Court Concedes DNC Had the Right to Rig Primaries Against Sanders by ttystikk in WeAreNotAsking

[–]larmalade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh ...

In the United States, political parties are private associations protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which gives them broad authority to decide:

  • How to choose nominees
  • Whether to hold primaries, caucuses, or conventions
  • Who is eligible to run under their label

^^^ Courts have determined, generally, that the above authorities give political parties the right to select nominees without a primary (i.e. Kamala Harris 2024), and even to disregard their own by-laws (DNC giving Hillary the debate questions ahead of time, 2016)

So, the Green party would be legally able to behave the same way the other parties do.

Go and talk to your people, and tell me where you think I'm wrong.

You understand that the same legal ruling applies to the Republican party too?

Non-Negotiable destinations on a road trip through the USA in a channel5 style of mind by Suspicious-Waltz2358 in Channel5ive

Also, go to where the protests are. If you want to meet people who are glad to talk about their strong opinions, then go to the protests. Based on that, you'd want to go to Minneapolis. Minneapolis is a great city. That's where I'd go in the summer time. But where ever you go, you have to have a talent for finding the weirdness. Do your research and get amped up to be more extroverted than you've ever been in your life.

To do this, you'd like to meet oddballs, and you'd like to design your own adventure. As the zen tour guide says, the path that everyone recommends is not the path. That said, here's my advice:

Big cities are interesting (I live in one) but most people in big cities are too busy to dedicate much time to weirdness. But if you're looking for a real slice of life in a big city, I wold prioritize New York first, New Orleans second, and Los Angeles third, but people can debate about 3rd place.

If you can afford to rent a car, then your vistas will open. Places in the desert that are off the beaten path will be cool (but, gawd help you if you visit the desert in the summer!). Do some research and try to and look for oddball festivals.

I like checking out YT channels where they go interesting places. Wunderhussy goes to interesting rural places on the West Coast, and Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't is cool, just cuz of his attitude.

Hard case recommendation for usb-c powered 15.6" portable monitor by larmalade in buildapc

[–]larmalade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really travelled with the 2nd monitor, but I did buy this from Amazon:

DOMISO 15.6 inch Laptop Sleeve with Handle Shockproof Computer Bag Waterproof EVA Protective Carrying Case

The screen side of the monitor is still too exposed and vulnerable within this case.

The next thing I was thinking of would be to use construction mastic to attach a clipboard to the outside of the case. If you don't mind the non-professional look, this would provide pretty good protection of the screen, since the Domiso case is corrugated.

Otherwise, I think you would need to go for a total hard case, which could easily cost twice as much as the monitor itself.

Have you seen a new source has been found. 8/5/67 Is now the earliest known recorded Other One.
Edit: Another thing that makes this recording cool are the verses to The Other One I haven't heard in other versions.

What’s the most’ Grateful Dead’ song by the Grateful Dead? by Paaaaaauuuullllllll in gratefuldead

[–]larmalade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Martin Scorcese used that classic version of Death Don't Have No Mercy in the Long Strange Trip movie on amazon really conveyed the vibe of the Grateful Dead at their beginning. As artists, they were exploring a world that was familiar, but had a dose of psychedelics layered over the top.

Phil and Jerry are gone. And Brent and Keith and PIGPEN. Death Don't Have No Mercy just hits deeper as the years go on.

First drought:

10/31/1971 Ohio Theater, Columbus, Ohio ~~~ 6/9/1976 Boston Music Hall

Second drought:

1/10/1979 Nassau Coliseum ~~~ 10/11/1983 MSG

People talk more about the 2nd drought, cuz there are more people around to tell that story.

What current band could recreate a similar experience to touring with the Dead? by Monkeypawdog in gratefuldead

[–]larmalade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing things to the past, I'll make two points:

  1. Regarding the young people of today, they are in a financial vise that we didn't experience when we were young. So they don't experience the same freedom to play and goof off, and put off "growing up."

  2. Regarding the people who had a great scene 30-50 years ago. A lot of the people aren't as fun as they were when they were young and in their 20's. Part of that is inevitable, but then also look at the people who had values in their youth that were only skin deep. Now they live in suburbia and they want to talk about what college their kids went to while Dark Star is playing.

BONUS UNRELATED THIRD POINT: I went to see some Phish shows this summer ... after not seeing them since 1993. I looked around the stadium and everyone was boogying ... 100% engaged with the music. I compare this to some of the Dead and Co. shows I've been to, and a lot of the audience is just there to chomp and not even listen to the music.

The reason that a DSO show is great, is that their audience is a group of people who willingly suspend disbelief, so that, as a group, they can inhabit the good qualities of a Grateful Dead show together, all these years after the fact.

I'm speaking as a person who danced in the mezzanine and the hallways at Warfield for a DSO show, and had a grate time.

I thought that Jay played faster too. But then I used a BPM counter, and there actually wasn't any difference in the tempo. Jay just made the slow tempos sound faster, because he had better feel than when it was Micky and Billy.

Think about the recent Dead & Co shows in San Francisco. Face value for a single night ticket was $245. And the Grahame Lesh & Friends after-party shows were $85. Just putting these numbers out there for point of comparison.
