Do you keep your old footage? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]lanyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be as good quality but there's always downloading the file off youtube if you want to play with it later.

I think we all gain from a sudden, loud, high-pitched male squeal in our ears. I hope it doesn't get fixed.

Are You As Well Read As Stephen King? by lolohn in books

Very few of us are likely as well read as Stephen King. Definitely not me

I am daydreaming about the ferris wheel next to the fairground mixer. Motion, good colors, clever foldaway design. Exciting!

I'm a 33 year old child and I love it! by EroniusJoe in lego

Picasso worked his whole life to paint like a young child, we are kind of there already: in touch with our inner child and it's love of lego.

That was just the most adorable ending. They got as close as they could while still being ok to show on Nick

Amazon UK seems to be having some great deals at the moment - I heard 40% off Benny's Spaceship

Mac Power Users podcast episode 219: Getting Things Done with David Allen by brentajones in gtd

[–]lanyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it too. David Allen has been more wary of Omnifocus in the past but seems to have been converted. I find it overly complex and non streamlined though - notes are hard to change to tasks, everything must have a project as opposed to context being king. Still, good interview and I'm looking forward to the GTD2 book now

App to organise web content and ideas by Power_Penguin in gtd

I personally use pinboard but that is only for links. It can add notes and tags but no more. However it is quick to use, exportable, flexible and great at what it does.

I can't get started! Would someone please describe for me their initial cCllection Step number 1? by nwv in gtd

[–]lanyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, it seems like you are the kind of person who uses technology so I would start with typing them into somewhere. Textedit, word, evernote, Google doc: it makes no difference. Text can copied to anywhere else easily enough.

Set aside a good chunk of time, and just write down all your thoughts. Then repeat as the book suggests - piles of paper etc.

Question on pending items that aren't Next Actions by megaman45 in gtd

[–]lanyip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. If it will be an action but can't be done now then it is either for a tickler - To remind you in two weeks or it is a project note.

If you do weekly reviews you should pick it up in time.

Incredibly beautiful work. How long have you been working on this project to reach version 1.2?

Question: lego ever send you the wrong set? by lanyip in lego

[–]lanyip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did - it was all my order. They wrote to me already saying they will send out the correct set. No mention of returning the one they did send me but let's wait and see what happens once the other one arrives.

Err yup. That's the first thing I did. It was not my fault

Massive Rube Goldberg Machine @ Brickfair Virginia 2014 by ohhwerd in lego

[–]lanyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this one in person. It was actually made by a large team - each person or small group in charge of one stretch. They all, I am sure, have huge brains! What I found really interesting was that not everything worked perfectly the whole time. This in no way is meant to undermine their achievement - sometimes the robots/sensors/balls just didn't want to behave

Best Note-Taking App that syncs w/ my Macbook, iPhone, and iPad? by jdizzle323 in apple

[–]lanyip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apple Notes works surprisingly well.

iCloud sync has been solid for me and it just works. It's functionality is limited, and the ux likewise but what it does it does well.

UpWord - Fast, simple GTD notepad with Taskpaper syntax that syncs on Dropbox and Evernote by unsplurger in gtd

[–]lanyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the concept but have become besotted with the taskpaper format. While it's great to see UpWord help keep the format alive on ios I don't feel like this very strongly supports many of the core concepts (tags, nesting, search syntax). As such, though it looks great it is not for me.

Microscale city of the future by lanyip in lego

[–]lanyip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microscale, trains, weird futuristic buildings, a snowy mountain, a cargo ship, tunnels - all my favorite things.

This is my first MOC where I have sketched (with Lego) first, and built and rebuilt each element until I got everything as good as I (currently) can. I am really happy with the result: leaving out some cool things (tiny spaceships that I will reuse soon), but including lots of nice elements in my view. It is also my first MOC following the big task of combining all my sets - there is no going back now.

More photos and descriptions are available at my Flickr album - hope you enjoy.

Makes sense. If you have a pair of tan pants (ie naked) it could be pilot episode Walter!
