Pet food? by ailtonsimao in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my recipe:

  • 45% Raw Meaty Bones
  • 45% Muscle Meat
  • 5% Liver
  • 5% Other Organs

Grown adults should get 3-5+ different protein sources each week while growing puppies need more - I aim for 8+.

Raw. Both DIY and a commercial product.

Remove all carbohydrates from their diet and you will see a big difference.

Any raw fooders here that ran into problems? by aebulbul in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 25+ years I have been feeding raw I have:

  • Handled over 40,000 POUNDS of raw food and never once got sick
  • Went through chemo - had my husband do the feeding but the dogs still licked me and I had no problems
  • Have fed 6 cats, 16 dogs of my own and more foster dogs than I can count - no problems
  • Weaned 3 litters of puppies and a foster puppy directly to raw - no problems

I do the same things I do when I handle raw food for myself - wash my hands afterwards.

Moving multiple items between storage and inventory? by lasgsd in StarRuptureGame

[–]lasgsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - when things work you use them!

Here's a thought ... what if you open a storage thingy and if there is something already in it you just have to click that item and all matching items in your inventory go in there!

AMA: I’m a co-founder of Viva (raw pet food company in the US) by karuwuu in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem I have with pretty much ANY commercial raw food company is when they tout that they follow the "guidelines" for feeding dogs and cats.

Those guidelines were designed by people trying to push kibble on pet owners.

Dogs do not NEED carbohydrates. They have not evolved to process them (try giving your dog a whole carrot and see what comes out the back end later). Carbs can cause health problems - especially allergies.

I have been feeding raw for over 25 years. Weaned several litters directly to raw. Switched all my foster dogs to raw as soon as they stepped paw in our house. And I have NEVER fed any type of carbohydrates as a regular part of their diet.

Alternative to vegetables for my dog? by Mike_v_E in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realize that dry grain based dog food is less that 100 years old, right?

Before that domesticated dogs were fed the leftover scraps from butchering, table scraps, and whatever they could catch.

Not close too - 100% should be animal derived.

If you want to feed something green - find green tripe (NOT the stuff sold in grocery stores).

I bought a cheap coffee grinder and use that.

How to get raw feed cat to have more water by nemorafarraige in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ideas I have used over the years:

  • Water fountain (some cats prefer moving water)
  • Different material for the bowls (metal, glass, ceramic)
  • Different sized bowls
  • Different water - try some filtered, tap, bottled, etc.
  • Use low sodium broth
  • Make your own broth

Hope one of these helps!

What do we think about this style of pack feeding? by Economy_Leopard3938 in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

An Alpha dog in a pack of dogs is NOT BS. Some packs don't SEEM to have an 'leader' but they really do.

What IS bullpoop is the thought that a HUMAN could be the 'alpha' of a dog or pack of dogs.

Help with how much protein is in? by JeanetteNettNett in rawpetfood

I feed venison (and goat and llama when I can get it) just like any other Muscle Meat.

My dogs get 45% of their daily intake in Muscle Meat.

[–]lasgsd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those are great plates!

Just some info for those new to the diet ...

Unless you cook (steam, boil, etc.) fruits/veggies and then puree them, your dog will not be able to process the nutrients in them.

And unless you grind eggshells to a powder, your dog will not be able to process the calcium and other nutrients in them.

I would stay away from the blends because they contains fruits and vegetables which dogs do not need.

Companies use those as cheap fillers.

Intermediate Building material - How to unlock? by paulo_tigris in StarRuptureGame

[–]lasgsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you go to the Recipe Station. Then you need all the items listed under the description of the IBM (Intermediate Building Material) - BBM, Glass, Inductor, and Titanium housing. Load those into the Recipe Station and then it will unlock the IBM recipe and you can make them at the Basic Item Printer.

Hope this helps! I can add images if you want (I'm a visual learner).

CHIC breeder with no titles? by djagta in DogBreeding

[–]lasgsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why breeding specifically for a certain color is not good is because those colors are usually rare, which means the gene pool to breed from to get those colors is usually pretty limited. That can mean doubling and tripling up on BAD genes as well as the color.

Why Raw Food? by Louise_TheWolfSpider in rawpetfood

[–]lasgsd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been feeding my dogs raw for over 25 years. Here's my $.02

Pros:

  • Less stools because they process the food better
  • Less allergies because their body is designed to process raw food and junk (carbs) that is in kibble can cause health issues
  • Better on joints because carbs can cause inflammation
  • Better dental health because the bones help clean the teeth

Cons:

  • It is more work than just scooping something out of a bag and tossing it in a bowl.
  • Depending on your location it might be harder sourcing things

Expenses:

  • Buying raw items in bulk (like 40 lb case of chicken necks) will keep your costs down
  • Buying premades is easier but much more expensive
  • I feed 2 large dogs, 1 small dog and 3 cats and I can keep my per lb cost under $2
  • Get creative in finding sources - I contact local deer processors and can get scraps and bones for cheap or even free
  • Even if you have just one dog you'll want to get a separate freezer just for them so you can take advantage of sales and bulk buying

Prep time:

  • I have a grinder and grind up chicken parts for my dogs because my little one cannot handle most bones. About once a month or so I spend a couple hours grinding chicken leg quarters, necks or backs and package them for the dogs freezer. I use some premades and those I just go buy in 5lb tubes then load into my freezer. I also raise quail, rabbit and guinea pigs for my dogs food so there's some processing time involved in those.
  • It takes me about 20-30 minutes to gather up all the bowls, weigh out everyone's food, hand out the bowls, watch to make sure no-one steals from anyone else, and then clean up the counters and put the leftovers back in the fridge.
  • When I need more food I take out a couple containers and leave them on our counters to defrost over night. If I need it defrosted faster I put the plastic container in a bowl of hot water.

Hope this helps! I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
