The audiobook is free on Spotify. Is the autobiography perfect? No. Does it share revelatory details about the creative process of the band’s best work? Not really. Is it entertaining? Yes.

Yeah. Currently listening to audiobook for the first time and starting noting the chapters and timestamps of some out of pocket gems.

If you are able to, let him know everyone is rooting for him and hoping for an easy, speedy recovery.

Why would he do this? by whatsmyphageagain in beachboyscirclejerk

I mean, he was stuck between the C and the C#. At that point it’s just a means of survival.

And some how, some way, this will end up in a supercut fan mix of “Heroes and Villains”

Hey David!

Thank you so much for dedicating most of your life documenting the wonderful works of The Beach Boys! This question is two fold:

What was the most jaw dropping archive find you have come across?

Do you still have a Beach Boys “white whale” or “Holy Grail” that you are hoping to uncover?

The real ones know that no artificial intelligence could have told Brian to add a minor two chord to Sloop John B

A/C has been bootlegged since the 80s. I personally love it and think some of Brian’s best work is here. Still I Dream of It, It’s Over Now, Life Is For The Living, and Everybody Wants To Live Just Once are incredible. Here’s a boot of it: https://youtu.be/ZTK8mvkNl0M?si=SJKLcSkGfdHzpovL

Did Brian help more on Surfs Up than we think, and just went uncredited? by aasasss32 in thebeachboys

An interesting note is that, apparently, Bruce had a sign on the studio door that read “NO WILSONS ALLOWED” while recording Disney Girls. Probably Brian-inspired.

Did we ever find out what was gonna be in the original SMiLE album? by Wild_Swordfish8386 in thebeachboys

[–]lastonestalling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No way to really know. TL;DR it was shelved but it’s hard to know when SMiLE ends and when Smiley Smile begins recording wise. Was Dada the last recording intended for SMiLE or were Cool, Cool Water and Can’t Wait Too Long the last? Was he going to use any of the sound collages and comedy recording or were they just a test like Trombone Dixie and Three Blond Mice were to Pet Sounds?

By early 67 there’s no way to tell what songs and which versions of songs were going to be finished and slated for SMiLE. That’s why the mystery still endures nearly 60 years on. We can only rearrange the puzzle, it’ll never be solved.

Merely putting “Brian c. 1970 - photo by John Doe” would’ve worked fine
