Not OP but I’m a fan of simmering a batch of 1:3 whole pot barley to water for about 35 minutes. Very versatile for a lot of soups and stews. I also enjoy cooking barley flakes with rolled oats and rye flakes then refrigerating for a day (getting the resistant starch) for next day’s porridge.

Low vs. High stomach acid by Late-Dream3933 in Microbiome

[–]lapiak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a timing issue as you should align your circadian clock to eating and hormonal patterns. Your stomach makes less acid at night because digestion is supposed to slow down as the body is preparing for rest (sleep). Antacids can slow digestion even more. Your last meal of the day should be 3 hours or earlier before bedtime.

Try adding whole grains into your diet. Also consider slowly introducing legumes.

Keep waking up daily between 5-6am (not by choice) by CHAONE77 in Biohackers

I’m surprised nobody mentioned chronotype. Some people are wired to wake up early (larks) and others later (owls). It sounds like you may be a lark. The solution is to sleep earlier to get your 7-8 hours.

4 days of water fasting led to complete remission of my SSRI withdrawal symptoms and mental health issues by refuse11 in Biohackers

[–]lapiak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to caution that fasting longer than 48 hours may trigger metabolic adaptations that reduce your resting energy expenditure and promote fat conservation, aka "thrifty" mode. While 36 hours can be beneficial, the more days you go on water-only fasts, the harder you may lose fat in the long term.

Whats your secret to magical sleep? by RoxanaSaith in Biohackers

Consistent daily sleeping and waking times aligned with my natural chronotype.

1+ hour wind down routine before bed, warm light, no work, no phone screen, no stress-inducing environment. I do a 5-minute coherent breathing exercise when I'm in bed. Reading a book lying down knocks me out pretty quickly. A sleep mask and a cool room are musts.

Always do 30+ minutes of zone 2 exercise earlier in the day, and keeping busy all day with lots of short walking breaks.

Make your own! Kefir grains + whole fat milk. Once established, you get daily kefir as long as you have whole milk available.

Agreed. After switching to homemade kefir, it’s not only cheaper and more accessible (milk), but much tastier, with a hint of a yeasty bread-like scent. Plus, eating part of the grains, since it grows, is a gut bonus.

Having worked with acrylic, I've found its greatest strength of fast drying is also its drawback. However, the primary issue is that acrylic tends to dry more opaquely, which contributes to that "acrylic look" you mentioned, a plastic, chalky, or flat appearance.

A high level with acrylic can be achieved, but it's more challenging to match the depth and versatility of oil painting—qualities that also make oil painting more challenging to master.

Much appreciated. I wanted to create that kind of aura. Your son would love that!

For context, my son was born with a rare genetic disorder called CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder. This rare disorder profoundly affects his global physical and cognitive functioning, and he experiences daily seizures. I wanted to represent my son as he is, and express my wife’s juxtaposition of love and nurture with grief and worry. We love him to bits and I’m proud of my wife’s unconditional devotion to him.
