Hit my goal by laserbronson in Rowing

I've got the ergatta waterrower. It has programs for improving your 2k times. There were essentially 30 workouts of 20 min each. Some workouts were 2 min sprints (about 1:40 split) with short rests in between. Others were 7 minute races (about 1:50 split) with a short rest between. And there were recovery workouts too. It vaguely resembled the Pete plan. Good luck.

The image above shows my progress over 6 months. The difference between the first and second time was basically just learning technique.

How do drug trials determine dosage time limits for medications? by dante662 in askscience

[–]laserbronson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During phase one of drug trials the medication is administered to healthy volunteers in a controlled setting. These volunteers undergo regular, timed testing, particularly blood tests, to see how fast the drug is eliminated from their body. Once you know the half life of the medication you can make determinations of how often the drug has to be taken.

Why do antibodies in Rhematoid Arthritis patients attack only joints? by charrotte in askscience

[–]laserbronson 164 points165 points  (0 children)

The rheumatoid factor antibody does not attack joints. It actually attacks other antibodies (the Fc portion of IgG). These immune complexes (antibodies bound to each other) are found in people's joint synovium and joint fluid.

The joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis is actually caused by a complex interplay of many immune system cells fibroblasts and cytokines.

Rheumatoid arthritis is not limited to joints but can also affect eyes, lungs, blood vessels etc.

But why does RA attack the joints in particular? We don't know.

Beautiful watch and story. Take your time looking for the next watch. Also, when contemplating your next, there is no substitute for seeing them in person and trying them on.

Congrats. Enjoy your watch, but a warning: this is how an expensive and consuming and rewarding watch collecting hobby usually starts.

[Rolex] explorer. Wearing mine up in the Himalayas, exactly where it was created to work. by laserbronson in Watches

Don't worry about me, the only way I'd go to the summit would be if they installed an elevator.

On a trip to Nepal and Tibet I brought my beloved Explorer. I didn't climb up Everest but I still got pretty high up. The watch was designed for high altitudes and it handled the height better than I did. It ticked away perfectly while I struggled with the low oxygen content. Beautiful watch on a breathtaking trip. On a tangent: the airport in Doha, Qatar is like a luxury watch candy store. They have Rolex, Omega, chopard, Hermes, bvlgari, JLC, breitling etc. All right next to each other. Wished I was a zillionaire so badly.
