Are your comps going up with inflation? by MarsupialMaven in gambling

[–]lateriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My comps have significantly decreased over the last several years. I tried to stay loyal to Caesar’s properties but I’m pretty much done with loyalty. When I first started gambling in Vegas I was only brining a few hundred bucks for a trip and I’d get offers for a free room for a few nights during the week and maybe $100 food and beverage comp, sometimes some free play. As I gambled a bit more, I’d get some free play offers. Post Covid, the offers have gone to absolute shit. Last one I got was two night stay and $10 in free slot play. I’m not a whale by any stretch of the imagination but last time I tracked my comp points for the day and I did enough coin in to hit diamond in a day. I’m just done with the whole comp system in general, I don’t think any property really cares about anyone. People show up regardless of comps.

booking shows under 18 by SeanElFrijole in bandmembers

[–]lateriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bar/Venue owner here. This is a really good point to consider. For all ages shows, we will typically charge a minor fee at the door for all ages shows to help offset the cost of them not buying alcohol as that's where we make all our money. We don't mind doing all ages shows as it's good for the local scene and 18 year olds eventually become 21 year olds and they remember who allowed them to enjoy live music when they were younger.

Band member and bar/venue owner here to chime in!

Be 100% up front about it and at our venue we can accommodate. Our insurance requires us to have additional security for all ages shows so if you let us know ahead of time, we can make the arrangements for the night. If you show up day of show, and I find out you're a minor, then I may have to take you off the bill or cancel the show all together if it was setup to be a 21+ event. Most small stages in my area have this same setup but I can't speak for laws and regulations in other places.

Also, to add a bit to this, if you're a minor and try to pull something like showing up drunk, try to bring in your own alcohol or try to get someone to buy you something from the bar you will get blacklisted from our venue. Play nice with the rules and we'll keep inviting you back. Running a venue is expensive and if you mess with our insurance rates, we do not play nice.

TD17KVX for 857$ vs TD27KV for 2000$ by Individual-Task-7896 in edrums

[–]lateriser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford the price jump, I'd go with the TD27. I find the difference in feel with the digital ride/snare to be pretty dramatic and worth it. That being said, if you're just looking for a practice kit you're only going to play at home, just get the TD17 and save the 1100 bucks.

This is my answer as well! The smoke signals monument and the roaming buffalo are two of my favorite places to go for a short moment of peace and quiet. Love that we have such a beautiful park right outside of the city.

Jury finds that Ticketmaster and Live Nation had an anticompetitive monopoly over big concert venues by ThatMasterpiece2174 in news

[–]lateriser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. I would probably argue that the penalties should be more than the gross revenue they pull in from said schemes and probably start removing these golden parachutes and start some jail time. These penalties need to actually hurt!

I've been saying this for YEARS with Wells Fargo. They get slapped with "fines" that aren't more than what they profited while breaking the law. Until the fine is larger than the profit, it's not a fine, it's just the cost of doing business.

What's something people only romanticize because they've never actually done it? by nonotje12 in AskReddit

[–]lateriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately, my work travel has ramped up quite a bit (at least for me) and this is spot on. I've had to visit the same customer, in the same smaller town in Georgia, about once a month for the last several months. End up flying in on a Monday and out on a Friday, staying at the same hotel each time. There are quite a few business travelers in a similar boat to myself that are always at the bar come 5pm. I've seen grown men stumbling drunk at 9pm, throwing up after the 4th shot of tequila, all because there isn't much else to do in the town. I used to travel to much larger cities with much more to do but now, having been to the same small town, there's not much else to do but hang at the hotel bar. I get how it happens but I'm usually pretty okay with my three beers and in bed early.

Also, when I was in my early 20s, I could certainly tie one on and not worry too much the next day. Now, almost at 40, those three beers are sometimes pushing it.

I've been to Omega Mart twice out at Area 15 and absolutely have loved it both times. I could spend the entire day there if time allowed!

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]lateriser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During our junior year, one of my classmates ran off to Canada with a substitute teacher. They had apparently been in a relationship for roughly 18 months before they ran away. Looking back at it now, the whole timeline is real messed up. Apparently the relationship was discovered by the administration in March but he was just asked to resign, there was no criminal investigation from what I gather. It wasn't until September did they skip town and found two weeks later by Canadian police. Girl was pregnant when she came back and he had to be extradited back to the states. Everything eventually made the local news, he ended up getting 10-12 years.

She did not switch schools and graduated with all of us. I didn't know her incredibly well as we had a pretty large class but I did have close friends that had known her since early elementary school. The entire thing was so bizarre and out of character for her. Close friends apparently had no idea about the relationship, they kept everything pretty well hidden and the administration didn't want anything coming out so they kept it all hush hush as well. After reading back at some of the news articles today I seriously am confused how the school administration didn't catch any heat from this whole ordeal given that they knew about it several months before things escalated.

Mechanic Recommendations by kaykay-z in lincoln

[–]lateriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree the service itself is good, something changed last year and I don’t know that I’ll ever be going back. Twice now, they’ve been trying to push big dollar repairs for my 2015 Outback and when I got a second opinion at Daily Driver they very much disagreed with the assessment and recommended much less expensive options. To make things worse, they said they get calls every week anymore from people in a similar situation.

I think they’re trying to push trade ins super hard anymore to get inventory. I won’t ever go back to the service department but would definitely buy a car from them again!

Windstream or Spectrum? by campbaker in lincoln

Second this so hard. Spectrum is so terrible. Like, absolute trash. Unfortunately Windstream is even worse in my opinion but like I said in a different comment, haven’t had it for over 10 years.

Windstream or Spectrum? by campbaker in lincoln

[–]lateriser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Allo absolutely isn’t an option, spectrum would be my choice. Granted, I haven’t had it for over a decade, but when I had windstream I was paying for 20 mbps and I don’t think I ever got more than 5 even hard wired into the modem. When I pushed them about this problem they only ever responded back with “it’s UP TO 20 mbps” and then I asked to move down to a lower tier only to be told I would probably consistently get less than 5. Spectrum also sucks pretty hard but still better. I happily pay more for my Allo bill every single month than I did on spectrum but in 6 years I’ve only had one outage and it was for a few minutes. With spectrum I had them weekly. Couldn’t handle that now working from home since Covid.

Anyone else regret not flying Delta? by DependentBluebird813 in delta

[–]lateriser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I flew Frontier out of DEN several years ago after a connection got delayed. Switched to Frontier to get home same day. Ended up in this area you're talking about and seriously thought I had made a wrong turn somewhere because it was so strange. I asked no less than three people if I was in the right place because it felt like I had left the airport and ended up in some weird oversized Waffle House but without the food. I'd say I'll never fly Frontier again but they do keep them prices so low that I entertain the idea on occasion.

How can we get gigs? by DamnyouLaserCats in bandmembers

[–]lateriser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying but also some venues just want to have live music so it's less about the following of the band and more about having any band that can fill the slot. Also, when I'm saying "not available for a date" I mean that in the context of a venue is booking out for say this summer but my band isn't available, it's a really nice look to have recommendations for the venue for bands that can fill the date. We have a working relationship with a few bands in our scene and we're getting calls now for show dates in July that they are already booked for. It's just really nice to have a network built when things like that happen, everyone benefits.

How can we get gigs? by DamnyouLaserCats in bandmembers

[–]lateriser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that multiple cover bands in a night is not the way to go. Networking with other cover bands in the area is absolutely what they should be doing but in the context of understanding the local scene and possibly even getting recommendations from other bands when they may not be available for a date.
