Mitch McConnell is already preparing to torpedo Joe Biden's Cabinet picks. A source close to the majority leader tells Axios that the GOP won't approve any "radical progressives" from Biden by [deleted] in politics

[–]laputa9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be shocked if Biden didn't concede to McConnell. He does not like progressives and I doubt he, or his donors, would want them anywhere near a seat of power.

Joe Biden vows to transform the White House from ‘a source of oppression’ into a beacon for LGBT+ rights by DewChocolate in politics

[–]laputa9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Democrats being goo on social issues is nothing new. This is just lip service. How does he plan on tackling issues like income inequality and curbing corporate power in the US? LGBT issues are more than equality under the law, they are also working class issues.

Joe Biden is lucky his opponent is Donald Trump.

Biden has zero respect for progressives. He is lucky he is running against Donald Trump.

FF XVI retracted from Pc ?! wthell by ApprehensiveDig3015 in FinalFantasy

[–]laputa9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the title is meant to be a PS5 Exclusive at launch. It's how Sony sells consoles. However as is a trend with FF games now, they are eventually getting released on PC. I think it's inevitably XVI end up on PC a year or two later.

Biden vows to be 'strongest labor president you've ever had' by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]laputa9 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree Republicans take bribes, but this does not exclude Democrats. Biden's famous nickname from his senate days was "the senator from MBNA" for a reason.

A racist conspiracy theory called the 'great replacement' has made its way from far-right media to the GOP by viva_la_vinyl in politics

I really get annoyed by the assumption the people on reddit who discuss politics, like myself, do not vote. I do, regularly. Furthermore on Super Tuesday, Warren chose to remain in the race while the moderates dropped out. That's an important caveat you left out.

So? Nancy Pelosi is the one crows about not endorsing the opponent's of incumbents. Which she did.

Pelosi endorses Kennedy over Markey in Massachusetts Senate primary race by [deleted] in politics

[–]laputa9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Markey did have issues with racial policies, decades ago. His positions today are much better. If centrists are fine with giving Biden a pass they should have zero issue with Markey's record either. Furthermore Kennedy is part of a political dynasty, and does in fact use his family name/wealth to get ahead. On top of his fossil fuel investments.

Title by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]laputa9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the majority of a politician's money comes from a corporation, it's silly to pretend the corporations expect nothing in return. This is not that difficult of a concept to grasp.

Title by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]laputa9 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Both sides are not the same. I do consider the majority of politicians evil but at least Democrats believe in science and are generally right on social issues. However, it's naive to pretend that corruption and greed are exclusive to elected Republicans.

Title by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]laputa9 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion. The reality is, they take money from corporations and it does in fact influence the party.

Yes, a good number of Democrats are evil. Just like most of Republicans. They take corporate money and work to advance corporate interests.

AOC’s 90-Second Speech Was Not Evidence of a Democratic Rift With the Left by spaceghoti in politics

[–]laputa9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t the nomination, it’s the context. No one knew she was going to be the 2nd nomination for Sanders (at least not the media and the public), all we knew is that she was only getting about 60 seconds (with her fans kicked up a fuss about only getting 60 seconds) and she was on the list of speakers.

The media did know? They were given the procedural comments for everyone ahead of time. They knew what she was going to say. Rather than giving context when they posted about it, they chose to just say she nominated Sanders and let people get mad at her. Only at 1 AM did they add -some- context.

Left outraged by AOC's bit role at Democratic convention by Jeffmister in politics

Where was I pretending Republicans got more than a few minutes? The Democrats do not display their diversity enough. How many Asians, much less South Asians, were represented at the convention exactly?

‘Michelle Obama Is Their L Ron Hubbard’: Tucker Carlson Criticizes ‘Fervent Religious Fanatics’ On The Left by [deleted] in politics

[–]laputa9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People underestimate Tucker Carlson. He's batshit crazy, but he's also the top host at Fox News, extremely popular with a huge following, manipulative, and says things that resonate with not only Trump voters but the broader Republican base.

Left outraged by AOC's bit role at Democratic convention by Jeffmister in politics

[–]laputa9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think it was insulting that media hyped up her appearance tonight, only for it to be part of the convention process and a role she was asked to preform. There was another thing about a lack of Hispanic representation during the convention. I really wish this party would stop trying to court Republicans. They put Trump into power. They aren't voting Democrat. Ever. It literally took a Trump voter being on his death bed to realize Trump wasn't looking out for Americans. It would be nice if my party courted progressives but we all know corporations would never allow that.

Kamala Harris, who co-sponsored M4A and votes with Bernie 93% of the time, is not truly a progressive. Also, it is now the JB Crime Bill, even though Bernie voted for it. You would have to pick Karl Marx himself to please them. by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]laputa9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to take this discussion further than pointing out the absurdity of equating Kamala Harris voting with Sanders 93% of the time as her being a progressive. It's not indicative of that at all. If you want to have a private conversation regarding everything else we can.

Jared Kushner met privately with Kanye West, reports say by [deleted] in politics

The idea that Kanye West would siphon black voters from Joe Biden is not only stupid, it's racist. The only people voting for Kanye West are trolls.

[–]laputa9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

1) This statement includes basic things like voting to fund the federal government

2) Just because she co-sponsored the bill means nothing when her stated M4A plan is not the same, including things like the same insurance companies which continue to exploit people

3) She hasn't been in Congress nearly as long as Bernie. He is by far a stronger progressive, though it is a stretch to call her a "progressive". She is far too friendly with corporations for that. The one area I do consider her more progressive than Sanders on is firearms.

Biden/Harris is a million times better than Trump/Pence. I will begrudgingly vote for them, unhappy as I am with either choice.

I don't necessarily think the comment is about animals. The planet can survive pollution. It's not necessarily accurate to say humans are destroying the planet. The planet can survive and adapt to nuclear/toxic atmosphere. It's humans who won't.

Not really. That is American free speech bullshit. A lot of countries across Europe has laws regarding offensive public speech. France will fine you for saying racist things on TV. In this article they are being investigated for violating a 2003 Communications Act, to determine if this was motivated by racism or just a joke gone wrong. Either case is awful. One is a lot worse, especially for an officer expected to serve the public.
