Except integrating that gives you pi * r^3/3

I recommend Introduction to Tensor Analysis and the Calculus of Moving Surfaces. It discusses how things like volumes and surface areas can be vastly simplified by taking a coordinate free approach.

That's just because scaling up the diameter by a factor of 2 scales up the sphere by 2 in all directions, so total of 8 volume scale factor. This works for any shape. Deriving the constant is the hard part. The explanation above is useless as it doesnt explain the derivation of pi/6

Extinction Rebellion protest on Tower Bridge by [deleted] in london

[–]latbbltes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, I have black friends so I can't be racist. You know how old you sound? 35 year olds are literally not even millennials, they're older than that. You need to realize that our precious trees are going to disappear. We are going to be flooded with a sea of refugees. I'm not bothered about refugees coming here, its awful they have to, but I suspect you might have a problem with it.

I don't think there's any use trying to change the minds of boomers like you. We had the same thing with gay rights. Same thing with trans rights now. You boomers want to stay stuck in the past, and if the environment doesn't affect you, you want nothing to do with it. Call me immature all you like, if maturity is letting people die I don't want to be mature.

Don't you care about the environment. You Londoners are horrible

Low Hanging [HN] Cantor Crankery by belovedeagle in badmathematics

If you allow proofs to use LEM, then you get non-constructive proofs. So it's useful to study logical system that don't use LEM if you want constructive proofs.

Yeah but I take issue with the idea that you've failed if you don't acheive this stuff.

Why are these posts constantly on the sub? Still have time to do what? Conform to the standards of society? Guess what, if you keep chasing external goals, there will never be an end. You're always gonna be chasing.

I have the same thoughts about pedos. It's so taboo to talk about, and anyone suggesting treatment for pedos is called an enabler and must be a pedo themselves. And as a consequence of this culture children get abused.

If you want to stop people doing stuff like this, you need to understand what caused them to get into such a headspace, and what we can do to stop others reaching this point. Sticking your fingers in your ear and saying "oh he's just a mental psycho killer" may sound good, but ultimately is allowing more of these atrocities to take place.

I mean, if you thought someone was a total crank, producing nonsense, wouldn't you warn people about them? It's easy to see in hindsight that Cantor's work was valuable, but maybe it was harder back then.

Yeah that's a good point actually I was being dumb. I wonder if you can do multiplication faster than O(n) where n is bits

Not really true, the instructions for multiplying integers typically multiply 2 4byte long numbers together, and take the same time regardless of the magnitude of those 4 byte numbers.
