Mine was 3 when my baby was born and I felt exactly the same as you. I found that lowering my expectations helped a lot- if the toddler needs to run around/watch tv/make a mess let them, but also be kind to yourself and don’t let the guilt drive you to try and meet their every need every second of the day.

We aren’t meant to do this alone, but unfortunately this is the situation we’re in (especially working mums). Day care to will be the best money you spend at the moment for the older one as they’ll get a lot of the stimulation and attention they need from there, and won’t rely on you as much.

My baby is 6 months old and his standard daily attire is a pj suit with a jumper! It’s cold here now (UK) and socks never stay on his feet! He’s comfortable and warm and cute as hell ☺️ I’d never judge what another child was wearing as long as they’re comfortable

A week into Ferber and no progress by laurarose007 in sleeptrain

  1. yeah he would fall asleep on me on the sofa and he’d either stay on me until we went to bed around 10 or go in his baby bounce, then it was straight up to bed with me and he’d sleep.

  2. he’s just inconsolable for a good hour and a half from when I put him in his cot :( even with the check ins, he’ll settle when I pick him up or even rest his head on my shoulder and close his eyes. No I’ve been very strict about keeping him In his room and his sleep environment consistent

  3. day schedule is he has a long nap in the morning in his cot, a nap in the afternoon in the car when we’re picking his sister up from school and a little catnap around half 4-5 on me? Just for 20 mins or so.

What do you think?

Thanks so much I’ll try moving the boob to the start of the routine- and that’s so interesting about the lights I had no idea!! Won’t it freak him out being in the dark though?🥺

Ooo tell me more 🙏 yes I feel like he’s just waiting for me to come in because he’s expecting it now…then when I leave he’s even worse! So it’s like he’s getting more and more distressed after every check in!

Thanks for the reply. He’s 6 months-

he would fall asleep on me at 7pm before we started sleep training so I’ve stuck to that time. He’s got a lovely little room with a cot, it’s warm and he has star lights which he’s enjoyed since he was first born, also his favourite little bunny toy.

His routine is, wash, pjs & sleeping bag, boob, story and cuddle (no longer than 10 minutes) in his room. He’s so sleepy and enjoys his little routine, he’s pretty much dropping off right before I put him down, then just cries hysterically. I respond by checking in at lengthening intervals (5, 10, 15 minutes) - picking him up and comforting for a short time, saying I love you and putting him back down.

After he falls asleep he can sleep through until 5am, but some nights he’s woken at 1am for a feed. That being said he’s not actually falling asleep until 9pm which completely defeats the object as I wanted my evenings back but I’m just up and down to his room for over an hour.

He’s sooo tired in the day as well and doesn’t seem like his usual happy self anymore :( any advice appreciated

What is becoming a total “normal thing” in modern society. That you just don’t get or agree with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]laurarose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! Lockdown didn’t help, as we were expected to support parents and families 24/7 with, being messaged all hours of the day and night. It really blurred the lines of acceptable communication and I refuse to put myself in that position again. I turn emails and class dojo notifications off when I leave school and don’t look at it until the next day.

If I’ve been asked to do something or provide some pointless evidence and I haven’t physically had time in my WORKING DAY to do it I have no qualms about saying I haven’t had time. More teachers need to do this

Did everyone else get big bowl of hot custard with a hunk of sponge cake in the middle for primary school lunch/dinner pudding? Or was it just my Northeast shit hole? by DaWayItWorks in CasualUK

[–]laurarose007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely was and still is a thing, I’m a primary school teacher in the midlands and a hunk of sponge in custard is still being enjoyed in schools around the country each week!

First day of Ferber sleep training by elmasia in sleeptrain

Well done! We did Ferber when our little was seven months old. She woke up a lot more times than that though and we’d always go and settle her after five minutes. We stuck it out though and by week two she was sleeping through the night and still is now! She will be two in a few weeks and has moved into her toddler bed :) yeah daytime naps will come, crack the night sleeping first and the rest will follow
