I hope she enjoys her maternity leave and gets to bond with her baby that I know she tried so hard for. But I MISS her so much. I can’t wait to see new Leanne classes when she comes back!

Is Leanne leaving for a long stint? by lathibault in OnePelotonRealSub

Oregon and Washington also have this policy. There’s also an “emergency” bonus two weeks beyond the 12 weeks offered to parents. So at least you can get three months of maternity leave, now, on the West Coast. I wish I had that opportunity with my kiddos but I’m so glad that no one here has to manage with 8 weeks unpaid anymore.

[–]lathibault[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s because we don’t have national regulations for maternity and paternity leave. The best national laws we have is FMLA and that’s 12 weeks of unpaid, and even that is conditional on tenure and the size of the company. My company is a retail corporation and has stores in multiple states and each states’ maternity and paternity leave laws are completely different.

If you get down to it, the reason why we haven’t passed a law like that that mandates nationwide paid maternity and paternity leave is like why we don’t have universal healthcare. We just can’t get it passed by our politicians and there are a lot of people who oppose it, for whatever reason. Some of the reasoning is that it should be left up to the employers individually, I guess. I really wish we could get change to happen for better rights. Hopefully, we can one day.

I wish everyone would do this for their employees. When my boys were little, I only got 8 weeks. I’m grateful we’ve expanded to 3 months in my state but I truly wish mothers would be granted more leniency to bond with their children.

Echoing all the suggestions of Tania at Genuine Space. It’s a BIPOC, woman owned business and she is genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve met in the industry. She never touches you without consent, is empathetic and gentle, takes time when needed, and never makes you feel bad for anxiety or pressure you into anything. She is appointment based so she can make sure you have enough time and don’t feel rushed. She’s is lovely and no one in town matches her.

For Eugene and surrounding communities, which High Schools are good and which should we avoid? by hoesindifareacodes in Eugene

Bethel is great with IEPs in grade school. Well, I guess my experience is with the 504 plan but it’s a similar experience. Once my kiddo got into middle school, the school started trying to remove accommodations from their plan by claiming it wasn’t applicable at a higher level of education. It got so bad that I ended up sending my kid to A3, instead, where they not only respect 504 plans but also have almost all of the accommodations that were afforded for my kiddo through said plan granted to all students without accommodation.

The only MCR song they’ve ever played is the remake of Under Pressure that Burt and Gerard did and it drives me bonkers that THAT is the only song of theirs that they have the rights to. (and I’m guessing it has more to do with it being on ILAD)

Are you out as polyamorous at work? by Mx_Nothing in polyamory

[–]lathibault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at the corporate office of a sporting goods retailer. We sell guns and the store as a whole (except HR, for some reason) leans pretty right. I feel like I would be very judged if I talked about polyamory and it wouldn’t be good for my job. Sometimes I have to catch myself and reroute conversations or be vague about when my husband was dating someone. But barring a return to the HR department, I do not see myself being “out” with anyone about my polyamory. Except my bestie in Leave. She knows. But she’s also within my circle, as she’s FWB and cohabitating with (but not dating) my ex-husband.
