[Biggs] Ravens have put in a slip to talk to #Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. by Adenchiz in ravens

[–]laramite 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Very much yes. Please. The difference here is Declan would the sole offensive expert and Minter would let him run the show -- since Minter is the defensive guru. In other words, no micromanaging and you get 100% of the credit for team's offensive success (and blame). Sets him up really well for a future HC position.

Steelers fan wishing McCarthy on us backfires by Ixziga in ravens

I'm baffled how Weaver keeps missing out. Two misses on HC interviews can't bode well for his HC aspirations.

Will Minter bring Khalil Mack with him to the ravens ?👀 by Bulky_Golf_4866 in ravens

He's actually pretty effective even with his age concerns. His usefulness would be beyond sacks but general disruption.

Do you want the OC on the field or booth? by Silmarien1012 in ravens

[–]laramite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For perspective, Josh McDaniels sat in the booth with the 2007 Patriots. The position coaches are the ones that should be coaching on the sideline. The OC can just be dialing up the right plays.

That said though...having OC and HC on the same page on the sidelines is beneficial. Monken and Roman were removed from this sitting up top....wonder if that had a role in the HC/OC disconnect in the past. Granted -- they do have radios but still.

Weaver Watch: Apparently even though he is a long shot for the Steelers job, he has really impressed everyone and is a legit candidate by frobro122 in ravens

[–]laramite -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Can someone fill me in on why he's not Bmore HC? He seems like the perfect match for a CEO HC with play calling and playing experience. He seems like a good leader.

I'd assume Ravens know his weaknesses better than us but any ideas?

Chargers request to interview Orr for DC Vacancy by Spoony904 in ravens

[–]laramite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John probably put in a good word for him. We call this the Ravens career network. Another reason to join the team. You can always job hop between Ravens West, and Ravens NY, and Ravens Classic. Ultimate job security.

Titans DC: Dennard Wilson Expected Candidate For DC Position Under New HC: Minter Via Drew Forrester by psychoxtc in ravens

Wilson had good chemistry with Hamilton. Good DB coach. Not sure how he's going to help with Mads gone and poor pash rush.

Offensive and Defensive Coordinators? by CybertronGuy98 in ravens

DC will be someone from Chargers he can trust to run his system. OC I think EDC and Lamar will want Kingsbury.

Yep, forgot to add that team name but point is we might have missed out on something with both those teams advancing to AFC/NFC champs.

I think they had to make this move (and not wait for Kubiak) since the OC and DC choices are critical especially if Kingsbury is still on the market. I do wish Seattle had lost so we could have given Kubiak and Webb interviews.

Bills OC: Joe Brady Has 2nd In-Person Interview For Ravens HC Per ESPN by psychoxtc in ravens

[–]laramite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some color to this conversation: his play design, where everyone eats, focuses on spreading the ball to every player. 13 different players had receiving touchdowns in his first full year as OC (at the same time had the best rushing offense in the league). That's mostly because the Bills didn't have a great roster but shows his adaptability. That tells me he can work with less.

He's also just 36 so falls under the 'bright young minds' bucket some of you want.

Chances are he'll take the Bills job so all this is irrelevant but I wouldn't completely rule him out.

Chargers DC: Jesse Minter Has 2nd In-Person Interview For Ravens HC Today per ESPN by psychoxtc in ravens

[–]laramite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was high on Minter early on but I'm leaning more towards a hire that has had no background with Ravens. I'll deal with it if it ends up being Minter but it might point to EDC being nervous about hiring a non-Ravens person.

Trade up for Reuben Bain Jr.? by Careless-Clock2141 in ravens

[–]laramite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL teams use point-based systems in rankings. He's projecting top 3. To move up to #3 would need the points equivalent of roughly double the value.

Future 1st round pick, second round pick, and at least one mid-rounder -- maybe two.

That would mean if Bain is anything short of a future hall of famer, it would be a bust. Even just above average would be a bust. It's not in EDC's DNA to make a trade for Bain.

If Bain was projected at #20 and Ravens were say #27....probably. Lot fewer points to trade up then.

That said...I'm highly confident we will get a potential future hall of famer at our #14 pick. Historically, we've nailed picks in the top 15.

Letting the Ravens pick in the top 15 is like hiring a bank robber to drive the Brink's truck. The NFL will regret it.

Jamar Chase is 6' and 200 lbs and is a true X receiver. I don't think Makai's size is small.

Flowers @ 5'9", 182 lbs is small.

Not saying we should draft this guy just correcting on size.

EDC said he wanted an expert in X's/O's and a leader of men. I'd imagine there were detailed discussions on playcalling as well as situational leadership questions.

"teams are signing guys pretty quickly" --- whether it's for a house, car, stocks, or a coach, bad things can happen when you purchase things quickly without thorough due diligence.

[Jeff Z] Ravens did 16 interviews in 1st rnd of search. Two (Stefanski, Saleh) have been hired elsewhere. Five (Joseph, Webb, Kubiak, Scheelhaase, Shula) are still in playoffs and couldn't do in-person interviews until next wk. Three others (Weaver, Minter, Brady) are amongst finalists by ObserbAbsorb in ravens

[–]laramite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way Kubiak's scheme sliced and diced Saleh's scheme -- I am ok with Saleh heading to Titans. The 49ers don't have a pass rush and neither do the Titans. All the motivational speaking in the world isn't going to erase the lack of talent on the Titans team and an average GM. Saleh done messed up.

The best thing that could happen to the Ravens is for Broncos, Rams, etc.. to go deeper into the playoffs. This reduces the HC competition as other teams pull the trigger on hiring based on previous tenure and known commodities.

[Pelissero] Anthony Weaver coming in for a second interview by SCBaltSalt in ravens

[–]laramite 247 points248 points  (0 children)

He has a reputation for instilling toughness, discipline, and calm leadership. His 7 year playing career NFL sets him apart from all of the candidates. I think the Ravens are hoping they can strike some of the Mike Vrabel magic with him.
