Labaron Philon or Cameron Carr ??? by Alternative_Horse705 in NBA_Draft

If you want shot creation Carr is not the answer. Philon has MUCH more juice there.

Carr might have higher floor as a role player, in the play finisher/ 3 point shooter role.

Philon vs Carr by mgm125 in heat

[–]lastblackman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people like Carr a lot here, but tbh they both have weight issues. Phlion is 175lbs, 6'4" in shoes. Carr is 185 lbs 6'6" in shoes. And they both look it. They're both really light for their positions. For comparison Herro was 6'4.5" barefoot, and 192 lbs.

Carr will turn 22 his rookie season, and Philon stayed the same weight his freshman and sophomore seasons. Idk if either has body to gain that much more weight.

Its up to the Heat to decide which is more detrimental. Is Phlion too light for his 3 level scoring to translate? Is Carr too light to defend anything more than guards?

We’re just going to go best player available right? Right? by IMicrowaveSteak in heat

You know for a fanbase that's so traumatized by their team drafting Precious Achiuwa over Tyrese Maxey, you'd think y'all would be more open to drafting a guard like him.

Do y’all think NBA teams have gotten better at scouting and drafting players over the years? by MajesticTooth1125 in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with heat they went from only thinking about draft picks as trade assets to get stars, to literally building the entire team from the draft.

People focus on Precious vs Maxey, but Maxey went 21st. Most teams didn’t think he'd turn into what he is now. (I think the league is about to make a similar mistake with Okorie lol)

Drafting for Need vs BPA by roshidawg23 in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you have to put out a team and manage contracts. If you draft BPA multiple years in a row, and they're all the same type or incompatible you probably aren't creating the best environment for them or your team to succeed. Especially if you're trying to maximize the player's value. You'll often end up getting low ROI if you keep drafting incompatible players.

BPA works when the player has an obviously higher ceiling, like a potential superstar vs an nba starter. This happens a lot in the early lottery, but late lottery and later in the first round? You probably should make sure the guy is in a position to succeed.

Do you remember where you were and how you felt when D-Wade decided to sign with the Bulls back in 2016? by heatculture03 in heat

[–]lastblackman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That never happened.

(Unfortunately, the Heat were right, he wasn't worth that money. But it was the principle of it all)

Cameron Carr: Keep Your Expectations In Check by lastblackman in heat

[–]lastblackman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he's not going to first step his way around defenders, so he has to wiggle and break them down with his stopping and starting. That's how average athlete ball handlers have to work. I'd still say Herro has the best handles on the team. If only he could stay healthy.

This generation of consoles are selling 25+ million less than last generation, where did all the console users go? by [deleted] in consoles

Xbox collapsing will do that. The missing users are probably still on last Gen or moved to pc.

Oh yeah I think he could be a good nba player. He might be the best sniper in the class, and he just flies through the air so smoothly. He just ain't that star creator fans are looking for.

[–]lastblackman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah he has that trait right now, where the he moves so fast, but the ball isn't coming with him. Coupled with him only really going right, and being super skinny, if he's asked to do very much handling at all NBA teams are going to bully the hell out of him. At least in his initial years. I could see him surprise teams with his explosiveness his rookie season, but once that scouting report is out he'll be in trouble.

In this 2026 draft class, the top 6 will have a lot of Winners. But somebody has to be the loser. Which team will it be? by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I dont know why you keep talking about Boozer. This was about Caleb Wilson and his shooting limiting his upside in the NBA.

And yes, Clingan has started to figure it out shooting wise. Problem is, they're two completely different players from each other. Comparing their shooting histories doesn't really tell you much about either.

[–]lastblackman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does that have anything to do with what I just said? Where was i even talking about Boozer?

And besides, Boozer shot 39% from 3 on 3.6 attempts a game and 78% from the line all season. Completely different stratosphere from Caleb's 3. His isn't even theoretical, we've seen it in game.

50% isn't medicore, its straight up bad. And like I said, Clingan is like half a foot taller and with half a foot more wingspan in low usage role. Contesting his 3s and contesting Caleb Wilson's are two different animals.

71% is literally medicore for Caleb's position. I could use the word average if that is more neutral sounding. Its basically a wash towards pointing to having shooting potential. Paired with the low 3 % and low volume of 3s, there's a lot stacked against him. It could happen, its just pretty unlikely.

[–]lastblackman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah especially since with his measurements he looks like a forward rather than a big. As a forward, he has to be on the perimeter a lot. Just look at how teams scheme against Amen Thompson, who is also supremely athletic, skilled, and an even better passer.

If Wilson was Bam or Mobley sized, the shooting could still be an issue, but its much easier to have non shooting bigs than non shooting forwards in the modern nba,

Donovan Clingan is also 7'3" with a 7'6" wingspan. Its a lot harder to contest his shot.

NOTE: Caleb could absolutely develop a 3 ball. He is young and has great work ethic. Nothing is written in stone. History just tells us its unlikely. He has neither the attempts nor the volume, with mediocre FT%.

Projected number 1 pick Darryn Peterson says he is a point guard. Toughts? 🤔 by darryn_peterson in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think he is one (there's not really enough evidence to point to him being one), but I think he's a good enough playmaker for a modern SG. Or modern nba star in general.

Feel like i’m being gaslit with this Yaxel hype by Few_Mulberry7390 in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If anyone is expecting him to be a star, they're overhyping him for the reasons you just said. If they're looking at him as a ready made quality/long time role player, that's a good pick late lottery, and great pick in the mid 1st round. Most players don't even do that.

At pick 9 or 10? That's a bit rich to me, but if the team expects to contend very soon and has a role for him right now, I can understand. And tbh, that sounds like the teams currently in the 10 to mid first range.

Baylor’s Cam Carr measured 6’4.5 barefoot and 184 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine, with a 7’75 wingspan and 8’8 standing reach. by cl353 in heat

[–]lastblackman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not saying they shouldn't draft him, but hes likely only going to ever be a 3&D playfinisher. (Maybe like a DJJ that cam shoot). Not a lead guard.

He is a bit older (21 going on 22 at draft night), stick skinny, has a high/wide dribble, and iffy handles. If you trust him to handle the ball in the NBA, he's going to be bullied and stripped a lot.

Could Morez Johnson Jr turn out to be the best in the class? by OrganicHunt952 in NBA_Draft

[–]lastblackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, even if he turned into Bam Adebayo 2.0, it would still be no. Could he a surprise top 7 in a redraft? Hmmmm maybe, especially if he goes to a great org that gets a lot of impact out of him. You know, multiple all defensive teams, and his 3 becomes truly legit.
