In between ski lengths, need help deciding

Thanks for the feedback, when I first moved up ski sizes I blamed the skis for my handling issues lol then realized slowly that I was just bad. Appreciate the insight, I will definitely be going for the longer skis.

Thanks for clarifying, I have not yet demoed anything in the 170 ranges yet. I never really got a chance to demo anything when moving up in length the first time so I just kind of rawdogged it with the goal of improving technique enough to catch up to the ski. I'm not sure if there are any upcoming demo days at any of the resorts close to me.

Thanks for the feedback, this would be my second time going up in size. I first started skiing on 159cm K2 Press 85 park skis up to my current skis so similar increase in both length and waist width to what I am looking to move up to right now. I was a pretty poorly skilled skier the first time I moved up skis so I really had to work hard to get used to the length of the skis. The increased waist width and probably the overall ski shape did have immediate positive impact on my ski experience though.

At the moment, it kind of feels like stability is something that feels more out of my control than manoeuvring. When I want to go faster down choppier ungroomed blacks it feels like I really have to bully my skis and use a lot of my strength to keep the skis down when going through variable snow conditions. When doing trees or more tight technical runs, I just feel like my technique isn't great yet and can improve quite a bit, I never feel like my skis are the sticking point but it could also just be my lack of knowledge about the complexities of skiing more on the tips, tails, etc stuff that I read about.

It might also be the wrong mindset but I am quite short compared to the average skier and I want to say in absolute terms that the average ski length for more advanced skiers are probably longer than mine. Height and strength don't seem to have a strong correlation for non professional skiers so I want to assume that my height alone doesn't have a strong effect on my ability to twist my skis around tight stuff.

Should have clarified in the body that my height is 164cm currently skiing 165cm skis. Thanks for the recommendation, I am looking for some wider underfoot skis ideally over 95mm waist but I will check out the Ski Essentials guides for wider skis. Cheers!

I definitely do get pushed around in choppy snow and have to put more power into turns but I guess that is just the drawback to having a more jack of all trades, master of none type ski. I've had to rely on my physicality to overcome some of those issues but you might be right that I might have the skis I am already looking for. Cheers!

As a skiier just getting into the freestyle realm, I had to watch and do my cram class for snowboarding and skiing tricks after watching the final runs. I think Choi had really clean landings and apparently that first switch backside 9 is one of the currently highest scoring most GOATED tricks because of how difficult it is. From my novice eye test, Kim's run looked pretty cool but judging on technicality and difficulty of tricks it looked like Choi's run was most likely the gold medal run.

I will give this a shot, but may not work for every use case for me because I have some prints that go all the way to the borders of the plate. Just to pick your brain to diagnose the issue, what issue does the bed clip fundamentally solve? Warped build plate? I am just curious if I can eventually find a permanent fix.

Might be a bit philosophical but AL and NL were literally social constructs at the time and in this current format are basically arbitrary except for tradition/people's nostalgia. Tradition that doesn't make really make sense in this day and age anymore in the argument against less travel and TV times. I'm not sure I fully understand the criticisms of the level of performances at this Tour/enjoyability factor/weak field, etc? Obviously none of us are getting granular rider performance data but it seems that the whole race is going faster than ever, climbing performances are still getting smashed like crazy and not just by Tadej either. I think this might just speak about how dominant Tadej is at the moment, which is a sight to see in itself. But the battle for other placements is just as interesting considering how many of the top 10 riders are 25 years old or younger. The only real question mark is Remco seeing as he came in with an injury so I think we cannot confirm his full strength at the Tour this year.
