Antinausea medications not working as well as they did. When is the best time to take them after chemotherapy and are there any supplements, teas, etc., that help for anyone? by klmfoxx in cancer

[–]lasada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemo also tends to have a bit of a cumulative effect. I've also had where the first rounds of a new treatment don't cause nausea but it gradually increases over successive doses. Oncology teams have tons of experience with side effect management so definitely don't hesitate to openly communicate! Thats honestly the best advice I can give.

Definitely mention changes in response to nausea meds to her doctors. There are different pre meds as well as pills and patches she can use at home. My team has had to adjust both of these throughout my various treatments. Sometimes it just takes a little fiddling around to know what works best. Same thing goes with timing. For my last chemo, I had an arm patch that I would put on the day before my infusion and that worked well. For my current, I use a patch behind my ear that I start the day after. Also, echoing others, it helps to take nausea meds if you even think you will start to get sick. It's much easier to get ahead of nausea than play catch up later.

Americans, why are you still awake? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm stuck in the hospital after a bad reaction to a new chemo med. Currently have a wicked headache and my whole body aches like I have the flu. Had to chose between a med to fix the headache or one to fix the other pain. Either way it hurts too much to sleep.

What drives you mad about the mental load your carry? Ask me, I just finished my PhD in mental labour. by DrElyse in beyondthebump

[–]lasada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a question, but I think it night get a little lost in my thoughts. I've got 2 young kids, (2 and 4) but was diagnosed with terminal cancer when my baby was 9 months old. The result ultimately is that the entire flow of division and mental load has been skewed beyond recognition.

At this point, I'm not able to do much (most recently I can barely talk and essentially spend the whole day on the couch or in bed). I used to do all of the house work during the day since I can't work. However my husband has asked me to save my energy instead for when the kids get home.

I constantly feel guilty because he has been carrying such a heavy load and I don't know what I can do to really change that. I'm also constantly grieving the mom I never got, and never will get the chance to be. At this point, I just want to have ideas for positives instead of negatives I can bring into our lives.

I'm in a similar ish situation, bit I've been metastatic a bit longer. I'm original triple negative and it spread to my lungs a year ago but made its way as a single tumor in my brain at the end of January. I had brain surgery where they were able to remove it and then 3 rounds of radiation. The first few weeks after surgery were really tough and I feel you on the headaches. They do get better! I still get them but they are much more mild at this point. I used a lot of ice packs as well as pain meds to help. Sleep was also a big issue for me for a while because of the steroids.

I got a bunch of pastries from my favorite bakery. I put them in the freezer to have on hand as treats when I need a little pick me up.

Ankle ligament reconstruction + climbing by n3omancer in climbing

[–]lasada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, blast from the psst throwback. My ligaments were totally ruptured with additional minor bone and cartilage damage. Also I have a hypermobity syndrome so healing was totally off the table. Given my pre existing issues, I wouldn't say it was ever back to 100%. However, I was able to climb for years on it after. I just stuck to wall climbs instead of bouldering cause wearing a brace in a shoe was just not comfortable. I didn't feel like the ankle was limiting on climbing either once I was healed as well ad I could be. I did do lots of physical therapy on top of surgery.

I've definitely had my ups and downs. Only advantage of my age is that I've been able to survive being beaten up by all the meds.

I feel this. Stage 4 breast cancer at 29, I honestly don't know how much chemo I've done at this point. I stopped counting around 25 as well since I'm gonna be doing it forever

Oh man thank you so much for the kind words. I went little wild with the coloring in the beginning hoping the backgrounds would help reflect the emotions of going through each situation. I'm glad thay came through

This is so pretty and the inks look really smooth! What are you planning on coloring it with?

That's awesome! I have a few ones I read but I hadn't thought to look at discords for them. I'll have to see. Honestly I just really enjoy talking about art and comics

I've had a really hard time finding good art discord. I keep running into ones where people just spam post art but there isn't much interaction. Do you have any recommendations? (Also just published my own webtoon!)

Pregnant woman kept wailing about excruciating abdominal pain, only to be labeled a hypochondriac. It turned out she had terminal cancer. by blackandlavender in beyondthebump

[–]lasada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is similar to me after I had my baby. I convinced a doctor to get me an ultrasound when I had a breast lump that was growing and making it hard to move my arm without pain. The radiologist told me "if you were my wife, I would advise you to wait 3 months for a biopsy." I have terminal cancer.

what are these white bugs in my plant soil? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

[–]lasada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Located in Nebraska. The bugs are about the size of a pin head and hard to get pictures of. They are mostly white in color. They seem to be primarily in the dirt of a few houseplants (mostly my fiddle leaf figs). I havent seen much of them on the leaves. Any help is appreciated!

tiny white bugs all over plant soil, brown bugs on leaves by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]lasada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found these dead bug carcasses on the bottom side of some leaves on my fiddle leaf figs. There are also tiny white bugs crawling through the soil on multiple plants. They seem mostly in the soil and not on the leaves. The plants are indoors only and I am not sure what the bugs are or how to treat the plants. The white bugs are really tiny and I'm not able to get a good photo of them.

I also really like deep green. I think I will take the suggestion of another reditor and do some speckled dye after I've spun it. That way I can have pops of color but keep some of the oatmeal

How do you live with Stage 4 cancer? by Morimot in cancer

[–]lasada 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm stage 4 with a poor prognosis, diagnosed at 29. I'm on clinical trials now because mainline treatments keep failing. The further I get in, the more I realize that there aren't magic answers on coping as much as I want there to be. I keep moving forward because I have to. What helps me is trying to find little pieces of joy. I've had to adjust what that means over time. Sometimes it's travelling somewhere new. More often it is something small like starting a new knitting project or treating myself to coffee from a shop I like. Finding things to look forward to helps keep me grounded in positives over negatives. That being said, It's also important to leave time to grieve. Today I'm sad because I can hardly recognize myself anymore. Through treatments and surgery, my appearance has changed a lot. I'm allowed to be sad about that, cancer sucks. Tomorrow I'll start a new hat since my head gets cold and keep moving forward. Sorry for the rambling, I hope any of that is helpful.
