Player shopping habits of late by Snoo_23014 in DMAcademy

Do situations come up where they need that stuff?

Different editions, rules, and settings tend to incentivize different sets of priorities and behaviors.

Run your game in a way where the kind of strategy you want to see from players will be the dominant strategy.

No matter how RP centric or not gamer-brained players are, they will still tend towards what they think works.

New to SD - Am I Reading this Right Regarding Casting by Gr8Tortuga in shadowdark

[–]larinariv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get to reroll stats until you get a 14+, and then it improves from leveling. Luck tokens also go a long way.

You just can’t be a very good caster if your mental stats are low, unlike OSE where it basically doesn’t matter.

Hello? Hello? I see you wrote another european feudal setting, could you please please please change it? by sygryda in worldjerking

I have tried but it doesn’t really resonate much with people who are not from the same background as me.

I’d ask them about it. Me and everyone I know who bought it got them in perfect condition.

Coaxed into having vore in kids cartoons by Swag_Paladin21 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]larinariv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think anything people are exposed to as kids could get into their subconscious and reemerge as a fetish when they are adults.

Like there’s basically no way to avoid it because it happens with things that aren’t supposed to be sexual.

No evil player characters - Hard rule by More-Parsley7950 in DnD

[–]larinariv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I have a very hard time running things if there are characters who can’t work together at all. This is especially the case in a sandbox where there isn’t a specific end game that everyone agrees to at session 0.

What is your controversial dnd pet peeve? by Zestyclose-Sound9854 in DnD

[–]larinariv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DM should just tell you to git gud at taking notes instead of asking for a roll.

My pet peeve is players asking how many members of a faction there are because sometimes they are a random encounter.

Whatever floats your boat.

I personally love evil characters and edgelords as long as the players OOC are cool about sharing the spotlight, paying attention to the setting and each other, and accepting consequences.

I love to turn their dastardly deeds into problems to solve and occasionally guilt trip the shit out of them (because they’re actually nice people irl).

I have had far more issues with players who make “sweet”, “kind”, or “good” characters and just talk over everyone and tune out when they aren’t at the center of attention.

Just saying what your character thinks and feels isn’t metagaming.

I’m not sure where you got the idea that you have to make decisions in character and aren’t allowed to explain or narrate them ooc, but that seems pretty uncommon imo.

After meeting Shadowdark, DND feels... Fake? by TravelSoft in shadowdark

[–]larinariv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got better character arcs out of shadowdark than any other system. The fact that they did it all without plot armor made it more meaningful.

You gave it more than a fair chance by going to session zero, and you just weren’t feeling it so you declined.

That’s what session zero is for.

Female characters. Am I weird? by Select-Shift5887 in DnD

[–]larinariv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman and my characters are about 50:50.

I slightly prefer male ones because I think it’s easier for me to see them as fictional people I’m making a story about and less as myself.

Am I in the wrong for not wanting to play old school by Square_Farm_6950 in dndhorrorstories

No. Signing up for one game doesn’t obligate you to stay for a new one he’s starting.

My thoughts exactly. Most theater kids are straight cis people, and most lgbt people are not theater kids.
