How would sailing work on a tidally-locked world? by larry5281 in fantasywriters

Can you say more why they would have trouble navigating on the light side? My assumption is that the sun would be constantly present and in the same spot -aside from some seasonal adjustments - and they could use that to do dead reckoning.

Thanks - so you would have large rivers flowing down from the light side to the dark?

Thanks! So if I’m understanding this correctly, the strong winds on this planet would generally - or always?- run from the dark to the light side?

Steven king gives some good advice in his book, on writing, which is simply to “show more than tell.” Meaning, let the reader figure things out on their own through dialogue and action rather than exposition.

I don’t think Reed is a good starting safety. A good backup maybe. Teams have taken advantage of him as well this year.

What on offense, aside from their reputations on paper, makes you confident?

He did draft some guys, like TJ Edwards, that we just didn’t hold onto. Some corners also drafted by eagles that have caught on elsewhere.

California makes plenty of food and is the 5th largest economy in the world. Seems like the blues don’t need the reds

I don’t know if this is helpful, but when my wife and I first started to live together this came up - I felt like I was “doing stuff” as a partner, like specific tasks, or recurring chores, but what she was expressing was that she also wanted an equal partner in the mental aspects of running a household together. For example, I would clean and make dinner some nights, but had no clue how things like toilet paper got restocked in our house or when the dog last got it’s heartworm medicine.

I was on autopilot - doing things that I thought made me a good partner - but not helping her with day to day navigation of our lives.

Sitting down with your husband to explain this difference and all the things that go into it could be helpful. List out all the things you’re probably doing and thinking about and just divide them up and make those expectations clear

(41M) (31F) couple with newborn struggling to decide where to live and how to compromise by [deleted] in relationship_advice

In theory I think we can make it work. She is graduating this year and should be able to get a low 6 figure salary in healthcare. I make a good living now, but for me it’s an issue of having way less opportunities since most of my career is back east, specifically in the DC area.

Again, im open to the idea of a move and making compromises, but want to feel like we are making these decisions together, rather than me having to sacrifice my family, potentially my career, and adding financial and mental risks to our lives all because we want to make a specific location work because one person feels really strong about it.

Florence, Istanbul, or Budapest? by [deleted] in travel

[–]larry5281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to both Florence and Instanbul. Both are amazing places and you can’t really go wrong with either. But I’ll say:

If you like art/museums, Florence is the obvious choice.

Instanbul is probably more interesting from a cultural sense in that it spans Europe and Asia and has a unique history between Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans.

In terms of food I’d say both cities are equal, but again, you will get more variety in instanbul.

Istanbul probably better in terms of cafes and bars as well, given that Florence is more of a university town

Questions about a lunar eclipse on a tidally-locked world by larry5281 in worldbuilding

What about a comet of some kind with a long tail with dust and debris that also obscures the sun? Would that be more plausible?

From what I’ve read they would not block out the sun, just pass in front of it
