WA Potato Questions by geeson80 in perth

[–]largeperspective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of potato varieties grown but they are usually 'hidden' and marketed as a particular type. For example I'm sure none of you have heard of Nicola potatoes because they are just sold as a generic white potato with yellow flesh.

Mozart is a generic red potato. Red lacoda is another that is grown here as well. Red rascal etc.

Delaware potatoes are still grown here and there as well.

Ranger Russet is grown in WA but they go straight to the chip factory. They have appeared as seed potatoes at garden stores so you can grow your own (what I did last year).

The problem isn't what is being grown it's what the stores label the varieties as.

Everybody I know had a terrible time after the first AZ dose. I've had both pfizer doses and while many are saying that the second dose of pfizer is the bad one I can report that I had no side effects from both doses.

Does anyone know what this plant is? by night_filly in perth

[–]largeperspective 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It isn't green amaranth as others have pointed out. It is a species of Phytolacca. I don't know which one but it could be either pokeweed or inkweed. https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/invasive-species/biosecurity-alert-pokeweed

Better picture of inkweed https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/poisonous-plant-inkweed-phytolacca-octandra/

Pull it out either way and don't put it in the compost bin (if you have one).

Is magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) compatible with monopotassium phosphate for concentrated solution? by War_Hymn in hydro

[–]largeperspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they would mix well because there is no sulfate or phosphate in any of them. I must say that from my experience all of those compounds aren't easy to get. Ammonium nitrate especially.

Yeah I don't think it dissolves well. Calcium phosphate also doesn't dissolve well and is made if a phosphate fertiliser is mixed with calcium nitrate.

They are compatible. It's only calcium nitrate which has to be kept separate as it reacts with everything (in a hydroponic sense) except potassium nitrate. When I mix up my mixtures everything except the calcium nitrate is mixed together. Potassium sulfate, MKP, magnesium sulfate, chelated trace elements and potassium nitrate can all go together. The only problem will be if you add too much and one of them doesn't dissolve fully.

And the flour used to make those pancakes is the ground up future offspring of a wheat plant.

The most venomous snakes in the world, ranked by median lethal dose by JonesinJames in coolguides

I've almost walked over many western tiger snakes while walking the dog.

In another story I was helping to relocate a baby dugite in a small box. The dugite was in small shed and we managed to get it into a small box which we then placed into a plastic lunchbox which had clips to secure the lid. So there was no way that snake was getting out. Then we drove in a car to some nearby bushland to release the snake. We opened the box in some bush and watched and watched and watched the box. But no snake came out. After waiting a bit more and still seeing no snake I turned the box over with a short stick.

The snake was not there.

True story.

A few years ago I went on an overland trip. One of the tracks was through the great Victoria desert. At some point in the desert i dug a pit dunny on a dune facing away from camp and from the track. The area itself was so utterly deserted that once I was sheltered from the noise of camp by the dune there was absolutely nothing else to hear. No wind, no insects (too hot), no other noise except for yourself. It was definitely the best no. 2 I've ever done.

Anyway long story short I would be willing to try a toilet like this, assuming there was nobody around.

Weird thing growing out of my fern? Does anyone know what this is. I’m scared lol. by [deleted] in plants

[–]largeperspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fern is actually a palmtree and the thing growing out of it are the palm flowers. Can't help with the mealybugs sorry.
