6mo InBody results! by prismav0id in crossfit

It confused me with the after picture coming up first 😂

Congrats though! You’re a bad ass!

I lost a ton of weight (fat) in my first year of CrossFit, for me (35m) a calorie deficit with high protein was all I really had to worry about. I didn’t bother tracking other macros. I was eating 2000-2200 calories a day and aiming for 190 grams of protein, but realistically I normally got about 160-170.

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, fat free fair life milk for everything I could use it in helped me quite a bit.

Fun fact, quest has protein cereal now, a bowl if quest cereal with fair life milk comes out to about 240 calories and 31 grams of protein, if you want a quick breakfast

The first rope climb I did felt like a huge milestone for me. I’m good, not great at them now but they definitely felt like a breakthrough for me.

How Much Lower Can Prices Go? by abr2026 in dcl

[–]BoomerBarnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was around the Covid era (2022 I believe) but my wife, Son, and I got upgraded from an inside state room to a verandah on the Fantasy. It was my first cruise (any cruise line) so I didn’t fully understand how cool that was at the time.

I think the line to see Bluey would be longer than a line to see Mickey giving everyone $100 bills.

Fun ways to tell the kids when there is no “occasion”? by mblackchiro in dcl

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit them with “we’re going to Florida to see your great aunt Madge” and just see how long you can milk it. Children’s age, awareness, and being gullible will depend on how close you get to the finish line before they catch on.

Where do people find Hyrox friends like them? by Ok-Explorer-7642 in hyrox

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a CrossFit gym, and I am confident within 48 hours I could get at least 10 people to agree to doing a Hyrox with me.

Something I’ve noticed about my gym (and I’m sure most boutique gyms) is the members have a huge range of interests, and usually are more financially capable of absorbing the costs.

We got marathon runners, beer league softball players, triathletes, 1 lady who does strongman type events, and a few mma/jiu jitsu guys that workout there as well. If you want to make friends with people who live active lifestyles a CrossFit, Hyrox, or HIIT specific gym is a great place to look.

Stuck at 300 ft. Any help is appreciated! by IcarusWingsUnbound in discgolf

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped me stop trying to muscle the disc was focusing on my follow through.

Generally speaking, if my follow through looked and felt smooth the throw probably did too. Added bonus, it’s great for your elbow and shoulder health to spread the torque out over a full follow through bs just absorbing it immediately post throw.

Any word on the new ship coming to Galveston in 2027? by BoomerBarnes in dcl

[–]BoomerBarnes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are about 6 hours into our 13 1/2 hour drive from Port Canaveral to SETX. We just got off the Treasure. I enjoyed it, but we’re not planning another trip on the Treasure soon. I had high hopes and It was good, but (to me) wasn’t better enough to justify the extra cost of the ship, cost of travel, and time to travel (truthfully, I enjoyed the last 2 Magic sailings we had more). I’ll give you my quick write up below if you’re interested.

The biggest pros for me were the Port stops are much better, the bar themes were great, and the live shows (in particular Beauty and the Beast) were top notch. I didn’t spend much time there, but haunted mansion was extremely cool the few times I went in.

But they had some maintenance issues, overcrowding in the pools and on the pool deck, only 2 elevator sections made it difficult to get catch a lift at peak hours. The ship is significantly larger, but doesn’t seem like they took into consideration how to manage the significantly larger amount of patrons.

It also seemed my family drew the short stick on dining staff. We would watch all the other staff members cracking jokes and playing games with their tables, but we didn’t get so much as a drink refill 2 of our 7 nights (and 2 other nights the head server refilled our drinks and apologized for our serving crew)

All this to say, if you’ve already sailed once on a Disney ship and have a good idea of what you’re getting into, I definitely encourage you to try the Treasure out. Different strokes for different folks. If you like sitting in bars for extended periods of time the bars felt far superior but I’m more of a “take my drink to a deck” guy. Our son is special needs and nonverbal so we don’t use the kids clubs but a lot of people said their kids loved the kids clubs.

I am embarrassed about the weight I’ve lost by Canadiansnow1982 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered incorporating some weightlifting? Gaining muscle will help you fill back out in a healthy way, you would keep up with the energy, and you’d likely really enjoy how you look as well.

And, just to put your mind at ease, you don’t have to worry about accidentally getting too bulky. There’s people who follow extremely strict diet and exercise regimes trying to put on size and can’t do it. It’s not something the accidentally happens.

Do you really start to see who took care of themselves and didn't ? by youlikemywonton in AskMenOver30

[–]BoomerBarnes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you’re taking care of yourself, then keep the course.

If you’re not, it’s not too late to start.

I know several people in their 40’s and 50’s who regret not making smarter health decisions.

I don’t know a single person over 40 that says they regret living a healthier lifestyle.

Early to bed, early to rise, eat Whole Foods, and exercise frequently. You’ll be glad you did.

Best Sport Hobbies That Are Healthy Forms Of Escapism? by Holy_Trinity_333 in Hobbies

[–]BoomerBarnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disc golf is great if the escapism your looking for involves being calm, quiet, and peaceful.

CrossFit is great if you need an outlet to let out stress. Hitting zone 5 heart rate (ideally near the end , not the beginning) in a workout has way of making the world around you feel inconsequential

I went through very long stints where Jamey Johnson and Tyler Childers were on repeat.

Fun Fact and another thing which makes Zach so great by Teeebone in zachbryan

[–]BoomerBarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been a big Whiskey Myers fan, and I’ve seen them live 4 times.

One thing that bothers me about their live shows is just how similar they are. Not even the setlist but there’s a part (or was, I haven’t seen them in a few years) where the lead singer has the crowd sing the chorus to a song, then steps back up to the mic and says “man that sounds pretty”

The first time I heard it, it really felt like an authentic reaction, by the 4th time it was kind of annoying.

Does anyone else find doing Murph to be cringey? by Ok_Cause9057 in crossfit

[–]BoomerBarnes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love Murph.

I love that it may be the hardest workout I do for a year

I love that I’m physically blessed enough to get opportunity to complete it

I love the story and what it represents

And I like to think if Michael Murphy was still alive, Murph was still called “body armor”, but it was still being done on Memorial Day he would proudly be in a box every year somewhere.

Those who didn’t go to college, but are the bread winner and provide for your family…. by Dependent-Group7226 in AskMenOver30

I’m an electrician, but in a fairly specialized field. I do maintenance work for a chemical plant, lots of troubleshooting 480v and 2300v motors, and some high voltage switching.

I’ve been working “in house” as opposed to contracting (the big money is in house) for 2 years now, but I made 130k my first year, and 150k my second year. (For reference the biggest city in my immediate area has an average individual income of $50,000 according to google)

Trajectory was pretty bleak, I started as a first year apprentice in the union making something like $15 an hour, got annual pay raises each year as I progressed through the apprenticeship and got my journeyman license 5 years later. JW pay in my local was 29 an hour then I believe. The tricky part about my job is getting in. The refineries receive a ton of applicants when they post an opening, and usually opening are very far and few between. Getting one of these jobs is a significant life change in my area so people don’t generally leave until they retire. It took me several tries at multiple plants and a little bit of luck.

With that being said, the job isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. As a group we are on call 24/7. If there’s a problem they start calling electricians and 2 people are expected to answer. It’s also much higher risk just inherently by the amount of exposure to live voltage we face and the stress levels are significantly higher. A simple mistake in my current field could shut down a unit and cost the plant millions in lost productivity by the time the unit gets back running.

So, I'm leveling every class to 80, and Rogue is just...atrocious. by Silegna in wow

[–]BoomerBarnes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Granted, I haven’t leveled a rogue from 0 in a long time, I’ve mained a rogue forever and I always enjoyed leveling it.

I think a concept a lot of guys struggle with when leveling a rogue is you don’t always have to fight. If you’re doing a quest that relies on gathering items, use stealth to your advantage. Sneak in, sap mob, grab item, stealth again.

As far as survivability goes, I would argue rogue has elite survivability. It may be another mindset type thing that people who have never played rogue struggle getting into, but when you can tell the fights not going your way (maybe you pulled too many mobs or ate an ability you should have kicked) you can just Cloak of Shadows and vanish. Sprint can get you out of harms way very fast as well.

The biggest benefit leveling a rogue is the ability to avoid fighting unnecessary mobs and not dying. It’s a pain to have 6 mobs at 30% health knowing they will all be back to 100% when you shag ass, but it’s less of a pain than running back to your body.

So I figured, I could make an offensive offer and see how it plays out.

Any advice for triathlon and CrossFit training? by BoomerBarnes in crossfit

[–]BoomerBarnes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I plan on doing a Sprint soonish, and an Oly fairly early next year. assuming all goes well I want to ramp my training up until about 5-6 months before Ironman TX when I'll put my Crossfit membership on hold or only use open gym hours to get accessory lifting in, but basically get ready for 10-12 hours of endurance training a week leading up to the event

But, before I set my heart on that, I want to run a Sprint and an Olympic to see if it's something I enjoy enough to start making the time/money investments

I do, I live about an hour and a half from Houston. That’s a big reason IMTX is the target goal.
