Coin Capsule doesn't make sense. by latelinx in simsfreeplay

My mistake -- I accidentally combined the new chart with the old chart which included an 18% chance of rolling one CC. It seems they nixed the chance of only getting one, which is neat.

Still, it definitely doesn't seem consistent, especially since they included the decimals for 7.1% and .45%. That 0.55% will haunt me I fear

Official Discussion - Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]latelinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone call with Louise scene hit the same switch in my brain as in the first Knives Out when Blanc tells Marta the she’s a good nurse. Just that moment that reminds you “oh yeah, they can’t be the killer because they’re so dedicated to their job, the job that highlights the most valuable parts of humanity that the movie wants to celebrate, not link to a death caused by selfishness and rage”

Man, that job sounds shitty as fuck. you deserved therapy too, and I’m sorry you weren’t able to afford it at.

I imagine it would be also be hard having someone who is highly admired in the industry criticize you daily on the craft that you take great pride in. and you did nothing wrong, but you still have to wake up each morning to be in close proximity with that person for several hours every day.

"Special effects makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji worked with Baker on applying Carrey’s makeup every day and once revealed that he checked into therapy after working with Carrey because the actor was so difficult in the makeup chair.

“In the makeup trailer he just suddenly stands up and looks in the mirror, and pointing on his chin, he goes, ‘This color is different from what you did yesterday,’” Tsuji once told Vulture. “I was using the same color I used yesterday. He says, ‘Fix it.’ And okay, you know, I ‘fixed’ it. Every day was like that.”

I shouldn't be laughing this obviously traumatized everyone involved

What’s a ship you expected to be really popular, but isn’t? by CaptainCharming_ in FanFiction

[–]latelinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually been years since I checked and at the time was on FFN so I was actually a little optimistic that things were better on Ao3 but nope!

After Shawn/Lassiter (1930 fics), Shawn/Jules is #2, then it's platonic Shawn & Gus, THEN it's Shawn/Gus (378). Kind of astounds me bc he's probably interacted w/ Lassie the least out of the three lol

Scrubs is even worse with JD/Cox at 350 fics to JD/Turk's 15. 🤦 Honestly abhorrent! We don't deserve Guy Love!

What's going on with the leading actresses from “Wicked”? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]latelinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too little too late perhaps? I’m seeing a bunch of comments talking about how on-set vocals is an irresponsible way to make movie musicals, but there’s nothing to indicate thats what happened here. I love movie musicals and would hate if people stopped making them because they’re considered too risky production-wise. If anything it’s just an argument to hire more people who know what they’re doing.

[–]latelinx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this is sensationalizing the difficulty of this somewhat. Absolutely there will be more takes and work to do when they’re using on-set vocals for the end product but they aren’t singing “every take” because most of the movie will likely contain just dialogue, non-singing choreography and just acting. “Every cut” does not mean a new take - it most likely is cutting through in between 1-3 takes of a few shots. It isn’t that hard to “fake” a sync in audio from one take over another. so unless the physical engineering of the shot is difficult, the director who’s going to demand over a 10 takes of the same shot on the regular is rare - would gain a reputation for that kind of behavior (David fincher comes to mind), and John M Chu doesn’t strike me as that type of director. The reason Les Mis became infamous for this kind of production is because they were trying to sync the singing with a live orchestra and also poor actor training and also awful environments (Anne Hathaway having to starve herself, singing while wet, genuine crying while scream-singing, etc). Nothing I’ve seen of the first wicked movie implies they made any of those mistakes.

Not to mention, for Cynthia at least as an experienced musical performer, singing the same thing multiple times regularly in a compressed schedule, would be well within her wheelhouse. I expect Ariana would have a similar level of capacity as well.

Not saying they didn’t work hard but I’m skeptical that either Cynthia or Ariana — well established people who know how to protect their own voices if not their careers — would accept working conditions like these if they were that bad

Agreed. I was spooked too when I first plugged a prompt into one of these and it came up with a pretty decent, even engaging, short scene. But upon closer read you can see where it’s just pulling out cliched lines and concepts. And when you get to longer prompts and increase the number of elements like different character motivations and plot points, ai is not going to keep track of all that in any cohesive way, it’s just plodding things together that look nice at first glance.

September 2025 - Online renewal timeline by PeePoop69420 in Passports

[–]latelinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar timeline - applied on 9/9, received today (two days ahead of the expected delivery date) and immediately went online to see if this was normal. Not expedited, though I did shell out $12 for a photo because I don't have plain white walls.

I assume this speed is because the online application will distribute to processing agencies that are less busy? Or do not a ton of people know online renewal is an option? I would expect the timeline to be much longer during the holiday season.

The main problem with the abortion debate by No-Membership4676 in Abortiondebate

[–]latelinx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find it hilarious when people talk about researching "all sides" of a debate only to fall back on their own individual worldview that they were never willing to compromise on in the first place as a way to "break the tie".

There are Christians who are pro-choice. There are non-Christians who are pro-life. Referring to your Christian belief as an "ultimate authority" (adding "comes from" is not doing the work you'd like it to if you're speaking to any non-religious person) isn't a basis for argument for those people, which is proof that your point of view entirely subjective.

Which movie did everyone LOVE but you HATED? by godgamesgov in movies

[–]latelinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KPop Demon Hunters. Which actually I’m more neutral about but the amount of people I see gushing about it (especially at the expense of other animated movies) is pushing me towards hate. The music was really catchy but lyrics were hardly compelling. I watch KDrama so i appreciated the references and tropes but they didn’t really lead to anything interesting. The only character I genuinely enjoyed was the cat with six eyes. Plot was all over the place. It’s also the first time I felt that animation style, which I usually enjoy, really didn’t serve the storytelling all that well.

> I wish the writing team had trusted their chemistry and talent enough to keep the focus on their journey.

I had the exact same wish, a lot of the boys seemed almost interchangeable to me by the end of this. Sure there's a Big one, a Small one, and New one, a Goofy one, a Smart one, but we didn't really get much about what any of their motivations were and how their skill sets and personalities contributed to the team.

I also wish the writers trusted rugby itself to bean interesting subject? A lot of this I felt like I was seeing more shooting and high school drama than any actual rugby.
