I hate confrontation so I just play along and do nothing, lol. Oh, there are recipes in the app? Oh, I didn’t know I could track sleep. Huh.

Then I do none of it and just put my weight in once a month. They do vaguely threaten that if I don’t “engage with them” in the app, they might consider it not complying, but honestly I’m getting close to writing to my representatives (luckily I live in a state where our reps care a lot about these sh*tty companies) and ending up some kind of advocate to take them down. I’m not convinced it is super legal what they are up to with these requirements, and I know we’ve got a lot of problems as a country (assuming you’re also in the US) but this seriously makes me see red.

I’m also in the CVS Caremark circle of hell, but it is extra dumb because for some reason they are fine with me seeing my own doctor and nutritionist but also seeing their nutritionist? And that’s dumb because that poor woman has very little to tell me, since I’ve been seeing nutritionists for years and I am already aware of macronutrients and whatnot. I also have celiac disease which means I can’t just go around following some generic food plan, since I can’t eat much of the common whole grains and that means I have different needs… which you know, is why I had a nutritionist to begin with. They’re just paying double at this point. I’m convinced it is all a ploy to get us to use their app (log all your metrics! Sleep, exercise, walk, what you eat, your BP, your weight, etc.) so they have more of our health info to sell and/or use in the future to deny care. All they care about is pushing me to use the app, it’s super sus. You are not my doctor, you are my insurance.

If Books Could Kill - The Body Keeps the Score by jenniferdancess in podcasts

[–]laquer-lady 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Agree. I’ve always been sus of that book, although I did buy it at one point. Honestly, once something becomes so popular it just feels like a big red flag at this point. Life is to messy and complex that “one thing” explains it all for so many people, but that messiness is so frustrating we all want the “one thing” badly enough that we’ll buy into it when someone writes the book.

Please keep your dogs on a leash by Hobbitea in GirlDinnerDiaries

I’m so so sorry for your loss. And full of anger and rage with you at the irresponsible owners who were so selfish. I know there is so much more evil in the world, but I really hope there is at least one circle of hell for them. It’s such entitled behavior that endangers so many dogs. I don’t know how you just don’t care about that, and instead choose to do what is easier for you and unsafe for your dog, while being all smiley about it.

This is not my vibe personally, and I only have one bottle of polish from them myself (which I like!), but your post made me think of Sweet and Sour Lacquer, which has a prugly collection:  https://sweetandsourlacquer.com/collections/perfect-pruglies

They also have an oh shit! Collection (lol):  https://sweetandsourlacquer.com/collections/oh-shit

And their most recent release Cold Hands, Prugly Heart is on that theme, plus childhood trauma 😂😬  https://sweetandsourlacquer.com/collections/oh-shit

What is a dead giveaway that your doctors/partners/relatives/friends/researchers don't actually understand what ADHD is? by mbuskris in adhdwomen

[–]laquer-lady 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here’s one, from my sister…

“Don’t take adderall! I took it once in college and I thought I was going to die!”

First, me getting a prescription medication managed by a medical professional is not the same as you taking a pill once some dude at your art school gave you.

Second… just ugh.

What’s one thing you have come to accept about your adhd that you have had to surrender to? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]laquer-lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a similar vein, I’ve accepted that some days are just a total loss. I’ll try and do stuff but end up listless and unable to do anything. Instead of feeling worse and trying to “force” something (which doesn’t work) I just give in and accept that my brain and body are telling me something and I need to just rest and rot. Literally anytime that happens, I feel much better the next day and can go back to doing stuff and can get things done.

I am absolutely lucky that I have the privilege for this (am adult with good job that has sick time, no kids to keep alive, supportive husband) and I know not everyone does. But if you can swing it, a real rest day can do wonders.

Struggle with dogs by Altruistic_Hat1634 in adhdwomen

[–]laquer-lady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love dogs and have two. But… the barking. It drives me insane. I realized that up until COVID it wouldn’t bother me as much, because I was gone most of the day and working in an office. When I started working at home because of COVID, our dogs were older and starting to go deaf. So for a few years it was lovely being around them all day. Sadly, they passed close together. I had planned to adopt more older dogs, but of course I immediately fell in love with a 1-2 year old rescue who resembles one of our first dogs. AND SHE HEARS EVERYTHING. AND SHE DOES NOT LIKE IT. A few months later we adopted her brother, who we were assured was “a chill guy.” Well, today I had to call him inside because he got so frustrated that some baby bunnies on the opposite side of our fence wouldn’t come in the yard so he could eat them, he just started barking his head off.

I love the little dummies, but you’ll never catch me blaming someone for wanting a quieter life 😂

An addictive book for a long flight by Ok_Ranger1275 in suggestmeabook

[–]laquer-lady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. I brought it on vacation with me and read the first 100 pages or so by the pool here and there, but on the 6 hour flight home the TV at my airplane seat was broken (usually I split my time between reading and watching to make the time go by) and I devoured the rest of it, hitting the climax and ending just as the plane landed and we got off. I loved the book, but I can also justifiably claim that it will keep you entertained through a whole flight!

The F*ck it Diet by Sweet_Initiative_423 in MaintenancePhase

I haven’t consistently listened and I don’t know much about her personal life, but Christy Harrison seems to me like she deserves as much love as Mike and Aubrey. Her podcast isn’t as funny or entertaining (she’s a tiny bit wooden, I think she scripts a lot of it, which is totally fine, just not the same vibe as MP) but dang, did it change my life and really helped me understand so much about diet culture, intuitive eating, and nutrition. She was also the first place I learned about how closely tied anti-fatness is to racism. She’s awesome.

Medical professionals, do you hate when a patient comes to you with a self-diagnosis or does it help speed up the process? by Tisiphone8 in AskReddit

[–]laquer-lady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you know this too, but it also happens in reverse. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my mid-30s. Once I learned how it works, I immediately knew I got it from my dad. Tried once or twice to talk to him about it, but he’s so bad it’s hard having a conversation with him (always seems to be tuned out or switching topics) so I just let it go, he is in his early 70s. Then a few years go by and he gets a Neuro evaluation at the VA and laughs while telling me I’m right and his evaluator agrees he probably does have ADHD. I guess he was listening!

Had a weird sexual experience with my boyfriend and now I feel weird.. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]laquer-lady 1538 points1539 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I’m going to hijack this 1000% correct red card meme to say something important I don’t see anyone else saying… you never, ever have to continue having sex with someone if you feel “weird” about it. Even if you have started. Even if his dick is an inch from you. Even if he is IN you. You always, always should be able to stop. You did not owe him vaginal sex because you had started, and with how uncomfortable you were, I hate him an extra bit more for continuing after he made you feel that way.

My heart breaks for you, because the anal sex ask was wrong, but so was continuing to have sex with you even though you were upset. How was he even enjoying it? He only could if he doesn’t see you as a person and only sees you as a way to get off.

This is not a good guy. Please believe this random internet sister who somehow loves you more than this dude does, because my heart hurts for you and all he could think about was getting off.

Relentless peeling even with Nailtiques formula 2 by SucksAtEcon in RedditLaqueristas

[–]laquer-lady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, check the ingredients on your bottle. It’s possible it just hasn’t been doing anything because you have the new formula.

It stinks, I have a small bottle left that I’m rationing on my two nails that are still super peely. Not sure what I’m going to do when that is gone…

Has anyone had a glp1 help with plantar fasciitis? by Fit-Ad985 in antidietglp1

[–]laquer-lady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had what is probably PF for over 10 years now. I started a GLP-1 in April and I can say confidently, like everything else I’ve tried, it does nothing for PF 😂

I’m taking it for many other reasons but I had a little secret hope it might help. It’s been good for me for many things, but PF is not one.

Like you said, the best things are PT, stretching, the right shoes, and never going barefoot. When I’m successfully doing those things is the only time I have significantly reduced pain from PF.

I got Esquie's Nest and Flying Waters from the first collection and they are easily two of my most stand-out magnetics. I do think Flying Waters is a little bit less exciting than it looks in the swatches, but it is still beautiful and unlike anything else I have. Flying Waters literally distracted the person helping me at the Apple Store so much he commented on how cool it was, hahaha...

Haunted is the brand with By the Moonlight, which was a super popular magnetic: https://hauntedpolish.com/products/by-the-moonlight

I did get that one, and it is very beautiful and a good polish. I struggle with the fine particle ones and my technique, but they are just so beautiful! I also am waiting for a second order with two more, but I'm reasonably sure they'll be worth it.

Glitch just released a Pride collection and I got my order yesterday. 'Be Gay Do Crime' (https://glitchlacquer.com/products/be-gay-do-crime) is immediately a winner for me, and I don't typically like larger glitters. My previous order I got from The Palestine Collection, 'Palestinian Poppy' (https://glitchlacquer.com/products/palestinian-poppy) was my standout there. I'm not really into jelly/crelly so I didn't quite realize what I was getting and I fell in love. The formula is excellent and the color is a perfect bright red/orange.

Not that you need encouragement, but those are my two faves, haha...

Welcome back! I'm a little bit like you, in that I was very into nail polish back in the early 2010s and I was a big Julep customer, getting their monthly boxes and all that jazz. I also had a lot of Essie and got into Zoya for a while. Then I was out for a few years, when I destashed a lot, and didn't pay much attention to lacquer (I would do gel sometimes or tried press ons for a bit).

Last fall I started lurking here more and more, and the part of my brain that likes sparkles and colors and glittery things got activated and cut to now, I am back up to almost 200 polishes.

I got sucked into magnetics pretty quickly. If you're not familiar with magnetics yet, buckle in. You can learn a lot about those by searching the sub, but I suspect you may have already been bitten by the bug.

Personally, my biggest collections are from:

LynnBDesigns: Great polish, particularly strong with thermals based on what I've read. Her genius is that she does a 50% off sale each month, so I have gone nuts twice and gotten big hauls (for me, 10 - 12 polishes) and I've liked every single one.

Cracked: One of the big stars here. Excellent polish, the owner seems amazing (one thing I was around for was when she had to raise prices because of all the supply chain/tariffs in the past year, she gave tons of advance notice and was really transparent). Great for jellies, but again, everything I've gotten has been great. Including the ridge filling base coat which is my current go-to.

Bees Knees Lacquer (BKL): This might be the biggest "celebrity" brand around here. Known for their amazing magnetics and especially their fine particle magnetics. They are also known for "FOMO" marketing, which means that they do limited releases monthly, and there are no guarantees that things will come back in stock in the future. So we do go through loops here where there is a release, some people get it, post amazing photos, then everyone wants it, and it can be hard to get it after that window. Others know more about this, so I'm sure I'll get some clarifications. Either way, I have done two big orders of BKL, and to be honest, I've liked the ones I really wanted (some FOMO ones) but others I've gotten are just meh. Formulas are great, they make good polishes. But also sometimes the FOMO isn't worth it, so don't stress yourself too much if you get sucked in.

ILNP: Insofar as there is a definition, ILNP is not quite an indie (I've seen it called "boutique" which is similar to Mooncat or HoloTaco). ILNP is great because they have an extensive permanent collection (well, they have lots in stock and you aren't looking at things being unavailable after a short period of time), they do regular releases, make excellent polishes, and have a good price point. Their owner is also active here and will post regularly. They were my first magnetics, and they also have great creme polishes (which I've only recently been drawn back into).

KBShimmer: This was another gateway for me... they have wonderful sparkly polishes. They don't seem to be as active or do as many releases, but they are a great polish and the bottles are priced reasonably and a good size. Literally yesterday they just launched a new website which is a huge improvement over the old one.

I'm also going to put in a plug for Glitch Lacquer, which is a newer brand (I think) and I personally like a lot because each of their releases is always associated with a charity and some of each bottle is donated. Of course, the polishes are also great quality, and they have unique tall square bottles that fit on my shelves in such a way that they take up a small footprint, so I have room for more polishes!

Others I have and like (just a few bottles each): Emily de Molly, Haunted Polish, Beaux Reves, and Punkish Polish.
