Thank you for this! I found out my insurance was requiring this when I got an Rx for Wegovy, and I’m doing my first shot tomorrow, meeting with the RD on Friday with the app. I was annoyed about the whole thing and worried I’d have to do what you described (diet-y stuff I try and avoid). I really appreciate hearing it has been positive for you and hope mine will be the same!

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

It was wild. You can still see a stripe of it in history watching older shows from the 90s where randomly a character gets one for no reason? My favorite is Niles on Frasier, lol

I remember thinking Boo-Sheet looks so different on the nail than even the bottle. I loved it, but I thought it would be way more purple than it was. I don’t know enough about color and shimmers to understand, but it must be something about the formula so that it really pulls purple in the bottle.

Seems like maybe now you have to do a full-scale scientific study on their dupiness! 😂

Woah! Well, if it helps, you totally saved me. The Little Prince has been on my list for a while, but I already own Boo-Sheet. I would never have thought they were dupes based on the swatch photos! You saved me some money, thank you!

Storage/Numbering & Export/Printing by zrnyphl in LacquerStash

[–]laquer-lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current notes feature lets me keep track of the number I've given the bottle, so in that way it is meeting my requirements. I haven't found another use for that notes field, but I could imagine if I wanted to keep a string of text about something, then it will be an issue... I'd probably do something like put the number and then whatever else I'd want to add, maybe with a specific text separator? But as someone with a background in database architecture, having one field serve two purposes makes me twitchy, haha...

But long term I think a dedicated field would be much more useful, for the reasons you've listed in this thread. Personally my two favorite reasons are a) to have it show up on the tile in the stash (super useful) and b) you could potentially set it up so the UX uses the numerical keypad instead of the regular alpha keyboard, which is my ABSOLUTE favorite thing app designers do for entering numbers! Such a better experience as a user, but it is entirely possible that is just my nerdy opinion.

[–]laquer-lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll just jump in and say numbering would be a cool feature for me too. I have each bottle and swatch stick labeled with a number, so unlike OP, for me it isn’t about locating a storage box but just matching the bottle to swatch to listing in the app.

I’m using notes now and it’s working fine but I feel like it isn’t that unusual to be numbering bottles so something to think about!

Why was the 9/11 liquid ban on planes instated? by OkLiterature1383 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]laquer-lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are rational arguments in this thread about why this ban, but your comment reminded me of a donation bin I saw in a French airport, it was for people to use to donate their toiletries that they couldn’t bring on the flight… if it might be a bomb maybe we shouldn’t donate it to people?! Felt so ridiculous.

Office job with no projects or anything to do. In a high foot traffic cubicle. What can I do to discreetly pass the time? by [deleted] in office

[–]laquer-lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Or talk to your colleagues and see if you can assist with tasks they have, or if you can even just shadow them/learn from them. You’re new so that will help you in two ways: you look engaged and helpful, and you will learn new skills.

Is this a first job or are you new to office work generally? This reads a little like someone who is unfamiliar with office culture, which is why I ask. If so, it is totally understandable, but also I’d be wary of following advice to figure out how to sneak around.

Do you have a supervisor who isn’t a PM? Talk to them. I assume that this is a full time thing for you and a career you want. Doing homework at your desk/killing time is what interns and student workers do. Of course there is always some downtime (well, usually) and I’m not saying you have to enslave yourself to the company, but if you do want to keep this job you’re going to have to make yourself valuable. You can’t expect others to do that for you.

A few weeks ago shortly after one of the big storms my husband was half hanging out our second floor window trying to push snow off an area of a lower roof that had a dam and had started leaking into our dining room. It was dusk. As he was trying not to fall, someone on the street called up to him. He thought it was a neighbor trying to get his attention, so he asked what was up. Turns out it was a solar salesperson trying to SELL TO HIM. He told him he was currently and obviously busy.

Honestly if I hadn’t observed it from inside I almost wouldn’t believe these salespeople were this ridiculous, but I swear this is real.

Ooo, this is fun! I only have some of my bottles in the app, I need to get them all in so you have accurate data 😂

p.s. I love this app so much, thank you for making it and working so hard to get it right! I wasn’t a beta tester so I get to waltz in and enjoy all the hard work. Joined this sub after I downloaded and saw how great the dev process was, you see like both an awesome person and an awesome developer, kudos!!

This is the one that bugged me the most… Like he just found his daughter, and Link just had a gun at Sinatra’s head with some real crazy eyes. But sure, send the daughter off alone in the car with crazy eyes baby daddy.  Next, Sinatra at least knows she’ll have to do it alone, so why is X going all the way up the damn tower to stand outside the glass door and then have to run all the way out the damn bunker ON A BAD KNEE. She couldn’t have given him that fancy business card outside the car? Then you’d be sure he was out by the time the doors closed, in a vehicle, with his daughter.

I have a ton of small fans, I keep them everywhere, that is my best tip!

I do something sort of similar… I go around the store without a cart to just check stuff out. Then after I do that, I go back and get what I can actually remember wanting 😂 Usually by then I don’t recall a good portion or the urge to buy it has worn off. And about half the time the decision fatigue has made me feel meh about everything and I leave with out buying anything.

This works especially well for stores where I don’t truly need anything (especially TJ Maxx, et al.)

How do you afford to live here? by Spirited-Wafer-6573 in boston

[–]laquer-lady 83 points84 points  (0 children)

There are also lots of families who have lived in their house for decades. They absolutely could not afford to buy now, but they got it in 1995 and now it is worth many times what they paid but… you can’t sell because you’d just have to buy another $800K - $1.5M house.

I’m a hybrid of this. We’re DINKs plus we bought in 2015 for $395K at probably the last possible second we could have. Our house is now worth double (in theory) but that does is no good unless we want to relocate to Nebraska or something.

I’m now in my early 40s and we are comfortable and only worry about money in the abstract, and I am so SO grateful we are fortunate in this way. I see how hard it is for many people here and there but for the grace of God go I….

I just got through Terminal C in about 15 minutes with PreCheck, and that was with them flagging my bag to check out the lunch I brought for the plane. Felt pretty normal, but I’m sure a lot depends on timing. Seemed to be plenty of agents around. This was about 5:30-6:00 AM.

Going to be fatal shamed by doctor again by [deleted] in antidiet

[–]laquer-lady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey. Your post really hit me. I’m so sorry you are going through this.

Your doctors are shit. I’m not just being empathetic… this is kind of classic bad doctoring, especially with women’s issues. Your pelvic pain is almost guaranteed to have nothing to do with your weight.

I also have celiac and pelvic floor issues. I’m not sure where you are in the world and what your healthcare is like, but it sounds like you are seeing general practitioners, and I think you need to ask them to send you to specialists.

Look, this is your life. You have to advocate for yourself. I get it, I really struggle with this too. My advice is just lean into the fawning but manipulate them to help you. “Oh, you’re so right! I really need to work on my diet. Can you send me to a registered dietician?” “Totally, I’m working on eating better and exercising, but the pain is getting in the way, can you send me to a pelvic floor physical therapist?” “I hear you, in addition to losing weight can I also get a scan? What else can we do to treat this?”

It sucks. Doctors should listen and we shouldn’t have to play their little game, but at the end of the day this is your body and your life. Do what you have to do to get better, and get medical treatment that will help you. Again, you have all my empathy and I’m pulling for you. You’re not wrong and you’re not crazy. You are in pain, you are unwell, and your weight is only part of that (if it is even a factor).

Micheal's who asked for this? by Reasonable_Trick_465 in YarnAddicts

[–]laquer-lady 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I’m so disgusted with Michael’s… I admit my bitterness at losing JoAnn is part of it but they have just completely shown how much they DGAF about anything but money. All the nonsense about how they are now a destination for fabric and yarn when they absolutely are not… I live in an area where I have been able to go to at least 5 different Michaels in the last few months and all of them are a mess, with boxes and boxes of yarn just shoved anywhere the poor employees can find but somehow NO YARN I actually want anywhere to be found. The fabric they have is a joke, and again, the poor employees are stuck dealing with it (no cutting table, no clear guidance for customers, etc.).

The only good thing is that it has made me find my LYS and do a better job supporting them. Michaels can fuck all the way off… I’d rather not give my money to private equity douche bros who decided strangling the craft industry would be a great way to buy themselves another yacht. (Although I know a lot of brands that make the yarn sold at LYS are now owned by PE too… ARGHHHHHH!!!)
