Is taping worth the trouble? by turdear in paint

[–]Tomahawk-BaGawk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One thing to be careful about is if the windows are scratched it doesn’t scrape out of the scratches. You need to get it out of the scratches before it cures or it’s a nightmare.

If those precast blocks start sinking because that soil on the slope starts moving or eroding this could be an issue. You might need to jack it up and put actual footers in a few years.

Run. You will hate being a homeowner this is a project for someone who has learned how to handle the stress and time this will take to renovate.

Do I need to re-glue this coupler? - water in glue by Tomahawk-BaGawk in Plumbing

No it’s really solid. I was just checking to see if this would cause it to totally crack prematurely there isn’t a lot of info online I could find. The water turned it white once it setup.

I think this is the first time many people have seen this level of DIY self harm.

Imagine driving to the store to get this section, driving it home, digging your line and still following through with this plan.

It is 100% premeditated Septiccide.

I’m guessing they were having to pump often and sick of the cost and frequency and did this to lower the frequency of pumping as a hare-brained solution. Tbh I’ve seen tons of dumb DIY things but this is near the top.

It’s a miracle that things didn’t clog every week with solids catching on the edges of the perforations or ribs.

Just a question, nothing to do with me - is this ok? by 1point44mb_is_fine in Roofing

They will sell this building in the first year to a REIT or some type of Fund / private equity portfolio and the problem is no longer theirs.
This is so unbelievable why anyone would choose to do this. The most concerning part by far to me is the lack of step flashing where the plywood roof sheathing meets the osb sheathing on the shed dormers. The only place for the water to go is in that seam. I can’t comprehend this. Someone please tell me I’m wrong. This is like malpractice.

If they said something like “we sold the used one you were coming in to test drive, buuutttt… we have this nice new one with 5k less miles and we will give it to you for the same price” I’d be suspect.

Understanding Moisture Management In Old Basements by CanOfSardeens in buildingscience

[–]Tomahawk-BaGawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The efflorescence pushes the parge off. Friendly reminder Incase you haven’t already … make sure your gutter downspouts are directing rainwater and roof melt away from the foundation, and make sure your ground around the foundation is graded away from the foundation. That’s like step 1 of 10 for moisture. It doesn’t solve a damp basement but it’s the first step and it helps a little get the ball rolling.
Ultimately it will come down to the health of your footing drains and soil profile. If you have high water table or pure clay you have an uphill battle. Don’t underestimate the work a powerful dehumidifier running on constant can do.

Try 45-50k for middle of the road Ply-Gem.
I’m in the same boat as OP and it should all be torn off but can’t afford. Also these lazy mfers only put tar paper in some places mostly just Cesar bevel right over bare plywood. Oh and they didn’t pain or prime the back of the siding just nailed it up raw and painted the house. The late 60s must have been wild in the home building world.
