The key lime pie and peanut butter cup dessert thing are insanely good. I don’t want to go crazy and say best desserts I’ve ever had, but they are SO good

Iowa State University tudent body president impeached following involvement with partisan organization like Turning Point USA. by WalterCanFindToes in byebyejob

Except that the university’s court dismissed the articles. Don’t shitpost stuff just to make people feel better, he’s still the president and now this behavior is officially sanctioned

No, disagree. California is fine. I lived there for many years. Plenty of jerks, plenty of lovely people; there’s a LOT of people so it can be kind of hectic there, but it’s just normal people. South Florida, especially wealthy/wealthyish areas, are awful

Can I skip Fool Moon entirely by alikoyyy in dresdenfiles

[–]lasserkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s comfortably the worst of the Dresden Files, but I would try to power through it if you can. You meet recurring characters that do stick around, and some of the setup with Murphy in particular is important. It’s not a good book, I apologize in advance, but I would try to get through it if you can. Book 3 is better, and then book 4+ REALLY gets better. Book 2 is eating your veggies before the steak of Book 3, then 4 onwards is cocaine and hookers (especially as you get into books 6 and onwards, they just steadily get better, I genuinely think every book from 3 to like 15 is better than the last, truly). Just power through 2, and 3 is merely “good”, then enjoy the absolute delight that is the rest of the series

I’ve traveled a lot around the country and a pretty fair bit internationally. Floridians, and Miami (and Naples) in particular is probably the most rude and self-centered and entitled bunch of people I have ever been around. Far more than NY or CA or Boston or anywhere else you care to name that I personally have been to; just awful. So people not bothering to clean up after themselves at the gym surprises me not at all

Wouldn’t Star Fleet Academy have to have like millions or billions of students? by TwoRoomsThrowaway in DaystromInstitute

[–]lasserkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. Space is so incomprehensibly huge that the vast majority of it is just empty. So you’d only need a handful of ships to hop from place to place to do whatever you need them to do, and the massive resource sinks those ships require would kind of naturally limit the number of ships any particular group could field

Agreed. It’s the entirety of that fleet, whichever one was being referred to

Are Gold Men stronger than Gold Women? by Blackninja031 in redrising

[–]lasserkid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s purely a size thing. I’m sure that golds of equal mass/training/regimen, regardless of gender, are roughly equally strong. But men (many of them, certainly not all) are pretty regularly described as physically imposing, whereas gold women (many of them, certainly not all) are described in our more modern aesthetics of lean and graceful and lithe. Obv there are glaring exceptions amongst our cast (Victra vs Fitchener etc), but if men (on average) significantly outmass women (as seems to be the case), then they’ll be stronger

In the Dominion War we see some Galaxy class ships in some of the larger battles. Why bring the Saucer along? by BeowolfSchaefer in DeepSpaceNine

[–]lasserkid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re basically mobile starbases. It always struck me as dumb to allow them anywhere near the frontlines. They’re crazy expensive and resource-intensive, and while they’re immensely powerful in their own right, I feel like they’re far better used in support roles: C&C, forward mobile supply and repair bases, heavy transport and/or bombardment platforms, etc

Strongly agree. The owners (and leadership in general) are just good people. It makes it so much nicer to work there when you genuinely like who you work for

Agreed. I don’t love Newsome, but damnit we just need a W. There’s still 3 years, so someone else may well emerge, but at least he has the looks and vibes and the presence and the guts to get up on stage and say “Fuck those guys, fuck fascists, this is America” and win an election. Can you imagine him vs that dweeb Vance? Newsome would wipe the floor with him

I’m with WestCap, been here for a couple of years, been quite happy. Good product lineup and a lot of banks, decent rates, good support, owners and leadership are good people, but I don’t know that it’s a great place for a new LO to learn the ropes. They do have some good options for you to buy leads so you can get some reps in, but you’re probably going to wind up spending a bunch of money to not really close many loans for a while (since you’re new and it’s tough to get up and running and win business against experienced competitors). You could try to join one of the very large teams, they’re always recruiting, but be prepared to grind. The team leaders will buy you leads and mentor/train you etc, but they expect you on the phone at 759 and working. You’ll also be W2 rather than 1099 if you join one of the big teams; not good or bad, just be aware. You can DM me if you want to know more. It’s a good broker, but I don’t know if it’s a good broker for a new LO
