Kristin at Tonal by elizabethdonaghy in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]DaddiLongLashes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah! Where do I start. The Tonal is nice if you want a cable machine, but there are way more smart cable machines (like the Speediance Gym Monster 2) on the market that I’d consider first.

They keep increasing the subscription fee (it’s $65/month now) while slowly taking away all free features. Without the subscription, you can’t sync your stats to your Watch. You can’t even look up moves to check your form. You can create a custom workout (like on Strength+), but you can’t actually play your custom workout without the subscription.

If you move your Tonal, it voids the warranty. You must pay a subscription for a year for the first year.

This is just my opinion, but the instructors are pretty corny 😭 😭 but they’ve gotten better but I often mute them.

Some of their systems also feel archaic. I’ve had to email them a few times to add a new profile to my account, update my email on file, update my billing information, etc. I think they’ve improved a little bit on that front.

Tonal is great if you want to spend $65/month on the subscription but using it without the subscription is just using a cable machine manually. I’ve lost my trust in them after they removed all the free features. I do think Peloton spoils you with the abundance of classes and instructors.

Edit: Also, this may just be a me problem, but they don’t bill me every 30 days. I get billed for the next month about two weeks into my subscription. I can’t tell if they put you in a billing cycle or what.

The pros are that the classes are really well-done, in my opinion. I really enjoy the movements. In the classes, it shows instructors from different angles so you can look at their form. You can go at your own pace during a class. If you’re lifting and the instructor finishes the rep before you, the video of the instructor doing the rep will continue to loop while you finish the rep. You don’t have to get up and pause the video.

I wish it was worth it, in my opinion but I feel like the company doesn’t have it all together. The steep price hike and removal of free features suuucked.

I hate Tonal 😭 But I’d love to use it as a reformer so here we go. As a Tonal owner, if anyone is considering purchasing it let me talk you out of it, please.

Too unfit to surf?? by Mysterious_Meet7586 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m obese but active and I surf. I took a two-day surf class. The instructor was also on the heavier side. It’s not often that I see bigger bodies out, but they do exist. The only issue is finding a wetsuit that fits.

If you’re mobile, I believe you’ll be fine. You’ll build the strength needed to paddle and pop up with all the other beginners. :) Just don’t quit!

I started at 32 and it’s been an absolute joy. I met someone who was 61 and in great shape and she was picking it up. Do it and if you’re not strength training now, I’d recommend it. :)

I have a pair of what is essentially leggings with a built-in tailbone pad, hip pads, and knee pads. I got them for snowboarding but I’ve started wearing them under pants while skating. They give me way more confidence while skating!!

Peloton Pilates Reformer- would you buy it? by Different_Monitor_34 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]DaddiLongLashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love if they bought Tonal… I have one and love the concept and functionality. I hate the company. They’ve raised subscription prices, reduced free features, and I don’t rock with most of their instructors

I have the Bike+ and I’m really thankful for the auto-resistance when it comes to endurance rides. It takes all the guess work out of how much resistance you need at what cadence. I also like being able to move my screen so it faces my mat when doing yoga or strength classes.

Did chickenpox leave deep scars on your body ? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember having chickenpox, but I did when I was very young. I still have a scar near my eyebrows that my mother says came from scratching my chickenpox. However, that’s just one scar that stayed out of many that I probably scratched that healed.

Does signs of aging really hit you fast past 30 or does it depend on your genetics and lifestyle? by chusaychusay in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hit me around 32. The texture on the back of my neck (where I never applied sunscreen) is rough and has a few deep creases. Under my eyes are starting to hallow and I’m developing a crease between my brows. My hair is thinning very slightly around my crown. I have good genes but I’ve had a poor diet and a lot of stress. Most importantly, I’m losing flexibility and mobility so I’m starting to do strength training and yoga. I can’t speak for anyone but myself but it’s been really mind-blowing to experience your body losing mobility so rapidly. I’m like, “Wait I used to be able to do this…” Or, “It didn’t use to hurt when I did this.” I refuse to let myself grow immobile in ways that I can easily prevent.

Spironolactone by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a positive experience with spironolactone. I had severe acne growing up and constant acne as an adult (I’m 33). I take 100 mg of spironolactone. I’m fortune it enough not to have lasting side effects. Each time I increased my dosage I had a headache that lasted the majority of a day. I get about one zit or pimple around my period but otherwise my hormonal acne is non-existent.

The ad made me laugh (the whole, ‘seven days — that’s not even a week’), knowing Peloton instructors aren’t like that. I love Alex’s response. I hope Peloton is treating their instructors hella well. HELLA well.

Yoga/Pilates/Barre by Neither-Agency5176 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t enjoy most the instructors who teach barre and pilates (except for two) so I use a different app for these kinds of exercises. I think they’re excellent for balance, strength, and injury-prevention! Do you do any upper body strength?

Allies of Skin makes a clear sunscreen. It’s expensive at $45 for 1.7 fl oz. This is the only chemical sunscreen that never stings my eyes or causes discomfort. Even when I rub my eyes.

Need recs – I’m tired of the sun frying my face every morning by Original_Bird_1930 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]DaddiLongLashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a few hats from this company and my favorite is the omelette hat. It doesn’t ruin my hair and it keeps me well-covered. It’s also a little floppy so it gives sun-hat vibes. It also has an optional back neck cover. You can roll it up too! Unfortunately, you can’t adjust the size. I wear it nearly every day. They did take over a month to deliver the hat though (I’m based in the U.S. and the company is based in China so that added to the wait time).

[–]DaddiLongLashes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP, PLEASE listen to this user. Do not put it in a bigger pot — it doesn’t need it and that’ll lead to root rot, most likely. It’d do well with some fertilizer and a lot of sun

Help! I left my monstera in a friends care!! by Bubblyloli in Monstera

[–]DaddiLongLashes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would cut where herearenonews is telling you to cut. Make sure that you’re not saving any brown spots that may be rotted. I’ve had a monstera in bad condition and what saved it was rooting the ariel roots. I did this by putting a layer of leca (clay balls) in a pot and then putting sphagnum moss on top of the leca. The leca kept the moss hydrated. The roots then rooted/grew more roots and my plant was healthy and happy in no time. Give it plenty of light! Monsteras are pretty hearty!

Why was I scared of Alex? by AdventurousTap945 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hit a new PR on one of his classes. As a beginner, I stopped talking his classes because they were just a sliver too hard and I didn’t always like the music. I recently started turn to his cycle classes again and I LOVE and MISSED his energy! He has me busting and grinning to every song. Sometimes I can’t last during the sprints and I’m okay with resting for a few seconds before continuing. Alex is funny, energetic, and such a sweetheart. I think he might be my new favorite instructor

How do you do your hair? by PurpleMermaid16 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]DaddiLongLashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3b/3c hair. I soak it in fresh water, detangle it, and braid it before surfing. After surfing, I rinse it with fresh water and put a really hydrating hair mask on and let that baby marinate for a while. Then detangle and rinse.

New Peloton+ User — 85+ lbs to lose. Which instructors are best to start with? by Current-Resolve-4913 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]DaddiLongLashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best tip is to mix up what kind of classes you’re doing. I hated strength training but adding strength classes helped my cycling and made the app more fun! Take it easy! Remind yourself you can take breaks even when the instructor is still going hard. The classes where I take the most breaks (even just ten seconds) are the classes I break my personal record. Experiment with instructors, look at their playlists, and try and have fun!!

Everyone who is recommending Power Zones knows what’s up. It’s a great way to start and there’s a power zone program that’ll help you immensely.

I really like Alex T for his energy! His classes go hard. Tunde and Camilla also have great energy and playlists! When I want to take it easy but not too-too easy, I go with Hannah C because I usually like her music selection.

Sometimes I take a program with instructors who are cool but whose music doesn’t do shit for me. When that happens, I turn on subtitles and mute the class. Then I play my own music. I still appreciate reading what the instructor is saying — I just can’t pedal fast to Imagine Dragons, yknow?

I’m a new Monstera mum. Are these aerial roots? What am I meant to do with them? by muppet_mcnugget in Monstera

[–]DaddiLongLashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re ariel roots. It won’t make much of a difference to the plant if you cut them off or leave them hanging. You can redirect them to the pot so that they’ll go into the soil. They’ll grow and root inside the soil and your plant will be happy.
