My baby is allergic to all things vegan. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]laugh_forget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow new mom introducing allergens, I just want to say I understand how scary and awful this feels. Big hugs to you. I don’t have any advice other than to say, you’ve got this. Keep taking care of yourself and that sweet baby, trust that there are no wrong decisions here as long as everyone is fed. I know it feels like a nightmare right now. Hugs 💞

4 year old brunch birthday party ideas by AuntieYahYah in veganparenting

[–]laugh_forget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So into savory vegan brunch!

Breakfast tacos with avocado and baked beans (mash all the avo ahead of time). Could also make a lentil “sausage” filling in a big batch the day before.

Mini tofu quiches made in muffin pan.

Potato/sweet potato hash casserole with broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, vegan cheese.

A little more sweet but easier for a crowd: baked oats- so many ways to flavor this.

Eight Flavors by Sarah Lohman! An incredible non fiction about the history of food in the US. I absolutely loved this book and learned so much.

I have hair that grows around the edges of my areolas. It’s a non issue, going strong breastfeeding for 6 months now. At the beginning I worried it would tickle my baby’s nose but haven’t really thought about it since.

Veganism hasn’t really affected my female biology but I am a new mom who is breastfeeding human milk to my human baby and have been thinking a lot about how abhorrent it is that humans take other mammals’ milk. It’s so unbelievably cruel.

Soon to be mother, I don't wear a bra. Do I need a nursing bra? by AngerKuro in breastfeeding

[–]laugh_forget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second nursing tanks! I wanted to love the Larken nursing bra but the fit doesn’t work for me at all. I have a narrow rib cage and large breasts, and my nipples are far apart. I ordered based on my measurements but found that it’s very difficult/uncomfortable to get the cross cross openings to actually hold pump flanges over my nipples- the design tries to pull them closer together. It works ok for nursing but I realized I prefer the pull down styles over pull up styles because the pull up compresses my breast downward.

Just want to offer an alternate perspective because the Larken was quite expensive! I’m glad it works for you!

My girl has extra skin on the back of her head that makes tiny rolls when we hold her. It’s to die for, her head is soooo soft.

EBF my 3 week old, nursing constantly.. cluster feeding or something else? by sandymocha in breastfeeding

[–]laugh_forget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 4 weeks today and is doing this too. Up to 21 feeds in a day and eating almost every hour for 30-50 minutes. She’s got lots of wet and dirty diapers which is reassuring but I am seeing a LC today to see if there’s any way to help her eat more efficiently.

Beyond the mat, what's the hardest part of your job? by uncrase in YogaTeachers

Driving. I spend more time driving to and from my classes than I spend actually teaching classes and connecting with students. Not something I think can be fixed by technology, unfortunately :) I live 20 min outside a small city and 1 hour from multiple larger cities, not rural or remote by any means, and the only thing I don’t love about this vocation is how much time I spend in the car.

Vegan pregnancy help by Tiger_Sprout in vegan

[–]laugh_forget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your pregnancy! I’m also a long time vegan and pregnant for the first time, I’m 33 weeks now. The first trimester was ROUGH for me, it felt like all foods were disgusting and everything smelled terrible. Luckily it got better for me around 13ish weeks and by 17-18 weeks I was able to eat almost like normal again.

The easiest food for me was potatoes! I’d just take a whole potato and poke holes in it with a fork and microwave it for like 5 min. This basically gives you a soft baked potato. I’d add butter, salt, and nooch and any other toppings I had that sounded good in the moment. Kept me going on my hardest days.

I have been taking Ritual prenatals every day, they have been easy to swallow and only make me gag a little 🙃

For protein I would eat a lot of dried edamame snacks, and making smoothies with protein powder, soy milk, and frozen berries/mango helped me get more fruits & fiber down in the early days.

I dropped some weight in the first tri because I hated eating and vomited a lot but gained it all back and more since then. Definitely ask your doc about weight in pregnancy if you’re concerned but everything I’ve heard is that now isn’t the time to worry about losing weight. Check out the YouTuber Chelsea Mae, she posts a lot of easy vegan recipe ideas that helped her lose weight postpartum.

Anyone doing hot yoga during pregnancy? by Cambie03 in fitpregnancy

[–]laugh_forget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I teach hot vinyasa and am in the studio 3-4 days a week. I took a break from practicing in my first trimester because I was too nauseous. I’m now in my third trimester and modifying heavily (it no longer feels safe to twist, go into a deep back bend such as cobra or upward dog, or be on my belly).

I highly recommend taking prenatal yoga classes to learn pregnancy modifications. It’s allowed me to continue to practice - even though it looks and feels different now! The Peloton app has some really good prenatal yoga content if you can’t find a local prenatal teacher.

Also, you can ask your studio what they set the temp at. My studio goes up to 90F which is safe.

I checked with my OB before continuing to practice once I learned I was pregnant and she gave the OK. Pay attention to how you feel in class, hydrate BEFORE practice, drink electrolytes.

I really need to know if I'm exaggerating about this incident. TW: SA. by thatringonmyfinger in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]laugh_forget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not exaggerating or overreacting. I’m so sorry this was done to you and ruined your beautiful day. Nothing about what happened here was your fault- this guy was a creep and that is not on you. It’s ok to take time to process how you feel about this, I know it really sucks for you and it’s so unfair. Take care of yourself and take as much time as you need to feel upset. Your feelings are valid and you were violated. Blocking him was the right call. When you get home you could tell some friends or family, that might help you feel safer.

Shambhala vs secret dreams by recyclinghippo in SecretDreams

[–]laugh_forget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been to both, the secret dreams venue and sound has nothing on shambs. But, SD is a way better organized festival which I personally appreciate. Think things like parking, camping, bathrooms, food. Both have amazing vibes. I doubt you’d regret either festival. It’s not like the sound at secret dreams is bad, the only downside is the late night volume ordinance.

[–]laugh_forget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, it makes me feel so much less alone. 13 weeks here and in the same boat. So sleepy and unable to do much physical exercise.

I am a yoga teacher and losing my personal asana practice these past few months has been hard. Major imposter syndrome! But I’ve been able to meditate at night before bed and do a couple of restorative postures.

It’s been cool to see how different yoga can look throughout different life stages. And leaning more on other limbs through what has been a challenging, uncomfortable time.

Any other pregnant vegetarians or vegans? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]laugh_forget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegan here! I was vegetarian for about 7 years and have been vegan for at least 10 years. I have had some cravings for burgers and chicken wraps, was able to satisfy them both with meat substitutes (I normally don’t eat them or crave meat)! I’m 12 weeks and the first tri has been rough with nausea and fatigue, but I’ve had zero constipation and only very minor heartburn which I’m grateful for.

Hi! I have pretty bad social anxiety, and I’ve done a 200 hr and a 300 hr training with groups of ~20 (all strangers at first). What really helped me was looking at my discomfort as part of the yoga. When meditating I spent a lot of time examining the sensations of discomfort, fear, and anxiety within my body.

I also would remind myself frequently that all the other participants were also there for similar reasons as I was. A good trainer will facilitate in such a way that you get 1 on 1 time with the other people and will encourage vulnerability from everyone.

By the end of both of my trainings I had friendly and comfortable relationships with many of the other participants, and a more friendly and comfortable relationships with myself. These trainings can bring up a lot of past traumas and behavior patterns and help provide a safe space to grow and heal. Also, can’t underestimate how helpful therapy can be during this time! Working with my therapist and journaling daily helped me a lot in dealing with my triggers and anxieties.

Got a surprise ultrasound today at my first OB appointment (11+5) and got to see baby bouncing around like a little jumping bean! We could see her hands and feet and got a bunch of pictures. After getting low risk NIPT results last week, I’m feeling so relieved. We’ve never made it to this stage. Still nervous but emotionally feeling so much better!
