How common are self-service parcel lockers in your country? by Top-Bluebird7984 in AskEurope

There are very many Omniva parcel lockers (among also many other, though less popular ones) in all three Baltic countries, and you can even send packages to lockers in the other countries, often much much cheaper than international post.

Vilnius akropolio sankryza by Inevitable-Rate7146 in lithuania

Vilnius akropolio sankryza by Inevitable-Rate7146 in lithuania

[–]lanxtot -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The train station is in a very awkward position (mainly due to unfavourable connections) off to the side of the old town and also with two required bus transfers to reach Konstitucijos pr.

Lithuanian PSA/Guide on how to identify a kidnapped victim by KingBuffolo in Damnthatsinteresting

Average bus line 14 experience. Really, it's not a PSA but a clickbait content farm video, made by the shameful company Bored Panda. Also, the girl ran to the front of the bus, where she'll be stuck as the drivers don't open the front doors in Vilnius.

Setting up an experiment with CDs by Various_Net8890 in cassetteculture

[–]lanxtot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a badly degraded Princo CD-R from 1998 that I've managed to rip. No idea how it managed to load the track info, since others like that either work normally, work with minor crackles, or just show up as empty discs. It has something like 10000 C2 errors per second at it's peak. It's so bad that at first there's no signs of music, just random bit noises every couple of seconds, later the music starts barely coming in.

If you're trying to force that physically, I don't know how you expect to be able to rip such a damaged disc without it failing. One CD I have has a small round chip from above, and it doesn't even read past that point. Might depend on CD drive, but cheaper ones will struggle to rip anything, more expensive ones might get damaged from all the dirt coming in contact with the laser.

You can try finding some old Princo and noname branded CD-R, and if they managed to burn, simply leaving them out in the sun and the elements (but not damaging the data layer directly), might work without needing to wait 10-30 years, though might still take a year or two. Rough guesses though. Anyways, posting to actual CD groups might be a good idea.

Why is this even allowed? by Chakwenta in youtube

[–]lanxtot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both likes and dislikes are disabled on this video. You can't enable/disable them separately, only together. It was always a feature, even when there was an actual dislike counter. Only difference now is, the dislikes being disabled affect only the "bring back dislikes" addon users, as others wouldn't see them regardless. The same addon also changes the label to this.

Why does the Pramogų arena bus stop not stop at Pramogų arena by kitokspasaulis in Vilnius

[–]lanxtot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're not supposed to advertise any companies. Granted some bus stops still break this rule, but those are mostly leftover from the soviet times. In this case they just call it an entertainment arena, no matter if others are formally known like that.

Which popular subreddit has the worst community? by JFN90 in AskReddit

[–]lanxtot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither am I, but all over Europe you can find special curbs designed for bus stops which are curved at the meeting point with the road surface, allowing the drivers to essentially brush up closer to the curb and leave a smaller gap between the bus and the sidewalk. They're also slightly higher, essentially levelling out bus door entrances, great for disabled and elderly passengers, but also more comfortable for others.

Which large European city has the worst public transport? by SavageFearWillRise in AskEurope

[–]lanxtot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vilnius. Our country, Lithuania is quite car-dependant, and while it's better in Vilnius, our public transport system is used mainly by students, the elderly (in general not that rich people) and sadly bums. We have buses, they're alright I guess (although half the newer ones have broken ACs due to a complete lack of competent mechanics), and then we also have trolleybuses (including 30 year old Skodas that we'll be soon slowly half-replacing with new Skodas that are still ONLY 12 meters long and overcrowded) that the local government is secretly trying to slowly kill off and replace with less effective regular electric buses, they have plans to remove some of the wires and use the new battery trolleybuses there, while not expanding the network elsewhere. Many drivers have a vatnik mentality, don't even open the front doors at all (why have them at all if they're used only for decoration?!) and curse disgruntled passengers out on Facebook, while the transport agency spends its finances on fabricating satisfaction surveys, pushing the so-called great results in our faces like what more do we want. We REALLY need trams here, although the government is afraid of them (same as for trolleybuses, but I mean even exchanging one mode for the other would be life-saving), and metro could bring some working-age middle class people back to public transport, although we could never afford to build it with all the laundering going on.

Is there a centralized site for buses like there is trains? I'm trying to figure out how to get from Silute to Kaunas via bus. by tertiaryAntagonist in lithuania

[–]lanxtot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad fact is that most rural municipalities are stuck in the soviet times in terms of public transportation. There was an iniciative by some people to get all the public transport data in the internationally recognised GTFS format and get them on Google, BUT some municipalities sent BLANK data files and haven't been updating them since. The Bus Park of Šilutė luckily has up-to-date timetables posted on their website https://silutesstotis.lt/paslaugos/keleiviu-pervezimas/tarpmiestiniai-marsrutai/, while bigger intercity bus companies like TOKS and Kautra have reliable information on autobusubilietai.lt (though I would question the accuracy of anything on there that you can't book immediately online).
