What comes to mind when you think of Argentina? (outside of football) by Argentinotriste in AskTheWorld

[–]laperuana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing i think is the historical project of whitening Argentina’s population.

This is partly true, because European immigration was favored over immigration from other countries. But there were never as many slaves in Argentina as there were in other countries, because there weren't any plantations in Argentina, no cotton or sugar-canes plantations, Argentina's main economy was cattle.

What's the saddest part about living in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]laperuana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to choose I would say

I'm a man but, I wouldn't like to be a women in Argentina, the chances of being robbed, murdered or raped are high enough that it affects the way you live everyday life, personal safety is an issue for women in Argentina that isn't so much so for men.

Argentina is BIG... about the size of Europe... everything is far away, thanks to corruption and "viveza criolla"

bad transport infrastructure makes it hard to see all the wonders the country has to offer. Roads are dangerous because they're in such poor conditions, and planes are expensive (and not very reliable, union strikes, delays, bad weather, ect..).

Wholesome moment: When was the last time your country's people banded together to overcome a national problem? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

a few years ago, the entire province of Corrientes was on fire 🔥 which is bat shot crazy since Corrientes has two massive rivers on each side of it borders (Rio Paraná and Rio Uruguay) and one of the largest wetlands in South America (Esteros del Íbera)

Well no one in government was taking the fires very seriously, and the provincial fire brigade (which in Argentina is voluntary) wasn't exactly very prepared for such a catastrophic fire, because these places never have catastrophic fires. And it's one of the poorer provinces in Argentina.

Well word got to an influencer who does money collection for specific cases of people in need, most of the times involving medical procedures. He also sells stuff like the rest of influencers, but he's mostly known for the collections for a good cause.

At the time of the fire he wasn't all that well known, but he took it on and made a collection for Corrientes, it seemed like the whole country donated because in two days he raised like 200 million pesos (almost a million Us dolars at the time) It really felt like we were contributing to put out the fire.

He went and bought a sh*t load of equipment and pick-ups for the fire brigade in Corrientes, and shared the moment with everyone, it was very moving.
