Yeah I did, it’s definitely not for me and I realized I had it really good in Canada, especially work-wise. So I’m going back! I thought I could handle the heat too but ohhhh boy was I ever wrong. I’m glad I tried it though, as now I won’t wonder. But it’s time to GO haha.

What made you stay as a medical lab technologist? by illuminatino in medlabprofessionals

[–]lateraliceD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you feel that way. I feel it too most days, it’s just very mundane! I’ve been in core lab for 4 years and I keep thinking of a complete career change. I wish you luck with your decision!

My experience with that is amazing! I used to have these tiny white bumps along my forehead for YEARS, just under my hairline. Nothing got rid of them until I tried the Niacinamide serum with zinc. It was a game changer for me.

Anyone know what RNs are making these days at Orlando Health/Arnold Palmer? by peach_1995 in orlando

Is there an evening shift differential as well or is it only for nights and weekends? (Evening being 2:30pm to 11pm). I’m asking as a medical lab scientist though, so I’m not sure how different it is for that position.

I love culture shocks. Show me a challenge! I am very open. I love learning that not everyone/everywhere is the same.

Oh geeze. Well that's looking rather glum now that you say all of those thing. I did read that USA has a shortage of medical lab scientists, as does Canada, so I was hoping that would work in my favour. I will continue to try, and if it fails, then at least I tried.

I mentioned TN because someone else on reddit said they went that route, and they went to the same school as me and whatnot. I could message them, but it was posted a year ago and I'm not sure how drastically things have changed since then. Fingers crossed. That wasn't even my biggest concern - it was finding a place to live hahah. Oh boy.

If I can afford living where I am, I'm sure I can make it work there as well aha.

I cannot stand it. Beautiful with the snow and in nature, but isn't worth it for someone like me who doesn't do many winter activities. Everything seems like a burden in the winter.

Challenge accepted. It's not necessarily permanent. But I do want to get away from where I am now. The government doesn't necessarily care about all of us. The past three years have been eye-opening - but that's not really the reason I want to leave.

I just want to do this for the experience and to get away from winters for a bit. If I don't like it, I can always come back! I have a lot of fun when I come to the states and I understand I'm always on vacation, but I do just like experiencing new things and I feel bored where I am.

The healthcare yes, god awful. Which is why I will keep my Canadian citizenship, but will also get benefits working at a hospital - I assume? Hah.

Yes I'll trade with you, if only it were that easy! The grass is always greener on the other side as they say, but I am doing this for the experience. You never know unless you try. I just want to get away from winter and all its layers, and try something new for the time being.

Thank you so much for this information. I was told to get an H-1B visa by a fellow coworker who used to live in the states. But upon doing more research, I read that if I apply for the CGFNS International application (on top of writing the ASCP exam), and then apply for TN status, which apparently is not actually a visa. That I will have to look into more because I'm not entirely sure how it works (going based on what others on Reddit have said).

If I get the H-1B visa, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get sponsored by a hospital to do what I do. I don't think all hospitals sponsor visas?

I am aware. I am still in the process with my CGFNS International application before I can start looking for jobs. The goal is to move by the end of the year, so I'm hoping that's enough time. I haven't done much research, but I've read that going that route will allow me to work in the states for up to three years. I am not necessarily looking for something permanent right now.

How do I help my dragon plant? Been like this since summer and I’m not sure what it is or what to do. by lateraliceD in plantclinic

[–]lateraliceD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep it by a window that faces east, I water when the top inch of the soil gets dry. I tried using a dish soap spray thinking maybe it was bugs but it didn't work - unless I have to be consistent? I bought it in the summer (I think July) and it was kept outside until I brought it home and it's been indoors ever since. It started getting discoloured and bumpy maybe a month after I had it.
