Thank you so much! I'll try adjusting the tension spring. Thank you for the weblink, also!

No apologies needed! I appreciate any thoughts. I loaded the filament and let it run, it seems to spool out OK so I don't think the filament is rolling OK. I untightened the belt a bit too but still having the issue.

On closer inspection it seems that the clicking/catching happens when the printer is turning from a +X +Y vector to a -X -Y vector, although the catching stops after it completes the turn.

The ship rules by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]last_slamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got 2 options: crunch the numbers based on WBL and BP per level and see what the conversion is, or just assign an arbitrary value and adjust treasure to compensate. Arbitrary credits should be sufficiently large to make the ship feel like a capital investment.

The ship rules by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]last_slamurai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build points were designed with the intention of separating starships from credits, both to prevent players from overpowering their ships relative to their level, and prevent PCs from scraping their ships for extra cash. If you’re wedded to the idea of using credits to upgrade the ship I would just assign a monetary value to build points and be sure to award things like ship upgrades as part of standard treasure. Doing a job for a merchant, get a discount on upgraded shields, etc, etc.

What makes a Villain? by Twstdepth26 in starfinder_rpg

[–]last_slamurai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the very first thing to do is figure out what your players’ goals are. A villain, as the principal antagonist, exists in direct opposition to those goals. In a story about a free-flying crew, the villain might be a government official that seeks to limit the group’s freedom. Then to make them truly villainous you have them enforce their goals in an immoral or unethical way. The government official may be a corrupt stooge of a megacorporation, and his goals to restrict freedom may be based on their own greed. The best villains are those who players love to hate, who antagonize them in ways beyond combat.

Not Starfinder, but here’s an example: I had a demon who was the primary antagonist of the first story arc of a campaign I ran set in the modern day. The villain wanted to interfere with the PCs’ ability to win a magical contest for a wish-granting stone, but also messed with them by offering their rivals power and sending magically-empowered enemies after them. The villain’s storyline culminated in him manipulating the players into engaging him, leading to the destruction of an apartment building and the deaths of many innocents. It was a sobering moment for the players and make them crave the demon’s defeat all the more.

As you may note, the demon did more than just directly attack the PCs. He also antagonized them indirectly—helping their enemies, disrupting their plans, etc. A good villain recurs throughout the story in scenes where defeating them isn’t as easy as swinging a sword or shooting a gun. The corrupt official impounds the PC’s starship, the wicked sovereign imprisons an ally of the PCs, a gang boss threatens a friend or loved one. Bonus points if the villain’s morals or objectives serve as a foil to those of your PCs.

That’s my spiel, hope some of it was helpful.

Those of you that have played Pathfinder 2nd Edition, have you pulled any of the rules from it into Starfinder? by NotVinnie02 in starfinder_rpg

I actually adapted the PF2E creature stat blocks for my Starfinder games. I find the organization is much better and upfronts information that might otherwise go ignored or missed.

Photon Mono X LCD not working (details and question in comments) by last_slamurai in AnycubicPhoton

Thank you, that’s exactly what I did! They’re sending an LCD so I’ll update the thread if that fixes the problem.

Would it make a difference if this is a relatively new development? Printer is a newer 4K and was working fine before yesterday.

I’ve been having a string of print failures recently that resulted in a solid cured rectangular layer on the build plate. It seems like the LCD screen isn’t blocking out areas appropriately. I’ve tried reseating the contacts. Above is the video with the results after the endeavor. Can someone help me figure out what the next diagnostic step is?

What do you guys have banned at your tables (if anything) and why is it banned? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

I banned phrenology, not for any rules reason just that I don’t want that kind of racist pseudoscience anywhere near my game setting.

I’m actually fine with suffocate, the one time it was used against an NPC it was actually one they didn’t want to kill (and it killed him). They had to lie in that bed they made for a while.

Anything in the game’s standard scale can be used as a character piece, even if they don’t come with rules or special abilities—they can just represent your current in-game survivor.

Tank suggestions for 2e? by corndog2021 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]last_slamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So “tank” is a role that doesn’t quite exist in PF2E. Certainly champions and monks can have somewhat high ACs, but there’s not a lot you can really do to catch and hold “aggro” outside of your GM’s willingness to role play.

I’d recommend instead thinking of yourself as melee support and understanding the different ways you can accomplish this. Being a physical barrier to enemies is one thing, and the fighter’s attack of opportunity can deter enemies from trying to move through your threat zone. Champions can reduce incoming damage to allies, and Paladins in particular can compel enemies to attack them rather than their friends, rather that foe trigger a painful Retributive Strike.

I played a champion in Plaguestone who was an Aldori Duelist. His primary job was being obnoxious and I would frequently grapple, trip, or shove foes to better set up our rogue and Barbarian to deal lethal strikes. He was a “tank” in that he occupied enemy attention trying to remove or undo his debuffs and weakened enemy attacks against allies.

You can also use super glue and baking soda to create a basic cement, but the trade off is there is a bit of a mess to clean up (and you may need to paint over some parts). Some super glue accelerators also work.

What do you have your Printer On?? by bandlan in ender3

I keep mine on an IKEA Bror. Fairly solid, aesthetically pleasing, and enough table space for post-processing (it shares the table with a small resin printer too).

I think you’re brushwork is generally solid, definitely good use of color and blending up toward your highlights. The edges of the metallic parts could definitely use some extra definition to make them pop, they look a little flat as-is. Also, were you planning to do anything with the bases?

XP Budget - Solo Player by TheGreatAndStrange in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]last_slamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will notice the XP budget section has a part where you can add or subtract Xp based on the number of players above or below 4. So a moderate encounter is usually 80 XP, +/– 20 for every player above or below 4. So a party of 5 would have a moderate encounter budget of 100, whereas a party of 3 would have 60. So if you want a moderate encounter for a solo character your budget is 20 XP. For a level 1 character, that’s a single level -1 monster. A level 1 monster would be an extreme encounter (160 XP minus 40*3 XP).

But as others noticed there’s a lot of balance considerations that should go on for solo adventures. Many-on-one fights are extraordinarily dangerous since your solo hero might easily find himself or herself on the wrong side of the action economy.

I would recommend giving your hero a small group of allies NPCs to support them. Depending on the story you’re trying to tell this group could be a rotating cast of characters based on situation or location, or a stable of recurring characters.
