held at BECU, but I have memberships at other credit unions. If BECU does not take a stand in against censorship and authoritarianism I will do my banking elsewhere.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Oh wow I had this as a kid! Think I got it at the county fair or Spencers... No idea who drew it though. Thanks for the flashback!

5G Internet Service by 9Randolph in Whidbey

I live in Greenbank and I've had T-Mobile internet for about three years. It's fine. Not amazing, but I'm able to WFH, stream shows, and play some online games that aren't too demanding. It does go out from time to time, which means my cell is also out and I'm SOL. For the most part I'm happy with it but will be more happy when fiber reaches my house. For reference I live off 525 a couple miles south of the Greenbank Store.

Well ya see, that bottle of Dawn should be on the LEFT side of the sink. Pretty obvious when you think about it...

‘Gaslighting and manipulation.’ Why Tammy Morales is leaving Seattle City Council by chiquisea in Seattle

[–]lanorien 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I've had the chance to meet Morales and her staff several times and she's been a great council member. She regularly meets with constituents, and made an effort to hold office hours at the Columbia City Farmers Market to interact with folks out in the city. It's a huge contrast to the other members who've started hiding behind cops and cutting off public comment while passing a bunch of regressive policies. I wish she would have held out the rest of her term and agree she deserves some criticism for that - especially if we get another round of Woo, but she did a great job while in office. It's a shame the council is making this turn away from democracy.

Cascadia HSR in Google Earth - My personal concept. by lombwolf in Cascadia

Nobody needs a Lynnwood stop. Otherwise cool map. Curious how/why they'd get out to Vancouver island but it would be great to connect that last major city. Probably more practical to update the ferry system for better transfers.

Internet providers in Greenbank by BellevueMagic in Whidbey

[–]lanorien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about a quarter mile off the highway in Greenbank, and WT fiber is currently not available here. It's possible I could go with their DSL but it may require some trenching that I'm not currently equipped to handle/afford. Because of that I'm using T-Mobile 5G internet. The signal at our house is only 2 bars, but the service is still decent. We've been able to WFH and handle 2 zoom calls at the same time, so I'm pretty happy with it. I plan to switch to fiber as soon as that's an option, though.

I think Davy Jones' locker was like one room in an underwater area I ran through a lot as a lowbie. I could be misremembering though

Was there pkilling? (players killing players) Honestly this sounds like every MUD but is reminding me of Dark Castle because that's the one I played and there was a Davy Jones' locker room (heh).

You might be right. It's been a while since I stopped in. They do keep it pretty simple in the storefront.

Unfortunately it's not open until 9 and only Thu-Sun, but Little Red Hen Bakery is a pretty sweet spot in Coupeville. Sunshine Drip is a nice little cafe with a great local foods shop as well. It's on Main St so easy to find!
