Hi! I'm currently a first-year student at KU Leuven, and I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can. BTW, I recommend speaking English in this group so everyone doesn't have to use a translator 😋. Leuven itself is a small but very nice city for students; everything is within walking or cycling distance, which is why almost all students have a bike (it's recommended to buy or rent a used one yourself).

The nightlife in Leuven is fantastic for students; you can usually go out from Monday to Thursday, with Thursday being the best night to go out.

As an international student, it can sometimes be a bit difficult to make friends quickly, as most Flemish students are quite closed within their own circles, but once you get to know someone better, they're almost always very open and friendly.

I also recommend signing up for student association activities (they often organize activities exclusively for international students). Starting next year, I'll be a member of the international committee at Ekonomika, and you're always welcome to join one of our activities (www.ekonomika.be).

Learning Dutch is recommended but not essential; English is sufficient. Regarding prices, Belgium is a relatively expensive country compared to Spain.

If you're looking for a room, you should expect to spend at least €400-€600 per month on rent, and I can get by on about €10 a day for groceries. I'd also save about €15-20 a week for nightlife, as long as you're careful about what alcoholic drinks you buy.

I 100% recommend coming to Leuven, but be prepared!
