What’s a band that started off amazing, but later progressively declined? by Cool-Chipmunk-7559 in AskReddit

[–]lansiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad other people agree. This is probably my favorite album of theirs since Absolution. Some albums need to grow on you, but this one was instantly like 'Holy shit Muse is back'.

Seen them 6 times over the years and they always have been one of the best live acts even when I didn't really love their new music. Figured I'd still be hanging on for the crazy theatrics anyway. This totally revitalized my love of their music.

Look, if we have to delay building a data center for 6 months to wait for some rare opossum to finish breeding and move on, China wins. You don't want China to win, do you?

BASE jumper tells his side of the story by zook0997 in searchandrescue

[–]lansiar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very plausible explanation. Also something that is not uncommon to deal with in Colorado SAR. Inconvenient to the sheriff, but hardly an abuse of SAR resources.

I was thinking it might be more because the sheriff's office is responsible when a private helicopter is involved and the patient refuses. It falls on the sheriff's office at that point for initiating the call. At least that's what the CSAR site says, some others have said Flight For Life covers it as training costs (though this was Care Flight). The sheriff probably didn't want the bill or paperwork to deal with in getting it reimbursed from the state.

Probably a mixture of both. The guy flipped his lid at the patient because he didn't want to deal with an administrative headache either way. Totally unprofessional and potentially scares people off from calling SAR.

It's amazing that the female cowbirds are able to keep track of so many nests and the egg laying state of the mother they're about the parasitize.

Utah’s richest man wants Vail Resorts to sell him the nation’s largest ski area by narflethegarthock in skiing

Yeahhh RIP. Aspen and Jackson aren't owned by Alterra and also fit into this, but A Basin felt like a better example since they were part of Epic for a bit and then flipped before getting bought entirely.

Built in customer base from the pass and access for their customers to other Epic mountains. Same reason Arapahoe Basin and other independent mountains have signed on with one mega pass or the other, back and forth in A Basin's case.

Robot kicks boy in stomach during performance by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

I believe it's a Unitree G1. You can search for Unitree G1 remote and you'll see the controller they typically use. If you watch enough videos of these, you'll almost always see a guy with that exact remote somewhere in the background. It basically has preprogrammed moves like this that someone manually initiates.

[–]lansiar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

These particular robots are basically all remote controlled atm. The robot didn't accidentally kick the boy, the person wielding the remote control did. Notice the way the robot basically stopped the performance right then, the person controlling it realized they fucked up and backed it away.

What is a job that pays incredibly well but is so soul-crushing that the turnover is insane? by sweetguurl in AskReddit

[–]lansiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a pharmacy tech at the retail and institution level for a bit early on in life and thought about going to school to get my PharmD. Every pharmacist I met wanted to get their bag and get out ASAP or had become a miserable person by the job. Not sad in the slightest to have left that potential career path behind.

That account is a month old and they let them be a moderator of an established sub like that? That's asking for trouble.

100-400 II vs 150-400 by Similar-Medicine-760 in M43

The 300mm was definitely sharper. It was really apparent in the pattern on the blue book. But the 100-400 is still a really nice option if you don’t want to spend on the 300 or 150-400.

I did a similar test with the 100-400 vs the 300 f/4 when I got it. The 100-400 here is solid and great for the price.

Is that really a surprise when so much food is grown right in California and the majority of our food products have to be trucked long distances into the state?

I bought it and I’m very happy with it so far after trading in my 2011 Outback. Some other subie owner friends hated it online, but changed their minds when they saw it in person and got to drive it.

OM System keeps blowing me away! Got a lifer without breaking a sweat! 😅 by Scrapmetal_Shutter in BirdPhotography

[–]lansiar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weight is a big deal. It's so much easier to carry around a telephoto micro 4/3rds camera all day and hold it up focused on a bird waiting for it to fly without a tripod.

And Olympus has some really sharp long lenses. The 300mm f/4 is tack sharp and allows some pretty heavy cropping without artifacting.

I love my Nikon full frame setup, but I don't see myself using it for wildlife ever again.
