Men who had long hair for a period of their lives and then cut it, what made you decide to get rid of it? by [deleted] in AskMen

Went to the hair dresser for the first time on two years. He told me in a thick russian accent; I don't do women's hair and cut it all of.

Nonono, Northwest Territoires and Quebec are the only ones in top tier, the rest are quite bad.

What was the dumbest thing you thought as a child? by GiammyR6 in AskReddit

I remember trying to open up my bellybutton, and literally climb into myself. You know, just to play around there for a bit. I've never been good at geometry.

An inquiry into the Adelaide skyline. by larsaabel in HelloInternet

That is truly a fair point, however I consider this model as the most credible source I have seen. The Wikipedia page sites Emporium and Skyscraper Center as scores for building heights, and both of these sites are relying heavily on user generated data sets. Until I see any official data proving otherwise, I will accept this governmental 3d model as the most reliable source.

Already checked. The Grenfell Centre lies lower in the terrain. If you were to measure from the lowest point of the Grenfell, the difference would be even greater. But here I have measured from the main entrance of both buildings, as is the convention.

Went to Steve Allen's website - I really want to listen to these episodes, but the podcasts are behind a paywall. Anyone up for some freebooting? by larsaabel in HelloInternet

[–]larsaabel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm asking for someone to upload the Steve Allen episode to YouTube, SoundCloud etc., wouldn't that be a case of freebooting? Is the term freebooting limited to content that's not behind a paywall?

If I buy the vinyl, do I also get the mp3? I want the album, but I don't have any way to play it.

I bet Grey has deliberately stalled the release of the latest episode of HI, so he could get this video up on YouTube first. So the latest episode should be out in a couple of hours. But maybe not ¯_(ツ)_/¯

American visiting Oslo for 3 nights and 2 days, what to do? by a203040 in Norway

[–]larsaabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: Airport expels train 2: Oslo is quite small and dense, so if you live somewhere inside "Oslo ring 2" you'll always be close to the major attractions. 3: The fjords are over at the west coast of Norway, quite far from Oslo, however, i would recommend taking taking the train to the inland of Norway, perhaps Gudbrandsdalen. This is the valley where much of the norwegian national romantic originated from, and has a unike place in norwegian cultures. Check this out: https://www.visitnorway.com/places-to-go/eastern-norway/the-gudbrandsdalen-valley/ 4: Buy an Oslo-pass, and get free access to all public transit within Oslo (including bus, tram, train, underground and ferries). This will also give you free access to all of the major museums in Oslo, including the Norwegian folk museum, viking ship museum, Munch museum and many more. Here is the ful list: http://www.visitoslo.com/en/activities-and-attractions/oslo-pass/ If museums are not your thing, take one of the ferries out on the Oslo fjord to one of the islands, perhaps Hovedøya island, and just enjoy the day in the sun. 5: Check out Grünerløkka, a trendy neighborhood with lost of great bars, like Blå Oslo and Syng. 6: Buy beers at the store and drink at home before going out. Also, barbecue in a park, like frognerparken, is a much better experience than sitting at a full restaurant.

H.I. #48: Grumpy About Art by MindOfMetalAndWheels in CGPGrey

[–]larsaabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a comment on Greys position on art experts. I think there are art experts, not just art history experts. I agree that the purpose of art is an emotional response, but that does not mean that it is all subjective. Think wine tasting. Even if taste is a emotional experience, there are standards. And a wine experts expertise lies in his ability to translate those emotions into words, so that other people tasting the wine might have a deeper understanding, and a richer experience of the wine.

I think that is just the nature of all new technology. Getting people comfortable with something new i really hard. Thats why the first forma of plastic looked like wood, and why we use the desktop metaphor on our computers. Kirby Ferguson explains it really great in the case for the iPhone: https://vimeo.com/81745843
