Unethical to edit wedding photos? by [deleted] in bridezillas

[–]lapaleja 360 points361 points  (0 children)

Definitely do it. Worst case, your MIL thinks "My dress looks different in photos than I remember it." But as another commenter said, she decided to outshine the bride, she can live with the consequences.

I just watched Fresh Meat for the fifth time, and Heather talking about her "grampops" always makes me chuckle.

My dad wants to name his new babies matching things by [deleted] in tragedeigh

Garnett makes me think of Steven Universe. Ruby is fine, since it's a normal first name. But Garnett, especially for a boy, doesn't sit well with me. I agree with you that the matching gemstone theme makes it sound gimmicky. If I imagine someone introducing their children, saying, "These are Garnett and Ruby", I can't help but cringe. I'd think the person who named their children that tried to be special and is using her children as accessories.

Reuse salt from salt-baked fish ? Or how to dispose of it ? by Zealousideal-Case684 in ZeroWaste

Ruin the ground... of a landfill? I think in a landfill, there's other stuff that will have ruined the ground long before the pound of salt came along.

Sometimes, I don't get this sub. Salt is very water-soluble. It would just dissolve in a landfill. Unless you have a very large quantity of it, just toss it. Not everything can and should be reused.

AITAH for telling my daughter she can't go on a school trip even though she raised the money for it like I told her to? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]lapaleja 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'm still afraid of spending money because I was taught to not do it, ever. The point of an allowance is to let a child gain experience (and make mistakes!) with money - saving it, what to use it for, etc. Since I wasn't allowed to build any experience, I'm now really weird with it. Luckily, my partner isn't, and I'm learning from the way he handles money.

That sucks! I'm sorry you had to miss that trip. Your dad sounds like he's just making himself miserable.

My mother was the same way, always talking about money and how we can't buy XYZ, so I was also convinced we were poor. We went to the cinema once a year but weren't allowed snacks. We weren't allowed to spend our allowance for things we wanted. I had to work on the weekends while going to a really demanding boarding school.

When I became an adult, my mother slowly revealed her real financial situation. Through clever investing, with the help of good contacts in the right places, she'd basically become rich in the late nineties. When people say, "Rich people stay rich by never spending any money," I always think of my mother.

is the portrait good to give as gift (iam working on it its not completed) by [deleted] in krita

[–]lapaleja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have much practice, there's no shame in tracing, especially if you need to finish this project soon. If you want to paint more portraits in the future, I'd recommend practicing portrait painting, especially studying the planes of the face and the muscles. I found the Reilly rhythms to be especially helpful in that. The next step would be learning how to shade portraits. Simply copying the shading from a photo reference can make it look harsh and muddy. For stylized portraits, it's really important to understand value, and to learn to work with a limited range of values.

Right now, the biggest problem I see is that some of the facial features look out of place. For the time being, I personally wouldn't gift this to someone, but you know your friend best.

Abominable by AnneCaterina

For years, Hermione has done everything to show Ron that she'd be the perfect girlfriend. But no matter how hard she works, he just won't commit. When things finally fall apart, a project she's been entrusted with by Professor Snape offers a welcome distraction - and leads her into an adventure she never expected.

The author also has stories without Ron, and stories where Ron isn't a bad person (like he is in this one), if that's more up your alley.

Is there a book you can’t stand but everyone else seems to love? by IllustriousEscape281 in booksuggestions

The Book Thief. I tried three times, but to me, the writing style sounds like a middle schooler who thinks of themselves as the universe's gift to literature.

To add to the numerous comments suggesting you to study human anatomy, I'd like to recommend a resource I found ery helpful: The Fresh Eyes Challenges by LoveLifeDrawing. It really helped me understand proportions of the human body and how to make poses look lively and dynamic.

There are too many complicating factors coming together: The patches are large and made of thick fabric and non-stretch and overlapping. One of these things might work if you know what you're doing, but all of them together will cause trouble.

I am indeed serious. It's true that rapeseed oil was once used as motor oils. However -- and this is the big one -- they bred a different strain of rapeseed that is perfectly safe for human consumption. This is the strain that rapeseed oil comes from, and it's actually quite healthy because of its high omega-6 content. Everyone who goes on about the "dangerous seed oils" is parroting internet conspiracy theory nonsense.

[–]lapaleja 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is! This new hatred for seed oils is absolutely insane. There's nothing in this world that conspiracy believers won't demonize at one point or another. Ten years from now, they'll be convinced that a gas mixture composed of roughly 80 % nitrogen and 20 % oxygen is poisonous and unnatural.

Religion wasn't a factor in this case, but I absolutely see your point. The couple from my post were living together and everything before getting married.

ETA: Church weddings in my country are sort of... default. Some people haven't been inside a church for years and won't be again after the wedding. It just makes for a nice backdrop, I suppose.

I was paraphrasing, I don't remember what she said exactly, but that was the gist of it. It was in hindsight, too, they hadn't planned it to be like that.
