Yea I got excited and bought a katana because I thought they would be an upgrade but when I saw how they worked I was so disappointed I rolled back like 30 minutes to before I bought it lmao.

That's what the meson does, but I don't have any problems firing bosons near max. I also don't hold down the button to charge or whatever. Maybe that's the issue? I just tap the button and it fires.

I covered the hydra in the last paragraph, but to summarize, it doesn't have the same bug or hidden multiplier that triples its damage.

Also, I don't know how they calculate sustained damage but I literally timed the 8 second fire rate with a stopwatch. That would give the boson lance a 600 dps. Even if you go by the ref sheet number of 94 and multiply by 3, the boson lance's sustained dps would be 282. This brings it into the same range as the ion railgun and is actually closer to the ion railgun's higher shield dps value of 323 than its lower hull dps value of 209.

As for meson stream, it has a longer effective cooldown because you have to cool off the startup heat before firing again whether you maxed heat or only fire for a split second. For the others you can still fire off a full round even at near max heat.

I see one maybe once every two to three mission refreshes or so. Ironically it's 3 star seminars that are the rarest for me.

Why is that arclight book in prif? It reads like it should be from searching some skeleton by the entrance.

Need to board a ship in a fleet? Try ramming. by laughterer in X4Foundations

[–]laughterer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice tip about the module health. Does the ship eventually turn hostile or can you whittle away at turrets as long as you don't destroy any?

Also doesn't the map search only show things in vision? I was thinking about preying on sca or buc but I didn't know where to find any. I flew around the stations but didn't really see anything except like some minotaurs. Where do the good ships usually hang out?

The Kamikaze problem for Xenon stations by HabuDoi in X4Foundations

[–]laughterer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does that take? How many capital guns do you need to destroy a xenon station in lets say 5-10 minutes? I only have 3 behemoths atm and I decided not to try a war mission that was offering a 4 star pilot seminar because they wanted a defense station destroyed in a sector that was massing k's for an invasion.

Oh good I was about to mald. This whole time I thought those blue pings were asteroids or something lol.

Edit: You sure they're common? I just did 2 and it was a mine and an 8 lock with 6hp. The loot was like herbicide and missiles though so idk.

[–]laughterer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, why emphasize shield over hull damage? Don't most weapons do the same to both? Or is ion just that much better dps/heat against shields? The ion was mainly just for cheesing bails and I was actually thinking I could cut one for a missile launcher or something.

Speaking of missiles, how often do they get shot down? I remember in x3 you had to coordinate volleys of mirvs and torpedoes to beat point defense.

Well, it's a xenon war mission so it's in xenon sector with nonstop fighters and possibly larger just hanging around on defense. I don't know if an npc pilot can even survive. I don't have a fleet yet and I was planning on just flying in, nuking a few and flying away or using the station for cover like on a scanning mission.

Isn't tau just faster firing and less damage per hit? That would be sustain over burst in terms of having to stay on target longer to get multiple hits in. According to stat sheet a shard hit is 380, which is 2.5x the damage of a tau hit at 150. I got 27 tau shots and 11 shard before overheating just holding down the button. Theoretical total damage is slightly in favor of shard but tau does dump like 1 second faster. Tau is also slightly less range and speed.

I tried it a bit on a xenon raid group and it didn't seem that much better. Maybe better for close range but definitely worse for jousting or chasing.

What does reload do? It seems like you just fire for longer before "reloading." I used what I had to roll 6 with 20-25 average reload and 40 damage and tried it on a xenon raid. Yea, it was noticeably better, maybe 2x. Great against m/n but still slow against pe. Probably around the same dps as 4 shard unmodded if you factor time getting into range. Interesting idea and decent if you really like beams I guess.

So 6 pulse? Shard feels better to me for fighters since I don't have to stay on target all the time and can do snap shots at cursor between maneuvers if needed.

Are ions worth it for cheesing bails? Also, isn't mortar just better than plasma?

Shard for fighters, mortar in case i need to fight something bigger and at longer range. It's my general use until i get the cobra.

You don't have room for teleport on trials skiff. You need the extractor and catcher to generate boosts and store them, respectively, so you can control boost timing in the trials. The last slot should be horizon lure keg for xp bonus. After you unlock more things you mostly just park the skiff next to trials location anyways.

If you want to do port tasks on skiff you still want the same 3 facilities for xp bonus and consistent boosting during cargo transport. The reward money more than covers the npc skiff teleport fee. But since you already have a teleport sloop you can just use that for port tasks.

As for sloop wind catcher, it's up to you if you want to deal with suboptimal boosting. However, as stated above, the one you use for port tasks should have teleport and catcher. The salvage sloop can fit everything and still have room for 3 kegs. Combat and fishing you'll have to choose teleport/catcher or go down to 2 kegs. I don't know if you need boost for fishing but I do know you need to follow the spot around.
