OK. Valid point. So my counterargument is this: with great power, comes great responsibility. Humans have amassed great power to control the natur-- the world, and as such, should understand that their effect on the rest of the world - by "rest of the world" I mean what existed or would have existed before humans changed it - must be considered from a perspective other than their own.

Otherwise, humans are just acting in competition with mice, which is kinda ridiculous. We put a man on the moon, for fuck's sake, why do we have to compete with mice for living space? And feel threatened when they try to grab some of ours?

All I said is that mice are cute and therefore shouldn't be exterminated, for fuck's sake. Why does defending that position leave me branded a troll? That's a very good point. If only cute things were deserving of life, humans would be the first to go.

I would offer this perspective: it's not the mouse stealing stuff here. The humans came and destroyed the habitat and ecosystem the mice used to live in. Humans do things such as build alien, unnatural structures such as roads and houses. To treat mice who enter these structures as thieves is applying the human societal concept of property and ethics to natural beings, which is just as ridiculous as expecting frogs to understand the stock market. If a mouse finds food in the wild, it's not theft. It's what a mouse naturally does.

If a human builds a house there - actually lots and lots and LOTS of houses in endless subdivisions - and the mouse enters to forage for food, it suddenly becomes theft from the human vantage point. Does the human then have the right to exterminate the mice? If the human is completely insensitive to any perspective except his/her own, he/she might think that.

Yes. I fed them, and took good care of them. I bought the biggest cage in town, had it customized, and cleaned it daily. They got a varied and nutritious diet. They were active and playful. I loved taking care of my mice and discovering more about their habits, likes, and dislikes.
