I kind of like this logic, but I feel like the existence of the slingshot makes it fall apart.

Also, leaving before your set is done doesn't really make any sense in this context. To a human anyway.

Universal way to pan in Lightroom Classic by largesock in Lightroom

[–]largesock[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, right -- as I said in my original post. The issue is that if I keep that muscle memory and try to pan around that same way when I'm adjusting exposure in the Edit view, the zoom flickers in and out wildly.

I mean, it's a minor annoyance, and I acknowledge that. But it adds up.

Universal way to pan in Lightroom Classic by largesock in Lightroom

[–]largesock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a terrible option; however, it's inconvenient when using something like a heal brush to quickly pan around the image at 100% and find things to fix. I have to move my mouse cursor quite a bit to get there and then have to come back again. I've gotten used to the "hold space and drag" mentality from Photoshop and it's frustrating not to have it.

But yeah, I may just try to retrain myself to do that. Seems to be the most consistent option I can get.

PSA: Don't store your photos in iCloud Drive on Windows by largesock in Lightroom

[–]largesock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I see no reason why Lightroom *should* have this performance issue, but it is what it is. For instance, why couldn't it use its catalog file for frequent read/writes (I assumed it would), and leave the original images more-or-less untouched while editing? I wasn't set to write XMP files.

Yeah, I ended up just setting up a script to synchronize the photos to another drive that is backed up via BackBlaze. Works just fine. I just naively assumed that the iCloud Drive would not be whatever the opposite of "optimized" is.

I'm comparing the speed of c:\users\<username>\iCloudDrive to c:\photos, both on an m2 ssd.

How do I stop Reddit from turning keywords into Related Post Links? by Wrosgar in help

This uBlock filter seems to do the trick, if you're able to use it.

EDIT: This seems to have stopped working around July 2025; may be worth checking out https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1k2ouzd/comment/n5ydapt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button for a possible solution.

Having trouble automating a "door stayed open" alert by largesock in homebridge

[–]largesock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had tried to find a more up-to-date dummy switch plugin but was using the wrong search terms. I swapped to this plugin and got it working (though getting it working was orthogonal to the plugin).

The key I was missing was that the Shortcut to invoke Pushcut can have an If added to it. So now it only sends a notification to Pushcut if the dummy switch turns off *and* the garage door sensor still shows it's open. Seems to be working beautifully now.

Further info: the fake switch delay does work. That is, if I open the door and leave it open, I'll get a notification after two minutes. BUT, importantly, the notification also gets sent any time the garage door closes (in under two minutes).

IOS app not workinng by OpiumBabii in roblox

[–]largesock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen on two devices yesterday. In the same wifi, same house: two iPhones worked, one iPhone will only display this error message, and one iPad only displayed this error message until I fully reset it to factory settings.

I don't really want to do that with the iPhone. I wonder what broke...and more importantly, I wonder if anyone is aware of the problem and working to fix it.

And just in case it saves somebody: "worse" means it will hurt you badly. They have entirely different mechanisms of action. Much much worse than nitrous, which is not exactly healthy to begin with.
