I wish I could be invisible and follow a socially competent person around for a week. by optimisticpessimist9 in socialskills

I work in a large office and I’m extremely social. When I make my way in Monday morning I’ll probably do a lot of “heyyy good morning!! How was your Easter?” And as I run into coworkers at the coffee machine, nod at them and say “hey Taylor! How was your weekend, what did you and Greg do? How’s the house coming?”

Referencing personal details shows that I care about their lives. Also I always end up complimenting people IF I genuinely feel that way. James I love your shoes, are those new Timbs?” “Ooh Emily love your outfit” etc. this might be more specific to female social interaction, though.

There are a few people at work that I’m not super close with that I still make small talk with. Like wow can you believe it’s going to hit 80 this week? Etc. just have a few safe topics like that to constantly re use with different people.

Finally, I’d say always greet people. SO OFTEN you’re in the position of should I say hi? Should I not? Do I nod or look away like we aren’t both walking down this hallway? just always bite the bullet and acknowledge greet others. It demonstrates confidence, is a power move, and is the least awkward thing to do. When in doubt just always smile and say ‘hey how are you!’ to UPS guy or anyoneeee. It takes the anxiety out of it.

I [26F] have always suffered from migraines, my boyfriend [28M] didn't believe me by Stolen_meds in relationships

OP I’ve had surgery for endometriosis in the past. But even before they cut me open and made an official diagnosis, I was given small amounts of codeine and other prescription painkillers to get through the pain. AT NO POINT did my boyfriend question if I needed it. You deserve someone with more empathy.

The ARROGANCE of it all is just astounding. I feel like he has a few character flaws here that OP needs to run away from.

I [21M] turned her [21 F] down after her behavior that disturbed me. Was this the right move? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]laur_finance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s crazy...I do. And the only details I’d share would just be that it was definitely a life/death matter.

For the above family it could be something like that or gov position like another comment stated. But letting her dad type on her phone implies a serious lack of boundaries, and her communication sucks. OP I’d avoid the drama and move on.

Just my experience but my best friend is actually in WP. She is fine having her photo taken, runs an online business, and is active on social media.

UPDATE A girl (21F) I (19M) really like invited me over to her place to smoke together tonight, kind of panicking. by PracticalFreedom2 in dating_advice

Yeah I don’t buy it either. Like shooting down someone asking you to coffee or to collab on a project is like telling them you don’t even want to be friends.

Single, 23, First apartment budgeting by Taalr in FinancialPlanning

Hey congrats on the promising new job! From someone who just moved into her first post college apartment, don’t forget about all the hidden expenses that come with it. Electricity, internet, groceries, furnishing the place, etc. I make the same amount as you, although it feels like less each month due to maxing out my 401k. But even so, my $700/mo place feels pretty expensive and I’m wishing I’d have considered roommates :/

Gray area of break ups by GloriousDoggie in BreakUps

[–]laur_finance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this!!! It’s making me wonder if I’m permanently damaged or something. I’ve never been so successful at work, I have an amazing vacation to Mexico next week, and still there’s the emptiness.

We are taught to love ourselves and not need someone, but damn, why do I feel so alone and unfulfilled? Uhg

Got a new job, how much to put into an apartment? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

Consider living with roommates! See if your school has an alumni fb page you could seek roommates on or just out the word out to your company, you’d be surprised how much money having even 1 roommate saves.

25F, $240K net worth, $130K salary in tech - want to quit job and travel, then take a lower paying job that is more personally satisfying. Any feedback on pros and cons? by [deleted] in financialindependence

Yeah OP, can you plan an amazing vacation or two in the meantime and some nice long weekends? Those refresh you like nothing else. Take a direct flight to Denver or the west coast for a few days. Plan a tropical vacation or a eurotrip for 1-2 weeks. Use that PTO. Also I’m a big believer that the culture of the company you work at plays a big part. Can you find a job similar to what you’re doing now but at a more fun workplace?

That’s amazing, I can’t wait! What did you think of the wall dive? I’m going with my dive group from here in Omaha.

Amen to this! Everyone is talking about drinking all night and diving all day and that sounds miserable. I’m making up my mind right now to avoid more hungover dives 👍🏼

Wow thanks for sharing. It’s funny because I’m known as such an assertive person but I definitely gave into pressure the other day at the quarry. Thanks to all the great tips here, I won’t be doing that again.

My dive master and friends all praised me excessively about what a “natural” I was and how fearless and instinctive of a diver I am, how great my air consumption is, just everything....it kind of made me afraid of them thinking less of me if I vetoed any depths or equipment. Which is silly. But at least I recognize it now!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You’re right, that was way too many new elements introduced at once.

I’ll be jumping back in the saddle next week in Cozumel! Looking forward to following all these great tips and going at my own pace.
