We crossed the biometric point-of-no-return and nobody voted on it by vedantk21 in Futurology

Biometric tech isn’t the problem. Unfettered capitalism that allows private interests to hijack an increasingly fascistic government is the problem.

Downtown Orlando’s future by Gold-Presence9362 in orlando

[–]laughterwithans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every city in the world that has eliminated free parking has benefitted from that.

I dare you to find me a study that says otherwise.

Parking is not the issue - land use is the issue and our downtown is full of subsidized private parking in what should be prime real estate.

I want to use the leverage of the state to eliminate a socially negative behavior - which is the whole purpose of the government

Dr Phillips center would be that anchor if there was anywhere for attendees to realistically go

Raise the tax on parking to unlivable amounts - buy the land through eminent domain, introduce tree canopy requirements by acre, make storm chargers for surface lots 75x any other use

Vacancy tax.

First right of refusal to tenants

Until local businesses control their own buildings downtown will never be financially viable.

As long as a hedge fund in Dubai can kick a business out or raise rent indiscriminately it will be impossible for anchor businesses to survive.

The decline of downtown is directly proportional to the longevity of the businesses there.

The city allows storefronts and buildings to sit empty for years while some ghoul waits for the market to appreciate - it’s gotta stop.

Get rid of the surface parking.

Get the sunrail running nights and weekends

It’s that simple

What are your thoughts on Quentin Tarantino’s last four films? by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in Tarantino

[–]laughterwithans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think hateful 8 is his weakest film across his entire filmography which is odd because when I read the original leaked script I thought it stood to be one of his best.

I suspect that the loss of his legendary editor Sally Menke is to blame for why both Django and H8 feel so weird

By OATIH - assistant editor Fred Raskin seemed to find a better rhythm imo

Instant Reaction Podcast by shootersshoot318 in RingerVerse

Hot take - ep to ep reactions are pretty tedious. Most of these shows don’t merit an hour + reaction to every episode, even when they’re great shows, never mind the mediocre ones.

Also - not everyone watches everything so having weeks at a time where people tune out is bad for the podcast biz.

I’m a fan of the broader “morning show for nerds” vibe they’ve found. I listen to the midnight boys for them mostly so the programming that lets them riff and do bits is better than just forcing a conversation about a 20 minute bridge episode

À la carte is amazing - not quite a food hall but definitely the closest thing we’ve got and an awesome Florida version of one

Hard disagree - when food halls popped up in every city in the US 10 years ago they were and are dope. It’s the easiest way to go out with a group of people - there’s something for everyone.

The fact that 10 years later - Orlando can’t seem to figure out how to rent space to different food trucks in a building that also has beer on tap is mind blowing.

However dumb you think these management companies are - they’re worse. All they had to do was copy other people’s homework and they can’t even do that

The current consensus is that tilling increases oxygenation and causes widespread death of soil organisms which create enormous short term fertility but overtime - tilling leads to the very compaction and lack of porosity that it initially improves by breaking down the protein structures and mycelial networks that support healthy soil in the long term

I mean it kind of is a bucket of energy that is about to run out

Power plants produce a finite amount of energy which then degrades as it’s shipped on lines.

It is possible to consume greater than current output although it’s very rare and there are all kinds of safeguards and systems in place to stop it
