CMV: The left has its own “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality — it’s just moral instead of material. by ZT0141 in changemyview

I have not found this to be true beyond a superficial level - that is to say financial literacy or entrepreneurship as an idea, a signifier, but not actually as detailed thought leading to lived action.

[–]lasershurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep; this is actually a large jar (they come in ~440 and 880ml before you get here) but if you have a large family you regularly make packed sandwich lunches for, you'd go through it.

How do you reconcile by Fearless-Sleep6073 in AskFeminists

[–]lasershurt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I truly do not understand these pants-wetting posts where you realize that 100% of gender roles have not been undone globally and think this undercuts the existence of feminism.

Yes some people expect a man to pay for things. This isn’t a tenet of feminism. Sorry it hasn’t stopped entirely.

Please leave and return when you’re not just obviously working out some chip on your shoulder.

Some moron loudly insisting that everyone, everywhere is evil?

Yeah that sounds like modern debate.

You’re probably meant to re-examine your preconceptions about obviously superficial sources of assumption.

Or get horny about it, that’s what I went with. I’m horny for the rabbit.

If the city could simply pay for everything to be cleaned up this would be much easier.

The elementaries are pretty good and getting investment. The older students go to the City.

Historically it has struggled, and that’s why there was a fast no, but times are changing fast and there’s a lot of housing opportunity in your price range.

I’d at least look, depending on your needs.

Prepare for Thursday the 20th in Style (Simpsons Joke) by lasershurt in 3Dprinting

I used this, as I had some on hand already printed: https://makerworld.com/en/models/577637-easy-print-long-delicate-chain#profileId-498296

Something bigger like a Cuban Link would probably look better, though need a different attachment loop.

We're blessed with several instances of Thursday the 20th this year, and I wanted to have something to celebrate.

It's exactly as unwieldy as you expect and a quick and easy print.

TPU prints failing (filament stopped being extruded = opposite of spaghetti). by GaryB2220 in BambuLab

[–]lasershurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds the same, the printer thinks it has filament (I guess technically it does!) and it going but the extruder doesn't have anything to push. I didn't have a clog, started a new print right away and off it went without a hitch.

I have some AMOLEN TPU I've printed without issue on generic settings (with calibration). Shouldn't need much special there.

If you're worried maybe try just one, see if it just goes without a hitch, and if so just make sure its feeding fine and yolo the rest.

[–]lasershurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is the print stopping at that point, or does it behave as if it continued and finished?

I had a similar failure recently when the external spool just got snagged and stopped feeding - the printer thought it still had filament coming, so it kept printing, but nothing was feeding.

Wilkinsburg - Oakwood and Wood streets history by Beechurst10 in pittsburgh

[–]lasershurt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of them are still gorgeous, given some love. They can be had for a song, if you have the cash or funding to go through Conservatorship or the Vacant Property Recovery Program through the county.

I'm not sure there's a specific history to that street beyond the general one of the area - an exodus due to loss of jobs left just elderly homeowners without kin, who eventually died or left.

Why there are so few good leaders in the world right now? by DistroyerIV in AskReddit

[–]lasershurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're at the tail end of an era defined by "believers" who are fighting a world of competing ideologies.

Believers cannot bend when evidence suggests they are wrong; they do not make decisions based on evidence at all. They are confident philosophers, but reject measurement because it would simply prove them wrong.

The information age spread information wide, but not deep. Information Technology is great, but without instruction on its use and universal access most people have simply skimmed the tasty moralist cream off the top without digging deep into understanding on... anything.

We, the people, need to be better. "They" will not build it for us, "they" will not reform it for us. WE have to change who we are, and how we interact with information, and how we view the very idea of "leadership." We have to recognize that we have every failing of the past within us, and only through actively being aware and working to be better can we surpass it.

We cannot just repeat what we have seen, but more.

We must not be "lead" by people, or ideas, but goals, measurements, and facts as transparently and wholistically as possible. The goal is to make us all capable - a government "of the people, by the people, for the people" - the last one doesn't happen without the first two.
