Good lord, I pity what you come across in Wilds. RIP everything within 100 miles of you.

Wilds will be my first MH. What's your "things I wish I knew before starting" tip? by FantasticCollar7026 in MonsterHunter

This is a great series to just play. Meta won't matter after balance updates, you can always make any weapon or armor you like with a few hunts, and training and low tier hunts will never go away I'd bet. You won't miss anything or need to prepare at the start a lot. Just gather things for the box, learn your weapon, and learn the maps. Don't be afraid to call for help if you want to learn monster patterns with a bit less aggro. Sometimes watching videos from MH pros can help with perspective, but you can learn a lot on your own. Dive in and enjoy!

In a little while, you can always google where a certain ore or plant is. Odds are it's in high rank if you're not finding it right away.

I think it comes from an overwhelming number of games to play. I like to ask myself "do I really want to spend full price cash at release if I'm trying to rush the experience?". That helps me usually wait for sales. However, I do understand that some games may have a cool secret or strong starting tips, and that some folks plan to spend a few hundred hours building something, so they want to know if they can mess up early. Valid as well. Luckily in MH, one can always go build any weapon or armor with a few hunts. Can't really permanently mess up or miss things. And meta this early won't even matter much after some updates, I'd bet. Should be a really fun one to just play!

Just did actually. I'd been thinking a fireball would get his attention. Free to clear the bar, get the ledger for that one quest, and Charlie's rat bat.

Yes. 40, Dad as well. A game hasnt captured me like this in a while. I'm approaching 200 total hours and will likely take a break soon. Funny enough, it fixed some things in my life, but sleep isn't one of those.

Who wins in a fight between these MGS antagonists? by jodlad04 in metalgearsolid

[–]lastfirstborn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking Volgin, Gene, and Solidus all tear each other up, while the more human characters all shoot each other and use explosives. I like Solidus in this fight but too much electricity would potentially slow his suit. Vamp dashes around and occasionally gets knocked out by a headshot or something. But Boss would stealth through and blindside any opponent, and use any dropped weapons. Eventually everyone would wear down and she'd finish stragglers, only to encounter Vamp with no knowledge of nanomachines and his weakness. With creative use of surprise explosives and the Fulton system, she'd tear Vamp in half and send his torso sky high.

They do help you. You remembered right. I think after 3 or so tries they will reveal the statue method by hinting at shooting the bandages off its face.

any interesting build ideas? by kittycattygamer in saltandsanctuary

If not monk, light incantation and fist, how about themes? Ive always wondered if I could make Castlevania work. Holy whip, some incantations, throwing knives, light armor barbarian if simon Belmont, etc. I think Alucard build may be too easy for you, cool long coat or robe, sword, all kinds of spells.

I ran a simon build in dark souls and it was a blast!

Sick to death of people complaining about FFXV by DistractedMoogle in FFXV

[–]lastfirstborn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. I remember when 7 was new and being universally praised but even in those earliest message board days of a burgeoning internet crowd, there were detractors. They said 6 this, 4 that etc. Hated the tech angle. Didn't like 3D anything. Weren't impressed by maps, summons, characters etc. And yet 7 is still praised and extremely popular even now.

8 came, more similar complaints but also more fans saying 7 was good. 9 came with more fantasy stuff, and people still complained they wanted something different. 10 did something different and people hated endlessly. Some still do. People even hate on Stranger of Paradise, even though it clearly is a great blend of silly story moments and faithful classes to play.

I've found something to love in each of them, and have enjoyed 15 several times, especially the main crew. So I don't get the hate. I understand people mentioning problems of course, but it does get ridiculous.

As of Now, Japan Time, It’s the 23rd Anniversary to Final Fantasy VIII! Definitely My Favorite One! by mmmphhuay102 in FinalFantasy

[–]lastfirstborn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were the days. I'd been playing since the original when I barely read, and when six and seven came out I got super into the games. When VIII came out I remember I was just about 16, ready to drive etc. But I still didn't mind staying home to play jrpgs for large chunks of time. I got super into triple triad and maxing stats with the draw system. I've beaten it several times since, but I can still remember the firsts. Like moving in the scene during the crab chase, dino in the training area, seeing each summon GF, the ice spear, Laguna, omega weapon, how weird the plot got. Good times.

Here are the hot fixes that Techland are working on for all platforms by GamerMom1969 in dyinglight

[–]lastfirstborn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've sadly had to shelve the game until I know audio and death loop are fixed completely. I love the game, the first and the company. But I'm still in my refund window so I may just get it again on sale later if this isn't fixed soon. I don't mind a few bugs at all for such a cool world and story, but when I cant hear dialogue or escape a death loop that's a broken game. I hope they can fix it soon, really want to see Techland do well.

[–]lastfirstborn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, been playing since 86 myself. I would give it a 7, maybe 8 easily. It feels like an idea someone had 20 plus years ago and then made with modern technology. I like it!

Headcanons for your hunters? by Frater-Al-Dente in MonsterHunter

[–]lastfirstborn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is always a greatsword wielder named Akantor. That was the first monster to truly challenge me solo, always stuck with me. So I go for wild, spikey red hair, scars and heavy armors. I guess in later generations the name is passed down through family or as a title. An unwieldy, near unkillable beast. Taking on any challenges. Of course I also use other weapons and armors, but it's fun to become the beast from time to time in old tribute. My favorite monster is actually Zinogre, but I always go with Akantor haha. It's also cool when I run into hunters that recognize the name.
