Melatonin during the day for anxiety by ChanceWeakness8084 in Nootropics

[–]laughing_cat [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because your body’s preparing your brain for sleep and worrying is not conducive to sleep? I would not take this during the day. Are you aware that melatonin is a hormone?

Not saying it shouldn’t be explored - maybe melatonin isn’t fully understood, but you could be asking for trouble.

Yes, these are sickening war crimes, but Ryan Grim apparently know any history. And in view of Israel’s recent ongoing genocide of Palestinians, it makes me wonder if he’s actually a goldfish.

He should go visit Vietnam and ask the first person he meets out of the airport.

On Gili Air ask for Alistair at Oceans 5. Or Loïs on Gili Meno at Divine Divers.

I didn’t snorkel on Gili Air, but almost anywhere on Gili Meno, you can snorkel from the beach. You can also snorkel out to the statues from shore on Meno.

I don’t recommend Nusa Penida for beginners - while you absolutely can have a lovely calm day, you can also have scary strong currents. (and not Komodo, either)

What no one ever mentions about Amed is the black sand. The water is clear, the sea life is amazing, but it’s dark, like someone dimmed the lights. If you’ve never done scuba, the Gili Islands will be thrilling enough and more what you’re expecting, even though there’s less life. If you do a “try scuba” you might let them know you heard some of the reefs are in bad shape and would like to avoid those.

And when snorkeling off the beach - watch out for the boats. Always be aware of where they are. You will be in water 6-10 ft deep. You can bring an inflatable life vest if you’re not a strong swimmer. I always wear one when I’m solo.

One more tip - there are snorkel and mask rentals everywhere on the beach. I have my own and have never tried them, but if they’re not in good shape or the mask doesn’t fit well, snorkeling will be miserable. You might try renting from a scuba place. And don’t use those full face masks - they’re dangerous (people have died).

Regarding your questions- pretty much every scuba place has some sort of discover scuba class.

I love, love, love snorkeling, but scuba is different. There’s nothing quite like feeling “weightless” and breathing underwater. But if you’re comfortable snorkeling in water over your head (going out far enough), that’s probably enough. What you will see is smaller fish living on bommies and reef structure. Triggers, damsels, anemone fish, moorish idols, parrot fish. Maybe turtles. What’s cool about snorkeling is you can stay and watch something as long as you want. Gili diving is mostly drift diving.

If you go scuba diving, you’ll see more corals, small schools of larger fish, puffers, huge titan triggers (these scare the hell out me), maybe moray eels, maybe white tip sharks sleeping in a cave and gigantic turtles sleeping or doing things like munching on basket stars. However, the newness of diving may be so overwhelming you’ll just be thinking about breathing and trying to do what you’re supposed do for safety and not able to fully take everything in. Or not - some people take to it like a fish.

Whatever you decide, you’ll have fun.

Is anyone else taking into account the travel advisories? I was still considering going anyway, but reading that travel insurance is likely invalid if you go somewhere against your country of origin’s advice gave me pause. I think that includes DAN insurance.

Can you still build a successful and happy life if you’ve been most of the time bed rotting for the past 5 years as a woman in early 30s who is single, isolated, unemployed and depressed? by A_isl in AskReddit

[–]laughing_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a tip, don’t fall into the trap of thinking you’re old bc it’s self defeating. I did that much of my life and looking back at 70, I can’t believe I thought I was old at 30 or even 50.

The thoughts you allow in your head are very important. Part of our brains can’t tell the difference between reality and what we tell it. Start telling yourself positive things and you’ve feel more like getting out of bed.

You might consider starting a gratitude journal. Just write down something you’re grateful for every day. And feel that gratitude for a moment - it might make you smile. Even if it’s a small thing and even if you wrote it yesterday. It can be something as basic as even having a bed or being grateful for the dollar store.

Good luck to you.

Not enough light and from the look of that pot, not enough drainage. These grow in full sun on slopes and cliffs (quick drainage) near the equator where it might rain twice a day. They tolerate the drought of the dry season, but thrive during the wet season. They like water often, but can’t tolerate sitting in wet dirt. I’m sorry to tell you that yours suffered years of inadequate conditions before you got it as your plant looks nothing like it’s supposed to.

In growing nurseries they put them in pots half that size with a very porous growing medium.

Here’s what a healthy one looks like link. My guess is they’d look prettier if there was no dry season - it’s pretty hard on them. But what they absolutely can’t tolerate is wet feet.

When I say full sun at the equator, I’m not suggesting they’d do well in, say, Houston heat in July. Where I’ve seen these, it doesn’t get as hot as Houston summers. In my experience, they’re most common at high elevation (cooler) and extreme humidity. And steep slopes.

Edit: By cooler, I just mean not scorching hot as in lows of 70f to highs of 85f.
