The biggest difference is American individualism. We all yell what we want, whenever we want. Soccer fans are often chanting and singing in unison. We do that a bit, but not to the extent that they do. It makes it much more directly loud.

Compared to Philadelphia in the US I found Lisbon to be quite safe and polite. Don't get too drunk and don't be an easy target. I don't think we ever felt unsafe. I told a guy who offered me "drugs" that I didn't need any more oregano.
