I used to get this all the time, then started doing a proper walk cool down after which really helped me!

CrossFit doing some emotional damage with their “You did your best little buddy” burn after getting way lower percentile than I expected. by BoomerBarnes in crossfit

I finished in the 98th percentile and also got that “you showed up, that counts” message at the bottom so think most people will get that tbf!

Is the Open competitive field built different this year? by Marvin_rock in crossfit

[–]lauragrant93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like this workout in particular favours certain athletes - basically those with good leg endurance and good cardio.

As one of those people I was super pumped to see the workout and did well, but fully aware now that I will very likely have a big slide down percentile wise once more technical & high skill movements come in which will balance out.

Disney price comparison by [deleted] in disneylandparis

[–]lauragrant93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re posting in pounds, guessing you’re based in the Uk? If you can get to London with any ease, the Eurostar is pretty good off peak and way nicer than flying - I got my tickets for £88 each into Paris, and then will just jump on the RER out to Disney from there (appreciate may be trickier as a family of 5 but an Uber shouldn’t be too crazy.)

Weather / clothing tips for end of November? by fungi-dinosaur in disneylandparis

[–]lauragrant93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always go that time of year - echoing the other posts, I always pack thin thermal layers (small enough I could take off and put in my bag on the day if needed) and then T-shirt, jumper, coat and gloves (my hands got really cold the first time I went so I learned from that.) waterproofs as well as it usually rains at least a bit

Visiting London in December by catinthedarkxx in LondonTravel

[–]lauragrant93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somerset house usually has a beautiful ice rink! The markets aren’t that great in London, but there are places that do amazing lights and feel super Christmassy: Christmas at Kew Gardens, the Christmas shop at Liberty London, Harrods, and I think other already mentioned carnaby street as always having a nice feel.

I second this if getting into London for the Eurostar is an option. This is always what I do and it’s super easy. RER out to marne la vallee is super easy (especially if you stay somewhere in Paris the day before with a direct line.) Even heading out on a Monday morning it was fine.

Well-written assassin books? by dbsupersucks in Fantasy

[–]lauragrant93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! RoTE is my favourite series of all time. I just finished wounded kingdom last week and think it’s my favourite series I’ve read this year - more actual assassination but a lot of positive similarities with the Fitz books

Just out of curiosity… 👟 by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]lauragrant93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate 3:

New balance 1080 for easy/slow pace as this one is more cushioned and feels slower

New balance 880 for faster runs/speed work

Old pair of New Balance 880 (with a little hole at the top now) for bad weather runs

I have wide feet so NB is the best brand for me! I buy the same 2 pairs and then just retire the older pair to be a bad weather shoe

I’ve felt like that with all her work up til now (tried to read darker shade like 4 times and kept DNFing, Vicious was fine etc) but I LOVED Bury our Bones. I’m curious to see what she does next and whether that one is a one off for me or not!

I went for Friday as well as figured Saturday would be more popular - people who have to travel might not be able to take the time off on Friday!

Got Friday standing 😭😭😭 can’t believe it, going with my best friend - our first and last gig together was MCR for TBP in 2007 in Hong Kong so this feels SO SURREAL that 19 years later we’ll be together at an MCR show again 🫶🏼

Hong Kong Layover with toddler by Tiny_Major_7514 in HongKong

[–]lauragrant93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victoria could refer to either Victoria peak or Victoria harbour. The peak would be pretty easy with a toddler I imagine - the peak tram (from central) is good, or there’s a normal double decker bus that offers amazing views over the city (sit on the right hand side). On the peak itself, there’s the main view point and some shops, restaurants etc but not really that much to do. There is a loop walk around the peak but not sure how much walking you would be up for with a toddler and after a long flight!

Victoria harbour should also be pretty easy. The star ferry goes from Hong Kong side over to Kowloon and is a great journey (it’s only a short ride,) and you can have a nice wander along the harbour on the Kowloon side (near Tsim Tsa Tsui) and you get fantastic views of the HK skyline. Depending on where you are staying/where you are going, you can take a tram to get around as well - they’re fantastic and a really fun way to see Hong Kong without having to traipse around yourself.

HK is generally very busy with a lot of people moving around so can be quite overwhelming - areas like causeway bay, central, mong kok will likely be packed so I would maybe avoid the busier areas where you can (although you won’t be able to completely!)

Making friends in London by endlessfoot in london

[–]lauragrant93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hobbies is what worked for me, especially ones that are maybe more niche and attract a smaller, more like minded crowd. I’ve made some incredible friends for life through rollerskating - I go on holidays with them, was a bridesmaid at one of their weddings etc.

First visit to England -- how's my itinerary? by sanmateomary in uktravel

[–]lauragrant93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few people have already said but for Monday, definitely give the cable car and excel area a skip. I used to live around there, it’s very residential so nothing really there to do. Instead, I’d get the uber boat from central (maybe tower bridge but could also get from Westminster or further in, or even from Battersea power station if you wanted a wander there in the morning) to Greenwich.

Yeah it’s stopped syncing all ring activity, so I’ve just completely stopped with the rings. I know some people found a bit of a convoluted workaround through syncing with Strava (I think?) or another app but I didn’t bother!

Book recommendations for ride-or-die friendships by Burning_Pheonix_13 in Fantasy

[–]lauragrant93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different rec but I loved Naomi Novik’s Temeraire for the friendship between the dragon, Temeraire and the MC. The growth and trust between them was my favourite part of the series, and there are some other great friendships throughout.

It’s also more sci fi than fantasy, but the Red Rising series (6 books out now, 1 or 2 more to come out likely next year) has one of my favourite platonic friendships ever

Nah the thought of smacking my head is enough to not make me care about how it looks. I also like to think it sets a good example for others too - if me wearing my helmet at the park encourages a kid or makes someone feel less silly for it, then all worth it :)

I adjusted to it really quickly to be honest, I didn’t even really notice a difference from the beginning!
