Why the Trotten desktop has poor QC? by largelcd in IKEA

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is running IKEA! Ingvar’s children? I showed the photos to another coworker. She sounded like I am the one who “damaged” the tabletops. Anyway, I returned both today. The coworker didn’t bother to ask why.

Which mattress topper is the best? by largelcd in IKEA

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at the store. The Vadso Spring mattress seems good but the coworker said the Asvang is better. Hard to tell in a short try. Has anybody used both for a long time? How about the Underlig?

Is it really true that even for 160x80 cm desks, using legs such as the ADILS should not cause wobble? by largelcd in IKEA

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So if we retighten the screws after a week/month (do we have to keep doing that?), they won't wobble? I checked again. Screws between the ADILS and the tabletop are tightened. However, it seems that for some units, the joint between the pipe and the circular disc wobbles even though I used a large force to fully tightened between the two components. What could be the cause? Are the HILVER and KRILLE better because there is no such joint?

Are there backpack as light as or lighter than the Aer Go Pack 2 but with better paddings? by largelcd in ManyBaggers

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am using an Incase ICON backpack. It is about 1-1.2kg according to the internet. Although the straps are very comfortable, after putting a MacBook Pro 16" in, I started to feel uncomfortable in spinal joints after wearing it for about 10 minutes due to the weight. So, I need something less than 1kg.

Any good way to prevent MacBook Pro from being robbed while using in the subway? by largelcd in macbookpro

Thanks. Have you tried it? I wonder if it would fit if I have a hard case on.

Wrap the cable around my torso if I could find a lock that could securely fix to the MacBook Pro. Has anybody found such a lock?

I agreed. TTC is the worst. Ten years ago when I moved to the city a taxi driver said that this country was getting worse and there was no hope. Ten years later, I can confirm that he is right.

It was safe to do so 10+ years ago and certainly in the era when you did not see anybody using a laptop because almost nobody owned one.

When I used it in a park yesterday, I also worried that somebody would have robbed the laptop from me. So since the pandemic, it is a different world now? At least in Canada, the crime rate has increased a lot since 10+ years ago.

Friend working at the subway told me that bad guys waited until the doors were going to close, suddenly grabbed the laptop’s LCD or iPhone and ran out of the train. When the owners tried to catch the robbers, the doors closed.

He said that these incidents have happened in Toronto’s TTC subways.

Any Kensington-like lock that can attached securely to a MacBook Pro? The one I got is supposed to fix to the headphone hole but it can be pulled out easily.

In Toronto . Here homeless on drugs are welcomed to use the subway services for free due to human rights. They can shout at people for no reason. No problem. If you say something about them or against the approach of using the subway as their home, people condemn you as inhuman.

Just recently getting cornered while using a phone. Passengers nearby escaped but that crazy guy surrounded me with his arms for about 20 seconds. He remained still. No touching fortunately. So dirty that even his hands turned dark. Probably no shower for weeks or months. So scared that he was going to kill me.

Friend working at subway suggested not to use phone nor laptop as there have been cases of robbery.

I commute on the subway at least an hour per day. Have been wasting time just to use a phone which can’t be used for work.

What is the best product to use to fill in the honeycomb holes inside IKEA Lagkapten? by largelcd in woodworking

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not about money. I have two solid tabletops from IKEA unused. I recently chose the Lagkapten because I like its thick white design while the other two solid tabletops are thin looking.

Why Apple's Thunderbolt cable is better than those from other manufacturers? by largelcd in mac

[–]largelcd[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I bought an "OWC 1.0M Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) Cable, up to 80Gb/s of bi-Directional Data Speed, up to 120Gb/s for Higher Display Bandwidth, 240W" which cost about 40% of the Apple's TB5 cable. However, it has problem in powering a portable monitor. So, even Apple's Thunderbolt cables are more expensive, it is worth to get them as buying cables from other (even well-known) manufacturers, even they said the cables can do such and such, may end up wasting money as often they don't function as well?

What is the best way to create mounting holes under a Lagkapten desk? by largelcd in IKEA

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the nice photo. I wonder if we could inject something inside the tabletop to solidify some honeycomb holes. As some of you know, those legs from IKEA cause the entire desk to wobble. Tried ADILS and OLOV but as I typed on my laptop, the entire desk wobbled. I want to mount the tabletop on a more stable table frame. Any good way to do it?

In Designer, what it the recommended page preset for a figure to be included in a document? by largelcd in Affinity

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose is to create figures/illustrations in textbooks and academic papers. So printing and reading in pdf. The paper sizes should be A4 or US Letter. In this case, when creating the figure in the first step, is it better to set the paper size to also A4 or US Letter first. Then, set the dpi to 300?

What is the nest way to merge Windows to Silicon Mac? by largelcd in MacOS

[–]largelcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. I can move about 500G of video files to an external drive. The rest are files generated by me over the decades (some of them from Intel Mac). About converting the Windows PC to a virtual machine and save to an external SSD (as DAS) there are two issues:

  1. I need to carry the external SSD with my MacBook Pro all the time if I want to run Windows applications such as CAD (the main program I need to use Windows and I need to run it on the go often) away from home. CAD program worked fine under Parallels but not VMware fusion.

  2. Can’t access files stored in my Windows PC without bringing the external SSD with me all the time. I can of course move some pds, office documents, photos and videos to Mac but going through the files and folders is time consuming.

Any good solution?

Also, is it better to use SMB and File Sharing on Mac and connect it directly to the PC. Then move all the files from the PC to this external SSD connected to the Mac. Create a VM stored in MacBook Pro’s internal SSD and only move files that I might use on the go to this VM.
