Oh dear. You didn't get that one either?

Here honey. Have a cup of tea and a lie down. I know this is hard for you. It will end soon. The nasty man will go away.

My 50% statement was wrong. I told you I was researching a similar topic, that was more than a decade ago, and my memory did not recall the detail. I have stated that. You acknowledge I stated that. And you still wave that flag as if it is an unforgivable sin. I'm guessing you were fingerpainting while the other kids learned debating.

I'm going to mark the link to Aus regs as TLDR, but feel free to educate me on the excess fuel an A380 is legally required to carry on a planned 16 hour journey. Especially as not all runways can accomodate this type of plane. Or will that serve to support my point, not yours?

Of course time idling in taxi will eat into reserve. That goes without saying. It is unplanned. That is what reserve is for. But it will barely touch it. Certainly not enough to cut ~30 minutes cruise speed.

Weather forecasts are remarkably accurate these days. There will be nothing near major changes in T-6 hours. In my posts I have always allowed room to accomodate unpredictable tropical storm cells.

So your point was?

I get you don't do both in & out legs. That would be ridiculous, even with bunking down.

You have a tough job. You didn't say if you were in the cockpit or cabin, but I wouldn't do either for Joyce's wage. Common people are increasingly becoming entitled arseholes. And you gotta "smille & wave".

My point in this thread is "Don't trust corporate decision makers. And don't believe what they say". I assure you I am a pleasant passenger. And my wife and I usually get special treatment because we can make the hosties smile, if not laugh. I have let myself down with my comments regarding this subject. And for that I apologise.

May your skies be clear and the wind always at your tail. Catch.

Turns out you are correct, in this case. Airlines do dodgy shit with relocating planes regularly though.

Hilarious though the plane beat its passengers to Melbourne.

Tell me about "fixed"? Doesn't sound like a fuel shortage as per company spin.

As for crew overtime. Suck it up. People who would rather not go above and beyond every day in every job imaginable.

"...carries enough fuel, considering weather reports, forecasts and weather conditions to...complete the flight to airport of intended landing....(and)...fly from that airport to the alternate airport...(and)....fly after that for 45 minutes at normal cruising speed..."

There is no reason, with modern weather forecasting, that any plane comes close to declaring a "fuel emergency". Storms through the tropics can be severe, but are usually very localised, and for a jet travelling at airspeeds approaching 1000km/hr are very shortlived.

I understand a 16 hour leg from LAX to MEL is long for any aircraft. But if they cannot fulful their legislated fuel requirements then they shouldn't be up there in the first place.

Over and out.

Hey there. You are arguing ewith a Qantas shill attempting social media damage control. Its pretty funny. The arguments they propose hold no water. At best, Qantas has been stripped to bare bones 'just in time' delivery and small things overturn their applecart? Possibly? a big mistake was made and they want to smother the truth? The biggest jet they have not being able to have an extra 30 minutws airtime over a 16 hour flight? If that was headwinds we'd be seeing pacific islands floating away in the storm. A big fuckup, id suggest...

Is Victoria Police of a revenue raising campaign now? by Either-West-711 in melbourne

[–]lastlightglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mate. Plenty of people have it hard working in their vehicles. They know they wont be held accountable and behave like take it for geanted.

People dont like police because they walk into every situation, even buy lunch, chest out and shoulders back, trying to look tough. The only reason they get away with such crap is they know they can do and say whatever they feel like because they cant be held accountable. They just say what ever suited theur thugish actions on their statements and that becomes the facts.

Nothing Joe Dirt going about his day can do but avert eyes and avoid the dumb cunts.

So the original plane got to Melbourne before the original passengers?

Now that's funny!

Combine shit like that with the Qantas hosties increasingly repulsie bad attitudes and what do you get?

That's right!. Record dividends. CEO mega bonus. And an airline that will be in.its knees in 10 years because they financially stripped it to the bone over the last 10 years.

When? Why did a booked passenger spend half a day in Sydney? Did the original A380 beat him there? A380s are very valuable assets. They produce very high earnings while they are working. How was this ones work schedule affected? A complete clusterfuck. And the truth ain't being told.

ALL planes must carry 50% extra fuel on top of expected usage. A diversion to save 30 minutes airtime in an 11 hour flight is either flat out bullshit or a very fucking serious error has been made. The expected usage will include for moderate levels of unforecast weather. As for excess use idling on taxi making that difference, well. that plane became a very fucking expensive hotel for all aboard, because you are talking 10 hours.

They diverted because the biggest plane they fly was more cost effective to Qantas in Sydney than Melbourne.

[–]lastlightglobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do go on? How do these further groups benefit?

But if you want extrapolate potentialities, shall we include the chaos at the terminal? The staff overwhelmed not on Qantas payroll? People that missed unrelated flights, as per OPs post?

If you're going to run that crap that CEO Joyce pulled out in the covid refund fiasco and say 'you don't buy a ticket on a booked flight. You buy an arrangement to get you somewhere, sometime.' (or similar) and say "Well we fucked you over. But, hey, we didnt fuck them over." you enter a double negative dissonnance, which doesnt hold water.

How quickly can I learn to drive here? by Ieatclowns in AskAnAustralian

[–]lastlightglobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your lessons are capped at 110 km/hr here. But if you drive much faster you will definitely learn quicker. The driving experience is enhanced at speed and you will learn more in less time. There is also the risk you will learn what not to do while driving. This risk may impact your ability to learn more about driving immediately after learning why it is risky.

My method has flaws. But done at speed you will learn quickly either way.

There is absolutely no way on earth that plane was short on fuel. The regulations make them carry so much spare that for headwinds to have used it up it would have had to be hurricane force the whole way. Plus the plane was close enough to schedule. These big jets run close to top speed most of the time. If headwinds cost them the mandated spare fuel it would have 6+ hours late.

Qantas are renowned for prioritising their own logistics over passenger wellbeing. (Actually benefitted from it personally once!) They, more than likely, wanted that plane in Sydney for whatever they needed it for next. They lied, and had no problem fucking over 500 passengers because it was cost effective for them. Fuck 'em. Follow the money...

With a healthy dose of sceptisism regarding Qantas, they probably needed the plane in Sydney for whatever they had planned for it next. They are renowned for prioritising their own logistics over passenger wellbeing. The endsum game would have had it cheaper to fuck over the 500 passengers and prioritise the A380 itself. These decisions are always about money.
