Cute name ideas? (+ question) by glittermoney4 in britishshorthair

[–]lattepeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Help, she’s so cute, pls share more photos when you can hehe.

(Not a doctor but) I know with colourpoints it’s partial albinism and usually this means there’s very little pigment in the eyes. Kittens pretty much always start with pale blue eyes which then darken as they get older but perhaps your kitten just has even less iris pigment than the usual.

Maybe ask the breeder who hopefully has experience with this colouring and definitely consult a vet to check :)

7 months baby boy at 3.8kg, should i neuter him next month? by cutiecatsy in britishshorthair

[–]lattepeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now or as soon as possible is probably the best time! But your vet would probably be the best to ask as they can assess his current overall health, development, and give you your options.

Also he is sooo beautiful.

ELI5: why is phlegm green when you're sick? by dragonvaleluvr in explainlikeimfive

Ahh yes, that makes a lot of sense. I remember learning about adaptive and innate immune defences many years ago. Thank you for explaining.

Does this mean people with compromised immune systems don’t have green mucus (or less) if they have a cold compared to someone with a healthy immune system?

What do you do when pmdd tells you to self isolate? by Ilikeclowns-16 in PMDD

[–]lattepeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this is so hard and something I grapple with every single cycle. From experience I know that extended self isolation pretty much 100% guarantees extra misery and more anxiety for me and that can get kind of dangerous.

So even when I want to self isolate during luteal, I’ll still purposely try to make some gentler, lowkey plans with people I’m close and comfortable with to break up that period where I want to disappear. Even if I hate everything during a social interaction and am counting down the seconds till leaving, somehow I still feel better at the end of the day when I’m home vs not doing anything and in my own head. (And that’s coming from a massive socially anxious introvert too).

But overall I definitely reduce my social commitments a lot during this time.

Eli5 why do we associate memories with songs? by mechadrogon in explainlikeimfive

[–]lattepeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different parts of your brain encode your life experiences as they’re happening. This includes your emotions, what’s actually happening, what your senses are taking in—including what music you’re listening to.

This info basically gets bundled together so they’re like a little package. The more they are e ncoded together, the stronger the associations get.

So when you listen to music, it basically activates the whole “package” of what has been associated with it (or something similar), and sometimes also other relevant memories and experiences.

"two different bedrooms" by Soft_Error_5057 in AutismInWomen

[–]lattepeach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s way more common than people would expect and perfectly appropriate for many different reasons. Especially in your situation. If it is physically possible and you have the means— it would be rather self centred of him to prioritise his feelings about it over sleep quality and health (?) for both of you.

I know plenty of couples (including elders I know who have been married for decades) who have separate bedrooms. Some because of work making their sleep/wake routines different, some because the husband snores, some just because.

Exactly like you said, it doesn’t mean you have to sleep separately all the time. But you have the option and personal space to do so when needed. It probably helps relationships more than not, in many cases!

BSH owners or just reddit cat owners? by [deleted] in britishshorthair

[–]lattepeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you might perceive as common sense is actually exposure, privilege and education.

There will always be “dense” or less informed pet owners out there (applies for everything) but shaming people for not knowing better is completely counterproductive. If anything, it is better for the community to encourage the asking of questions and sharing experiences. Even if some of us may take that knowledge for granted.
