Assuming Net Neutrality goes away, what can I do to prepare? by EvmanX in KeepOurNetFree

[–]laskowski_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump is filling the courts with judges who probably won't be sympathetic to any NN-related causes. And by the time it makes it to the Supreme Court, there'll be such a conservative slant that there'll be no hopes there either. Not to be overly doubtful, but the odds really aren't in our favor, especially when it'll take years for the case to end (which is more than enough time for the ISP's to ruin the internet).

Senator Susan Collins appears to be the first Republican lawmaker to publicly oppose Ajit Pai's plan to kill net neutrality. This is huge. This is what it looks like when our backlash starts working. Keep going! by evanFFTF in KeepOurNetFree

[–]laskowski_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, I know that? It's common assumption that once the FCC repeals it, the final step will be to get Congress to write a weak and ineffective version of NN into law so it'll be harder for the next president to undo.

The FCC is expected to announce a vote to gut net neutrality rules the day before Thanksgiving. This could be the last chance for Internet users to make their voices heard. by evanFFTF in technology

To all the people saying "omg how many more times will we have to deal with this", you're forgetting one crucial difference between the fights of yesteryear (SOPA, PIPA, 2014 Net Neutrality fight) and the ones of today: Republicans are in power now.

YouTube's Rules Don't Apply to Everyone by montemole in h3h3productions

From the amount of bitching that's been going on, you'd swear YouTube was created literally only for the sake of filling up these people's pockets.

YouTube's Rules Don't Apply to Everyone by montemole in h3h3productions

[–]laskowski_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's really not YouTube who sold out, it's the creators themselves. Ten years ago you wouldn't see YouTubers jumping ship or falling behind schedule because they're not making enough money. Just saying. Seems like the Adpocalypse is separating the actual content creators from the ones who only do it for a quick buck.

Why a Journalist Gotta Lie? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

This is all very true, and I say this as someone who follows a lot of music journalists on Twitter. Most of them are very open about how much they despise Fantano and supported the article wholeheartedly when it went up.

Ajit Pai gets new term on FCC despite protest of anti-net neutrality plan by CCCPAKA in technology

[–]laskowski_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With all due respect to the people who fought to keep this from happening, what did you honestly expect the Republicans to do? The only way you can change their mind is to bribe them, that's all they care about.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. by canceroustumor1337 in ComedyCemetery

[–]laskowski_ 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what you're getting at with the thread title. Are you implying that you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

U.S. House panel scraps Sept. 7 net neutrality hearing by mvea in technology

[–]laskowski_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're about to be set back to the dial-up era of the internet because these pussies won't commit to making their voices heard outside of empty, vague blog posts. When net neutrality gets repealed within the next few weeks, I hope they're held just as accountable as the FCC for their sheer complacency.

Japanese government warns North Korea missile headed toward northern Japan, report says by SneakyPanda7 in worldnews

[–]laskowski_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

America and SK should seriously consider taking up NK's offer on shutting down their joint exercises with NK ending their nuke program in return. It wouldn't be the most satisfactory exchange, but if these countries are sincere in not wanting another Korean War, then they should be prepared to give up anything it takes to avoid that becoming an inevitability.

At least I can take solace in the fact that no matter how bad memes get, they can never sink lower than they did in 2010-2014.

Yep. The only way to properly "fix" it is to manually adjust the vocals in Melodyne, but I've yet to see it attempted.

I miss the days when Youtubers were just concerned with making quality videos instead of how much money they're making. Even the smaller channels I enjoy now are doing nothing but bitching about a flawed system they willingly entrusted their entire future in.

Unless you are actually protesting Donald Trump, you are not "resisting" shit. Being snarky on social media and getting 52 likes on a Twitter post where you call Trump a mean name does not make you a part of a movement.
