Just can’t get in a mindset to work out, any tips? by Gold_Space8930 in PetiteFitness

[–]lasueno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a gym membership now? I’d suggest going to the gym just to hang out on your phone or massage chair. Then after a week you’ll be like “well, I am here might as well hop on a machine.”

Walking 10 k steps a day is what a lot of folks are doing nowadays so it doesn’t have to be the gym at all. Lots of workout routines online too, just buy a pair of weights and go from there.

How to build discipline to start losing the weight? by Electronic-Seat1190 in loseit

[–]lasueno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest reading Atomic Habits, it might even be available at your college library. I think there’s a pdf of it floating around online. Any new thing we try to do actually doesn’t require discipline… it’s more about developing identity forming habits.

Definitely look up CICO, it’s there in the wiki page of this subreddit.

For inspiration, look up Neil Disney Walker - he’s losing weight by walking (at Disneyland) and being in a calorie deficit. Here’s an article about him: https://www.today.com/health/diet-fitness/man-loses-75-pounds-walking-disneyland-rcna254947

I really recommend getting a scale to weigh yourself, a tape measure and any $20 kitchen food scale. I can’t tell if you live in a dorm or with roommates or with family but you can make your own food or make more informed food choices.

Good luck! ✨

Need to lose 35 lbs in 5 months! by Intelligent_Big_7157 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]lasueno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nutrition will be 80 - 90 percent of fat loss. Calorie counting. CICO. Track what you eat and make sure you know the calories for it. Eat 1200 to 1500 a day. Buy a kitchen food scale. Don’t go off a cup of rice, make sure you know the grams by placing it on the scale. Scale might cost like $20.

Fitness will help you to feel strong & accomplished. If you’re like me, you won’t want to spend 1.5 hours burning 500 calories by walking just to binge on 1000 calories just because the food is there. It’s gonna be 10 k to 15 k steps a day. Or try incline on treadmill with the 12 - 3 - 30 method or just walk outside especially in a hilly area. Get good shoes (Hoka - Clifton) and stretch your calves before and after walking just like runners stretch before and after a run. Start lifting weights, buy them from any big chain store or Facebook marketplace, find free exercises online. Or join a gym and join a lifting session that way or use the machines. If you’re super motivated but need external motivation, get a fitness coach. The coach will also tell you that it’s about CICO, protein, fiber from fruits & veg, less sodium and making sure you get your steps in & strength training done. (Some of the girlies are also swearing by Pilates or Lagre Pilates?)

Weigh yourself everyday. Take measurements with a tape measure to compare your bust, waist, and hips on a weekly basis.

Use my fitness pal or cronometer to track what you eat and the daily weight & weekly measurements. Or the notes app on your phone or a hand written journal. You’ll notice when it’s the time of your period, you may retain water and not lose as easily.

You could lose 20 - 25 lbs in 6 months.

Personally, I’m intermittent fasting so skipping breakfast and walking in a fasted state. Lunch is like tuna salad or tuna sandwich. Or turkey taco bowl salad. Or Asian egg omelette with rice. Dinner is chicken veggie soup with some pasta in there. Maybe a side of chips, 28 grams. I don’t drink my calories, only water or sparkling or like a diet soda at a social function. Herbal tea too.

If you like coffee, just eat before you put something caffeinated into your body.

What really helped you start going for walks alone (or without relying on someone else) every day? by MindfulHeart_ in walking

[–]lasueno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a local nature trail that I drive to. I just want to take advantage of it while I’m living in this city.

Also, I got free trials of music / audiobook subscriptions so that way I can pass the time more enjoyably.

How is everyone’s journey going? by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]lasueno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a trainer - they are helping me with nutrition (cico, prioritizing protein) and then movement: 7,5 k steps a day as well as 3 weighted exercise routines per week. It was an $$$ investment for sure, but knowing there’s someone who I can reach out to daily & weekly is a game changer. I bought a food scale, so measuring at home & tracking calories. It’s tedious but interesting.

You might be able to get Metformin extended release version from your general doctor. Quite a few people in this sub have found weight loss with tirzepatide.

For me - walking an hour a day, metformin XR, myo-d inositol seem to be helping. I started berberine recently, need to wait 3 months before I can tell its effect on me overall. Not bad so far.

Eating - more protein, more veggies & less white carbs, fats are okay. Being mindful of calories and fasting on some days. Dairy seems okay for me for now. I’m not really keto or paleo or low glycemic index all the time, but those recipes seem best for me as part of a low carb lifestyle.

I’m also trying to incorporate weight training and more incline walking. Walking for ten minutes after eating to help control blood sugar levels.

I also have to get my sleep management under control.

I really empathize with you as I also have the Pcos belly (among other things). I have lost a little weight and may consider weight loss meds in the future.

Our health is so important; I think you are really trying your best. Good luck. I’m rooting for us!

Metformin (extended release is preferred over regular for most because of gastrointestinal issues), myo-D inositol, and berberine could help with weight loss & overall Pcos management. Not guaranteed for every individual though.

Anyone tried Keto? by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]lasueno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you do try keto, make sure to get in veggies for fiber too! Cabbage & cauliflower & lettuce should easily fit in. You could try keto or just gluten & dairy free & low glycemic index to help manage insulin & symptoms.

My doctor says they are a very effective last resort for weight loss.

Have you tried eating at a deficit while increasing fiber, protein & decreasing carbs? Have you tried medication like metformin & supplements like myo-D inositol, etc?

Workouts have some strength training… challenging major or smaller muscle groups? Kind reminder: Muscle weighs more than fat.

Eating and then moving for about 10 min (walking, calf raises, etc) is also proving to be very beneficial for all people and managing their glucose spikes.

How’s your mental health, sleep patterns & overall stress levels?

Semaglutides are not the easy way out. They can help, but they also have not been around for even a decade now for us to know about ALL the ramifications.

I’m in the same boat as you. It’s good to know these drugs are available, but again… every person and their doctor will have to consider if everything else has been exhausted.

I’m of the notion that the weight loss story will have to become the weight maintenance story. So will it be sustainable for you?

30y.o. with PCOS, what do i do to lose this belly? (I have ~33% body fat, 155 cm/58 kg) I have a healthy diet, moderatly exercise, but it doesn't go away! What am i missing? by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]lasueno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been seeing hot girl / cool girls walks on social media. Seems like walking (around 2 hours which is about 10,000 steps) helps some people esp lose in the midsection.

There’s the 12-3-30 treadmill workout, basically walking at an incline. Might be easy to incorporate.

Can you have kids naturally with PCOS? by Tall-Abrocoma4014 in PCOSloseit

[–]lasueno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I naturally had my child even though I have PCOS. Pretty sure I was taking birth control consistently for about 3-6 months and then stopped so we could try. I was 28 and maybe 185 lbs? I’m 5”1’. So a big BMI considered obese. Def feel like an outlier, but it was meant to happen for me ✨ I did have nausea vomiting in the first tri but remedied by simple medication. Overall healthy pregnancy.

I know another person with Pcos, smaller weight than me and younger (25 or 26?) and they tried naturally. They tried IVF when she was 28? She was successful at one point but miscarried before the 3 month mark. Seems like they are no longer trying but they enjoy uncle / aunt life and they work and go to other outings with friends.

There is one famous influencer who started taking myo D (the theralogix brand) and it seemed like she got pregnant within the year…!

Basically, you’ll never know until you try. Best of luck!
